Valenti

Submitted by winterblue75 on

What is this guys deal? Most years, weeks, whatever he complains about UM fans when we thump our chests, especially when it comes to MSU week. Now today he is ripping on UM fans because we are being cautiously optimistic about our team and not thumping our chests when it comes to MSU week. This guy is just not happy unless he is complaining and ripping on UM fans for something. Now Mike "in the know" Valenti is saying he doesn't think that Gardner is going to fulfill his commitment to UM. What an ass!!

I would hardly say that he's "ripping" on UM fans for being cautiously optimistic. He's surprised and he's pointed out that Michigan is 4-0 and should be confident, even if the defense is porous.

Yeah, the Gardner bit is annoying, but it's not without precedent.

Yeah, you are right, he isn't ripping on UM fans, but you can tell he is being smug about it. To me he is saying that UM fans really don't believe in our team just because we aren't calling his stupid show. Why should UM fans call in? To get berated, talked down to and yelled at?

This fits in nice with the Drama Queen rants coming out of East Lansing. "Dantonio says you can tell that you hate a Wolverine within 30 seconds, but its really 15 seconds, everyone hates them, they give us no respect, blah blah blah...try to drum up drama to rally around."

sometimes I get the feeling that their call-screeners only let Michigan fans through if they are idiots (yes, they are out there) and either a) agree with Mike's views on RichRod or b) have something stupid to say that he can easily rip on, and make it seem as though every Michigan fan feels the way these folks do.

He makes it seem as though Michigan fans are the scum (or scUM hahaha lol lol lol!!!!!1) of the earth, and MOST Spartan fans are down-to-earth, level-headed respectable human beings that have no emotional problems whatsoever. He also ate up the document-shredding "incident" and pretty much believes any negative press regarding RR, particularly the Feagin story (or how it was spun) and the other Freep unspeakable idiocy.

Not true at all. Sure, there are idiotic UM fans that call in, but there are 3-4 times as many reasonable UM fans that get on the air as well. I've been listening to Valenti 2-3 times a week for the past three years, and yes, he obviously makes no effort to hide his allegiances, but don't make it out like his show is some Sparty beat-off all the time. It's not.

I attempted to explain that the defensive statistics look somewhat different when pace was accounted for. I also made the point that the defense barely finished taking their helmets off by the time the offense scored (EMU game), and that this did not help the defensive numbers either. They seemed to agree with me.

No, I mean it's not unprecedented for very, very-highly ranked recruits to decommit and head elsewhere if a redshirt is likely. It happens all the time.

Do I think it will happen with Gardner? No, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did happen.

trying to get michigan fans to call in and say something stupid so he can tear them apart on the air. as for the gardner stuff, again he's trying to get michigan fans fired up so they'll call in.

...or you just need a pick-me-up, Google "Valenti meltdown" and click on any of the hundreds of links for pure audio porn. Valenti loses his composure, voice, self-respect...after the Sparty loss in the rain a few years ago to the Domers.

Sometimes I just dial it up to have a smile on a bad day.

As much as Valenti annoys me at times, this show and Karsch and Anderson are two great pieces of radio programming on 97.1

I love how the random CMU references in the background (i.e. "TOUCHDOWN CMU!" "Lefevour, Lefevour, Lefevour") are played in the background.

He's an idiot, plain and simple. He is usually very knowledgeable, but when it comes to Michigan and especially the Tigers, he is an ass. And I'm trying to be as PC as possible.

Their Gardner argument is that Devin redshirts next season and then sits for an additional two until Tate graduates? Now their whole premise is based on the assumption that Tate will be entrenched as the starter for 4 years, which I'm not convinced will happen. If Rodriguez has shown anything, the best player will play regardless of seniority. If Devin thinks he can come in and win the job, I think he'll honor his commitment to Michigan.

I'm glad you wrote this. It confirms what I often think as he speaks.

I just can't really get at anything he's trying to talk about. It's just one constant contradition after another and him constantly talking over the caller or the other guy on the show with him.

I usually last about 3 minutes and then I have to turn the dial.

