Scrape counter stolen by OSU?
By now everyone has probably seen Brian's awesome picture pages of our scrape exchange counter unveiled during the Notre Dame game. (http://mgoblog.com/content/picture-pages-scrape-counterpunch if you haven't seen it already).
Anyways, I watched a couple minutes of the OSU-Illinois game, and lo and behold, Tressel trots out the OSU offense with an H-back in the backfield, and Pryor runs the zone-read with our scrape counter action. From everything that I've read online, it seems that our unique scrape counter was thought up by the coaching staff this year, and now Tressel and his offense has stolen it to jumpstart their ailing offense.

Seriously, coaches copy each other all the time. If that is what happened, it is probably one of the smartest things Tressel has done in awhile. It also shows he is not too arrogant to see that he can always learn from other coaches. Actually, it bums me out. I didn't think he had it in him. On the other hand, we would be very foolish to think OSU is going to stand still and let us blow past them with innovative schemes and plays without at least putting up a fight. Let the games begin!

For years i've felt like we were late to the party late to make adjustments and late to innovate (some would call it being stubborn). It's nice to be early for a change and letting everyone else try to react. I think this is what RR's tenure will be like for the next 5-10 years...innovating and changing while the rest of the Big Ten tries to keep up.

This isn't uncommon for coaches to do. Hence why the spread has become the most popular formation in football right now.

there really isn't much that's original anymore. If something works for one team, other teams will start doing it.

was being recruited, and said he wanted to be a Pro quarterback and that he thought Ohio State would give him the best chance.......because he didn't want to be a spread QB.

has a variation of that the H back kickout block on the end. Its hardly "new or innovative". RR has it in his playbook and cranked it out when he knew it would work.

There is nothing new in football. Everything you come up with has been done by other people. The Wildcat is the single wing, the spread option was used by Nebraska multiple times before the term was even coined. Nothing in football is ever "stolen".
