What happened to Blake Countess

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on
I was at the game and haven't been near a tv or radio since. What happened to Blake Countess. I know he was out there in the first quarter bu then he disappeared. Thought I saw him standing on the sidelines in his pads. Did he get hurt or pulled?

Go look at my comments about Stribling after the PSU game. He's awful. And if he's the best freshmen DB we have, trust me; youth isn't the issue, talent is. He can't tackle and can't play the ball when in the air.

There isn't much more a corner is asked to do. . .

Mattison calls the scheme, yes, but he can't make the tackles for his players, either.  Stribling could have stopped Bell for a six yard gain.  Maybe Nebraska would have scored anyway but it was a pretty crucial sequence at that point in the game.  It also happened right in front of me so perhaps it is burned into my brain more than it should.

Anyway, my original point wasn't to criticize but rather refute what I believed to be goblue16 saying that Countess didn't play because of Stribling's superior performance, to which I disagree.

It wouldn't have mattered one bit. 4th & 2 means don't give them a 5-yard hitch. It was obviously disappointing that the tackle was missed but the big fuck up there is on Mattison for allowing such an easy conversion in the first place.

We play soft on 3rd downs, no pash rush, huge openings in middle of field on zone defenses. QBs will avoid Countess anyway and throw it at Lewis, Stribling, Avery, etc.

Countess could have been used for corner blitzes and run support on option if nothing else.

during the game, kept looking for #6 and #18 across, and could only come up with #6 and #8 for play after play.  I was worried about a catastrophic re-injury but didn't see anything mentioned in the presser...maybe thats because nobody specifically asked (??)

Then it dawned on me that maybe the coaches made some kind of a statement for whatever Countess did (??) which was below standard.  Its a theory of course as I didn't see anything obvious.

Maybe good that Stribling got his feet wet for several quarters including the feeling of getting burned a little.