He is a total mystery to me. How does a guy who is as inarticulate as he get a job on radio, for heavens sake? Most of the time I can not fathom what exactly his point is. While Valenti is often a buffoon, you never are at a loss for where he stands.

Mr. Caputo, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

...tearing into MSU all week. Esp. for their "disrespect" comments.

Yesterday's clip of him doing the Spartan Starting Defense lineup over the circus music helped me laugh the whole way home from work.

but the man knows how to do a radio show. I'm never bored listening to that or the Karsch and Anderson show. I love listening to both. And be honest...how fun would it be if the hosts of all these shows were agreeable with us all the time? That would be boring.

Sven_Da_M

Mikey V. makes for good radio; not always what you want to hear, but at least never boring.

And what I like best is he will challenge callers who can't make a valid point or sustain an argument. Too many hosts on sports radio coddle idiot callers who sound like they are dialing in from a rotary phone nailed to the wall of their parents' basement.

You watch, Valenti's career will take him beyond Detroit.

Take off the Maize and Blue goggles and listen to what he has to say. He's a very smart guy when it comes to football and he's an MSU alum that holds his program accountable. He doesn't waste one second with anyone who brings illogical or wrong arguments to the table, and that's why, I think some people think he's an ass. Ironically, that's the exact reason I respect his opinion.

Plus, he and Terry make an entertaining duo, especially after CMU took down MSU.

mike on this site more than others. i agree with you when you say that people have to take off the maize and blue glasses and just realize he knows what he is talking about.

but, there are time when i have to change the station because he gets on an anti michigan kick and i get to pissed off to listen. the times where it happens the most is during michigan/michigan state week and when the topic of recruiting comes up. what doesn't help this is when michigan fans call in and have nothing good to say other than trying to insult him.

I'm not taking away from the fact that he is knowledgeable. He has been very critical of MSU this week also. All I'm trying to say is I think he is trying to goad UM fans into calling in so that he can get on with his typical show...yelling at, putting down, and berating UM fans. Especially when he starts to bring up the Gardner recruiting. What the hell does that have to do with UM/MSU week? Nothing, so why bring it up?

the guy who called in that is friends with cam gordon (he didn't say cam's name but if you heard how he said you figured it out). the guy basically said that since hes friends with cam he has heard him talk about devin and that devin knows what he is getting into by coming to michigan and he fine with that. valenti shot down the whole thing and made it sound like the guy had no idea what he was talking about. now i know that we shouldn't listen to stuff from 3rd parties, but the guy didn't sound like an idiot.

Ah, the Valenti meltdown. It never gets old.

I've avoided installing Apple's virus software for quite some time now as I despise them and it (just like norton anymore) and am trying to find another site that has it. Any suggestions, all the other links google comes up with are expired.

I came here to say two things....

1. I like Valenti sometimes because he's what every fan should be: critical of your own team when you need to be and not overly "high" on their achievements.

2. "MAKE PLAYS!"

What type of person listens so much to someone they rag on or hate so much? Why so many UM fans listen to Valenti and then post 80 bagrillion threads on Michigan boards about him or what he says is so far out of my wheelhouse I can't comprehend it.

I mean, do you guys wake up in the morning and have someone kick you in the junk and then bitch about how much being kicked in the junk hurts? Sheer sadomasochistic lunacy.

I don't like the guy--I don't listen! WOW! Who'd a thunk that a simple thing like that brings much of the happy to my life?

Couldn't agree with you more. And I'm pretty sure I'd never say that.

If he sounds like an immature dick on the radio, that is usually because he is an immature dick. If anything, his being on the radio prevents him from showing his true dickitude.

Its simple..Its not that mike valenti doesn't "think" Devin Gardner will commit to be a wolverine, its that mike valenti doesn't "want" DG to become a wolverine..He along with all other Wolverine haters knows its gonna be a 2 horse race between Michigan and.....once DG hits the field..Once the best athlete Terrelle Pryor exits the conference, the best athlete DG will be arriving under center..And enough with all this REDSHIRT non-sense..if DG arrives in January he'll be our 2nd string QB going into spring 2010..Anyone who thinks Tate wont miss a game due to injury over the next 2-3 years is frikkin crazzzyyyyy..
