Well look, if Michigan had lost five consecutive games, would you be basically guaranteeing victory the next week?
I'm not saying that we are in a great state or predicting victory for that matter, but NW is also a mess at the moment.
November 10th, 2013 at 10:39 AM ^
has played better than Michigan this year. If anything they are going to be more pumped to beat Michigan given their results so far.
Iowa is not going to be a cakewalk either.
November 10th, 2013 at 9:32 AM ^
If losing 4 big ten games is "pretty good", then, well, my how our expectations at Michigan have fallen.

Don't you mean 8-4?

No chance.
November 10th, 2013 at 9:28 AM ^
Yes, or at least it would feel like 1995 and '96 where we weren't totally happy about the prior underachievement but ended on a happy note. It's pretty tough to imagine right now though.

In my opnioin, beating OSU is more important when we are having a decent to good season, than when we are having a bad season. That rivalry is built on the history that in the Big Ten, it was us and them. We were the two best programs, fighting for the top spot. The importance of that game, when the rivarly was being built, rodes on at least competing in other Big Ten games, adn most often being very near the top of the Big Ten coming into that game. I always want to beat them, but that is because of the foundation past teams built of needing to beat them to get to the Rose Bowl and beyond. In my opinion, beating OSU means more when we have had a decent season. Beating OSU this year woudl be great in terms of what it does to them, but it does little for us in a season that has already been wrecked.

at this point, it's likely that the OSU game might get puched to the BTN. we apologise
November 10th, 2013 at 9:33 AM ^
I see this from the other direction. Ohio will beat us, but if we were a any good that victory would help get them into the Natl Championship game. As it stands, they'll likely go undefeated and not make the game. Go Blue!

Well, I will put it like this - considering that that the predicted odds of beating OSU on Massey's site are now at 17% after yesterday's loss, a win that essentially blows the predictive analytics out of the water would be amazing in a lot of respects.
November 10th, 2013 at 9:39 AM ^
That's 1 out of 6, and I am a little surprised that it is that high. Is there an associated point spread on the game? I would think, given its home, about 14.
November 10th, 2013 at 9:44 AM ^
If you use the current Sagarin ratings to predict the spread, it would be OSU - 13.65, so for now, we would likely be 2 TD underdogs if that game were played today. It will be interesting to see how the ratings move (hopefully for the better) in the next two weeks.

Sagarin has N.Illinois at #6 and has change his formula twice during the season .

Michigan is going to be ass-stomped in this game. The only question is by how many touchdowns. Don't torment yourself with useless speculation.
November 10th, 2013 at 9:40 AM ^
It would definitely be like some of the old Bo teams who were given no chance and beat an undefeated OSU team. I do think Michigan should be the underdog now in every game left on the season. That really sucks, but at least any surprises from here on out will be pleasant ones.
November 10th, 2013 at 10:06 AM ^
Since Bo was my era of football, I can assure you that there wasn't a single season in Schembechler's UM career when anybody with any brains said we had "no chance" to beat OSU, whether they were undefeated or not.
I think you're thinking about a few of Carr's seasons.
November 10th, 2013 at 10:25 AM ^
OSU was claimed to be the best team in history. That is why that game was the "upset of the century". I was there. But, that type of upset is probably not happening this year.
November 10th, 2013 at 10:37 AM ^
but after that game, Bo proved we always had a good chance of beating OSU.
Beating OSU this season would be a greater upset than the '69 game. Not because the 2013 OSU team is more awesome and fearsome than the 1969 OSU squad, but because the 2013 Michigan team is a poorly coached disaster.

This coach has talked about championships and every season this program is farther away from winning one. No one game can make up for, or erase the simple fact that this staff cannot adjust in-game to the situation. The offense has had at least two(probably more by then) negative rushing yard games. That is completely unacceptable.
RR got a little better every year. This staff has gotten worse every year. outh and inexperience are not the only, or even the main reason anymore.
Beating OSU would be nice, but read this twice: IT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN!
November 10th, 2013 at 9:43 AM ^
Hoke will not get fired at the end of this season. He will likely get at least 5 years, which I think most coaches deserve. But losing to OSU in Ann Arbor this year, will set the tone for his demise after his 5 years are up. If he wants to keep his job, he should plan accordingly.
I think that winning the OSU game is the only way
November 10th, 2013 at 9:44 AM ^
but it won't happen... lol
yes, I wrote 'lol' but I actually laughed out loud...
fuck ohio.
and fuck worrying about this years season... we might win another game, we might not... either way I just want the season to end...

Of course it does.
People are still upset right now, but if we ruined Urban's 23-0 record? Ruined his chance at a National title? This place would go nuts. The sky is no longer falling. There would be a "Give Borges some credit" thread. There would be a "If you even questioned Hoke, you are an idiot" thread. All would be right in the world again.

But close calls vs Akron and UCONN. I complete letdown vs PSU. A rape on national television vs MSU. And just a listless offensive performance vs Nebraska are not getting "saved" by a win vs OSU. AND WE WONT WIN VS OSU.

I recall the string of 4-loss seasons in the mid-90's. Each time we went into the OSU game, I had already mentally prepared for 5-loss seasons. It also didn't hurt that those OSU teams were very good. Ruining their seasons was absolutely delicious. I see one thing different between those years and this year: we could actually run the damn ball. There won't be any hand-it-off-to-Timmy-B-for-313-yard scenarios this year, even though OSU's defense has shown some weaknesses this year.
November 10th, 2013 at 4:20 PM ^
People still talk about how the '93, '95, and '96 teams knocked off OSU. Nobody rememebers or cares that those teams had crappy seasons.
November 10th, 2013 at 7:58 PM ^
Seroiusly? But what do you think they would be saying if those teams had good seasons?
