The Snowflake Thread: Coaching

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This will be this evening's thread to discuss issues with the coaching and any issues you may have with the staff in general.

This is a very bad Michigan team. Every unit has underperformed. There is not one coach on this staff that should be missed if they chose to leave. Looking around the Big Ten, it's easy to see other teams improve from week to week while Michigan seems to regress. This coaching staff does a good job of turning 4 stars into 2 stars, but not much else.

This lot can't develop player worth a lick. It's not just the 3 head honcho's either. It's Fred, it's Funk, it's Heck, it's Mallory, it's Wellman. None of them have earned their pay this season.

I had a very limited amount of optimism going in to this game after the penn state game....not entirely expecting a win, but would've been happy enough to see the team play with fire and challenge the MSU defense....well, sucks to be wrong, especially after a bye-week.

At a minimum, Funk needs to be fired.  I said that he was a bad hire when Hoke brought him on, and he's a bad hire now.  The dude has never had a good OL.  Fire him TONIGHT.

I'm actually glad we have to come to East Lansing again next year.  Hoke needs to stare down the gauntlet and provide the will for his team to win these games.  I still believe in Hoke and fully support him.  But this has to be the bottom.  He must hold coaches accountable for their unit's performance.  He must convey the mental toughness to win these games.  Or this is not Michigan.

The only thing I can think right now is what does Michigan Football look like after Brady Hoke? You pull the plug on this guy right now, or after another middling season, what happens? We've now tried it both ways. Hot name outsider? Dumpster fire. Sleeper pick insider? Trash can fire that looks extinguishable.

For those who want Hoke gone, what's the logical next step? What's the alternative that looks better here? He's recruiting extremely well, his players like him, the alums like him, he runs a clean program, but is being hamstrung by his management strategy that gives his assistants free reign to tank the program. So what do we do without being Notre Dame?

That's the only guy in the country who has a comparable gulf between recruiting ability (A+) and player development (F).

I love Hoke.  Class guy, likeable, good priorities, outstanding representative of the University of Michigan.

But he's in over his head right now.  Two weeks to prepare... and we get that.

More than any other year I can recall, the board is going full retard after losses and poorly executed wins. Its reaching unreadable status along with boards like mlive and scout, really sad to see.

The team is mediocre with a few good players who are expected to be elite in order to cash in victories. If you couldn't figure THAT out after the first seven games and happened to expect a victory against an MSU defense that clearly delivers, you need to back away from the keyboard for a while.

It's a loss, Sparty will be unbearable for 12 months. Just mentally settle into the idea of MSU fans in full douchebag mode for a while and move on. 6-2, winnable games are still out there. Beat OSU and the season can be salvaged.

As for the coaches, I didn't see anything terrible today from them except Funk's guys of course. I saw what was probably the right game plan go up in smoke because Gardner was getting half a second or less post snap to get rid the ball on most throws.

See THAT Borges does nothing to combat an aggressive D then you sir are dumb. I am tired if seeing 3-4 receivers running 15+ yard routes. Other teams see it on film and know they can blitz and get to the QB.

What I'm seeing is Borges struggle against quite possibly the best defense MSU has ever fielded in school history with undoubtably the best DC they've ever had.

I'm willing to give this one a pass. The PSU game? Not so much.

The line will be better next season. Its hard to imagine, since we'll be losing two good tackles, but I promise you it will be better. I'm no expert, but I did tell everyone that this line would be worse than last year's version because of youth. Lineman, unless they just can't hack it physically or mentally, just need experience. The interior will be better next season, and Magnuson will have started 6-7 games by then. It will be better, even if Funk is coaching them.

Is this where I post fire...funk? Really all but 1 player in the online 5stars and in the system for 2 years and that's what we get. Too bad Michigan won't react like that because we are 6-2 but our fans should attest to that. Consensus?

? Schofield and Lewan are both 4 star guys who are 5th year seniors. On the interior line we had 3 third year players (one being a walk on) and 5 2nd year players to choose from for 3 spots plus the true freshmen.

We're 6-2 with the toughest part of our schedule ahead. I understand the frustrations with OL development. Gameplanning, not so much.

Japanese solution - when leadership has failed, ritual suicide.

Kill oneself with a sword in the gut.

That's what I would have the coaches do.  Line up at midfield and symbolicly, with imaginary swords, gut themselves.  That would be awesome and we'd then talk about something else that was less stressful than the same old snowflakes we've been bitching about all year BUT KNOW FOR A FACT will not change.
