Hoke is Charlie Weiss.

Weiss 9-3 first season with Willingham's players.

10-3 second season

exposed in 3rd season at 3-9

despite top 5-10 recruiting classes, the fall into mediocrity continues with 7-6 and 6-6 seasons in year 4 and 5.

Hoke is Charlie Weiss.  Accept it.

Not sure how much coaching has taken place - or been ingrained within the team.  Most college teams get better week to week - very untrue with Michigan - which goes back directly to coaching.  Gardner - who looked competent at the beginning of the year - now looks skittish.  Fitz is useless - can't block and can't run forward unless completely the field is completely clear for him.  Line does us no favors, but when my 8 year old twins can predict the plays - it's a really bad sign.

2 things:

1. No need to take his comment personally.  This is a sports blog and we're talking sports which really doesn't require anger towards another fan asking a reasonable question.

2. Funk needed to go months ago.  Borges obviously needed to go since maybe 2-3 weeks ago.  The question is whether Brady should go with them.

Nebraska has one of the worst defenses in the country and gifted us a muffed punt at a critical juncture and we chose to run the ball on 1st and 2nd down for negative yardage. This is pathetic by itself but when you consider this team has like -100000 yards rushing the last 2 weeks its unforgivable. Borges is a fucking idiot.

I was at the game and everyone around me saw it the same way.  The play calling was terrible.  Running on 1st and 2nd down continuously.  Gardiner (who's confidence is clearly shaken) was continuously put in 2nd and 3rd and long situations.  He was put in a position to fail most of the day.

Mattison continues to confound me as well.  This is the 3rd loss when we needed defensive stops and the defensive backs are 10-15 yard off the line of scrimage.

Penn State - Offense gives a 10 point cushion in the 4th and they stop attacking defensively.  They let a freshman QB pick them apart.

Michigan State - Michigan ties the game at 6 before the half and the defense plays bend but don't break w/defensive backs 10+ off the line of scrimmage - result TD before the half.  Then to start the 2nd half, same story.  Game effectively over at that point.

Nebraska - Michigan goes ahead 13-10 late in the 4th and the very next possession the defensive backs were off the ball 10+ yards.  I don't know how many 3rd down plays we saw today where the defensive backs were so far off the receivers they started on the other side of the first down marker, then would back pedal and let the receivers catch the ball in front of them for the 1st down.

They made a 3rd string Nebraska QB drive right down the field.  They have made every QB this year look like a Hall of Famer in crunch time and that IS SCHEME.

PLAY AGGESSIVE DEFENSE THE WHOLE DAMN GAME ALREADY!  Earn your salary!

seriously, you are talking about the player.  YOu are not talking about hoke.  the first person that is responsible is hoke, every d-coord is playing the same way against us and we dont adjust, how.  neb is the 9th ranked d in the b10 and and 180+ in hte nation. Hoke made them look amazing. how are you blaming the player.  HOke is not coaching the player.  They are not giving them a chance to win

I was partially defending Borges last week even though I don't like him as an OC just because that game was such a total debacle against a very good defense that it was pointless and lots of people were just being dicks about it. But come on, this game was utterly indefensible. -21 yards rushing against a terrible DL and rush defense. They actually played worse in this one than against State. That's impressive. They probably won't win a game the rest of the year.

RR's defenses could shut down this Michigan offense. That's not even a joke.

How can the players execute when their OC has no overall offensive philosophy other than gadget plays and formations that are thrown in as the season progresses? The fact that the players are young only makes having some sort of overall plan even more imperative. What exactly is Al's offensive philosophy other then pray for lots of talent and upperclassmen to gloss over his haphazard playcalling

the players not executing every game is the coaches' fault. That's why there are coaches. Even as someone who hasn't criticized the coaching til this point all season, I don't think there's any way to even imply it isn't primarily the coaches' faults at this point.

The offensive numbers are consistently beyond even understandable failure.

He's been here too long, and I'm too emotionally attached to him to let him go. I just settled on Fire Borges today. And he actually has been here through a lot of great running backs/ games. But give me time.

Honestly it's not about the QB, O-Line or RB play... It's not about blocking, it's about predictability in play calling and more importantly this pathetic attempt to run the ball from under center or otherwise!! I don't understand why Borges is insisting on playing such a bonehead plan! In the past when our team couldn't establish a run early, they'd start passing! Now nooooo, we try to run it again, must've been an execution problem... Once, twice, thrice, until we're down in the game with 2 mins to go and a needed TD.. Even then, I'm sure Borges still thought about running.. My coaching experience doesn't go beyond NCAA football 2014 on PS3 and I'd have the common sense to stop running the ball if I faced what Michigan has faced today defensively!! That is just wrong!! This was our win and we just handed it away.. This is all on the coaching staff.. The kids played their hearts out there, didn't turn the ball over and got 2 turnovers, just to be beaten by their offensive coordinator! Too bad.. go Blue! Let's hope we have a chance when OSU comes to town!!

David Brandon should be questioning brady hoke and whether he is a coach for this program, this program is sinking.  I said it from the begining, this has nothign to do with borges, this is a hoke problem.  He cant coach.  This job is way over his head.  He cant manage a game cleanily how you expect the player to do.  Every game HOKE has a brain fart.  HOw you think the player can

Better be prepared to find a new job if he plans on sticking with them.  And he needs to wear a headset cause our coaches aren't good enough to make their own choices.   Unless he has no balls to override what they call or maybe he just is stupid and only knows defense.  Just pissed that I could have done a better job then Borges.   And I have no coaching experience.

I feel relatively confident that Hoke is not going anywhere based on a 6 year contract that has him as the 8th highest paid coach in the NCAA.  Is it possible that Borges and Funk aren't going anywhere because Hoke is demanding this style?  Is he trying to instill a power run game with a trial by fire approach?

If that is not the reason, we should wonder why Hoke continues to defend the playcalling and coaching.

when they have few years left in their contract all the time. What's even worse is not renewing the contract when coaches has less than 2 years left, it's telling people that they don't have confidence on the coach.  The standard is to extend contract to help recruiting.

The problem with Borges isn't only, or even mostly, the playcalling.

It's the entire philosophy of the offense, the way they are taught, and the way they are built.

And it's a failure.

I no longer wish to defend anything about his coaching, even the stuff that I think is unfair. I have no energy for it. Numbers don't lie.

And the numbers are bad.
