I knew it wasn't good when Sam Webb did not give us his gut feeling this morning on the Recruiting Roundup.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:17 PM ^
Hopefully everyone is wrong and he picks Michigan, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
Come to Ann Arbor Trey Zeigler!
September 29th, 2009 at 8:20 PM ^
it's official.
September 29th, 2009 at 11:31 PM ^
The only sources noted were the Fox Sports one, and UMHoops (which cites Fox Sports). Fox Sports cites only "sources." Here's the entire thing:
"Sources tell FOXSports.com that Scout.com's No. 55 player in the country, wing Casey Prather, will commit to Florida on Wednesday."
I'm clearly short-handed (I don't even know what "The Fort" - that source you relied on - is) but I'm not sold 100%. Generic "sources" aren't even as reliable as those "sources close to the program" that told us Les Miles was our next football coach.
It will be official when it's, you know, official. Like when Casey says so.
Until then, let me hold onto my shred of hope and rely on my trusty friends Dumb and Dumber:
Lloyd: What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together?
Mary: Well, Lloyd, that's difficult to say. I mean, we don't really...
Lloyd: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
Mary: Not good.
Lloyd: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary: I'd say more like one out of a million.
[pause]
Lloyd: So you're telling me there's a chance... *YEAH!*

The Fort is Michigan's Rivals site.
The news has been reported there, GBW (Michigan's Scout site), Florida's Rivals site, and Fox Sports.
September 29th, 2009 at 11:43 PM ^
So I would truly have to be dumb to be holding out hope.
And the hope survives!!!!
September 30th, 2009 at 6:36 AM ^
HUSBAND? What was all that one in a million talk?
September 29th, 2009 at 8:20 PM ^
Disappointing, of course, but I believe Beilein is going to end up with the right players for his system, and this tells me this player wasn't it.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:22 PM ^
Beilein thought he was just fine for the system.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:33 PM ^
I know Belein's been doing a great job, but that doesn't mean he won't ever miss out on a recruit he wants. There are probably dozens of kids in the country that would fit perfectly into his scheme, and they can't all come to Michigan.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:39 PM ^
Ummm dude, you may want to correct this post before you receive more negs. Just because he didn't choose Michigan doesn't mean he would not fit the system.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:43 PM ^
oh noes! negs!
September 29th, 2009 at 9:29 PM ^
I'm not sure if he's saying he didn't choose Michigan because he wouldn't fit the system or that we never really should have wanted him to begin with.
September 29th, 2009 at 9:52 PM ^
Also, you realize that by replying to his post you were locking it so that he couldn't edit it right? What a jerk.
September 30th, 2009 at 2:18 AM ^
Considering I was the third person to reply to his post, I didn't lock anything....
September 29th, 2009 at 10:00 PM ^
CORRECT an opinion? Harsh. Thanks for all the 'negs' guys. If I can't be in your club, just let me know.
September 29th, 2009 at 10:50 PM ^
You basically said that a player Beilein has been pursuing for a year now is going elsewhere because he didn't fit the system.
So yeah...opinions can and should be corrected when they're that absurd.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:21 PM ^
Paging Mr. Zeigler.....Mr. Zeigler, Coach Beilein would like to see you in his office...
September 29th, 2009 at 8:25 PM ^
Goddammit.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:28 PM ^
His coach's Twitter has been silent all day. Not saying that's related to this news, just find that intruiging.
September 29th, 2009 at 8:35 PM ^
Prather thinks this is the coach:
But it's really this guy:
September 29th, 2009 at 8:37 PM ^
As far as I can tell, he's handled this whole process as well as a 17 year old kid can possibly be expected to. Why bring that crap out?
September 29th, 2009 at 8:42 PM ^
Because its funny. Some of us cope with our sadness through laughter.
September 29th, 2009 at 9:08 PM ^
Would have been a nice get, if only for program perception (not to mention people seem to think he'll be a pretty good player on the court). Can't really blame him for wanting to play under a coach that has been to three NCAA Finals and won two national titles. Also, UM can't offer the opportunity for Prather to be circumcised by Tim Tebow himself.
Wish the kid all the best (though I hope our guys play well enough over the next few years to make him regret the decision just a little bit).
September 29th, 2009 at 10:22 PM ^
This sucks, but I said a long time ago that if I had to pick just one between Prather and Zeigler I'd take Zeigler, just to keep him out of MSU's hands. So let's go get Zeigler.
September 29th, 2009 at 10:24 PM ^
Would've loved to see you as a Wolverine...that being said, can't blame you for going to Florida. They've been as good as any program over the past few years....plus the weather, palm trees and southern girls don't hurt either. In any case, Good luck to ya kid...
I can't wait until Beilien builds a program that makes him regret his decision...not that I wish any ill will, but I believe that Coach B will build the envy of the country.
Go Blue.

UM Hoops has a post up now:
September 29th, 2009 at 11:42 PM ^
Any guess on the number of new posts this will cause? I'll go with three. This one, one in the morning first thing, one a few days from now.
September 29th, 2009 at 11:54 PM ^
1 - This one,
2 - First thing Wed. morning.
3 - Either at lunch or dinner time Wed. depending on how long the morning one hangs around.
4 - Thursday morning.

I'm really impressed at his haul. We have a top-15 class right now; if we're lucky, we land Ziegler and move in to a top-5 class (potentially) with just one tourney appearance in more than a decade.
September 30th, 2009 at 9:33 AM ^
We have a top 15 class right now but everyone else has just as much of a chance to move up by landing another top prospect before signing day. That being said I agree I hope we land Zeigler and if not it just leaves us more room in 2011 for either Kearney or Gilchrist...
September 30th, 2009 at 9:18 AM ^
That stinks.
