We're fucked.
October 28th, 2013 at 8:05 PM ^
lol, have you watched any of our games this year?

Your sarcasm meter must be broken. Lucky for you, mine is working flawlessly and I can tell you exactly what he meant. He was being sarcastic.

Funchess can play tackle
October 29th, 2013 at 3:09 AM ^
to tackle.
October 28th, 2013 at 4:59 PM ^
Because of the way Williams has played, people will claim this doesn't hurt. Here's where it does hurt: you are now forcing either Funchess to move by the H-back and put Butt at Y-TE, or you're putting Paskorz at Y-TE, which isn't his strength either.
Yes, it probably means a bit fewer 2-TE sets, which I think you were going to see to an extent anyway, but the moving of parts around Williams could put Michigan in some situations they don't prefer to be in.
October 28th, 2013 at 5:49 PM ^
Funchess stays at WR...Paskorz and Butt are our TEs.
When you need a 3rd TE you bring in Kalis and move Lewan to TE.
When you need a pass catcher you go with Gallon-Funchess-Dileo and Butt as your TE.
Outside of depth, I don't see how this affects us. Butt has been solid at blocking and he's been in with Williams OR Paskorz. Now you just eliminated the OR and it'll be Paskorz as the 2nd TE behind Butt.
October 28th, 2013 at 6:46 PM ^
Doesn't hurt? I think this helps. Don't get me wrong, AJ Williams is a positive for the team, but this should eliminate the possibility of running any tackle over formations.
October 28th, 2013 at 7:05 PM ^
And so is Paskorz. Now one of them has to step in and play a different role that is much more dependent on blocking. It is different.
October 29th, 2013 at 9:40 AM ^
It's not like Williams was going out catching passes.
Just use more of Kalis if that's the big issue.
Still don't see it as a big deal.
More Dileo, More Kalis.
October 28th, 2013 at 6:19 PM ^
Borges has never shown any indication of reducing his 2-TE sets in response to personnel, which has been a weakness since Koger left.
Paskorz is going to see significant snaps, and he's not as good as Williams.
I would say our best hope is more use of 6 OL with Kalis taking Williams' role in the tackle over stuff.
October 28th, 2013 at 7:07 PM ^
But it was going to be less against MSU because of the how Borges wants to attack MSU. Underneath, the #2 receiver is the most effective way of attacking MSU, lining up 2-tight like Borges likes to do isn't as effective. They would still run it some because it's part of their system, but it probably wasn't and isn't going to be as often as they have in the past.
October 28th, 2013 at 7:02 PM ^
I'd rather see a tackle or guard play the TE position on obvious blocking downs if Butt is not playing and save Funchess for outside role. With Dileo questionable and even if healthy not an outside threat we have nothing outside opposite Gallon other than seniors who do not do much except against MAC level competition and special teams demon Chesson. Need Funchess outside period.

Hoke's quote on this, pieced together from two tweets from Kyle Bogenschutz:
"It's certainly disappointing when one of your kids makes a very poor decision. AJ realizes he has let a lot of people down, including himself. As families do, we will help AJ as he learns a valuable lesson from this."
October 28th, 2013 at 4:59 PM ^
They really should think about using Kalis or Bryant in Williams' spot. Might as well, Williams never goes out for passes anyways.
October 28th, 2013 at 5:02 PM ^
Put Kalis in and were kicking out Magnusson in many situations. So that's already happened to some degree in some circumstances.
October 28th, 2013 at 5:08 PM ^
Whatever works. I mean, Williams was used to block, and he got beat a lot this year. Kicking Magnuson out wouldn't be bad. Max protect Gardner so he hopefully doesn't see a whole lot of pressure.
October 28th, 2013 at 5:04 PM ^
Against indiana when they went Tackle Over they put Kalis in at RG, bumped Magnuson to RT and gone with 6 OL rather than have Williams try to play Tackle.
But yes, I'd expect that to continue to be the plan
October 28th, 2013 at 4:59 PM ^
Damn college kids!
October 28th, 2013 at 5:00 PM ^
Maybe this will force them to pass the ball more instead of trying to manball -- oh who am I kidding. They love manball. There's no quitting manball.
October 28th, 2013 at 5:02 PM ^
Just another reason to throw MANBALL down the TOILET.
Spread it out and watch that offense hum, BORGES.

Remember when CL Rucker was issued a DUI and Dantonio lifted his suspension right before the week of the Michigan game? What a drastic difference in disciplinary approaches.
October 28th, 2013 at 5:17 PM ^
IIRC Rucker's DUI came after the Michigan game, in fact I'm pretty sure it was the very same night.

Correct. He played against Iowa because it "wouldn't have been fair to the team" for him not to play.

Michigan week, Iowa week
Tomato, Carrot
My bad. Anywho, we get this point.

Dantonio: The team, the team, the team....
October 28th, 2013 at 5:49 PM ^
I get it. U-M football fans are feeling inferior and are lashing out at something. It makes it easier to paint MSU as a thug, out-of-control program. Funny, though, the Wall Street Journal ranked MSU as one of the best teams on and off the field. Yep. I loved what Dileo brought to the TE position.

A slot receiver takes the place of a tight end and vice versa.
October 29th, 2013 at 9:18 AM ^
ZOOM?
The joke flying over your head. No offense I just thought it was funny. I'm pretty sure his statement relied on the implied knowledge that slot is same place on field as tight end.
October 28th, 2013 at 8:39 PM ^
what exactly was his injury, and what is his status now?

that should be fun....we'll see what kind of push he can get.

He should be suspended just for being IN Ohio.

I thought it was pretty good.
On opposite day.

He either drank the world Saturday night or had one too many mimosas. Poor lapse in judgement, thankfully nobody was injured
October 28th, 2013 at 7:18 PM ^
I can't tell if you're joking or not, but anything after midnight Saturday night is considering Sunday morning.
