The Snowflake Thread: Defense

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

Here is your snowflake thread for the defense. I am fairly certain that, if you go by normalized values, this might be the worst performance of the season, but I'll do the calculation once the game is over.

that is not true.  Talent is there just very young and getting better.  Couple lucky plays for IU led to 21 ez points.  (fumbled option, int that became first down, int that became TD)

This reminded me of the 2010 Michigan v Illinois game.  I can't beleive how many recievers were open all day.  Even when we had good coverage we still seemed to come up short.  Poor Stribling happened again with the deep balls getting caught right in front of his face.  I do think Stribling has a bright future, but I'll be happy when Peppers can shut down a receiver.

I think the hurry up offense had a lot to do with the performance today. They looked ill-prepared for it. Not to mention Indiana has a pretty good offense. I trust Mattison to get the defense under control in the next week or so, seeing as he's a very good coordinator.

"There's only so much you can do for it when your Dline doesn't get very good penetration to begin with."

Exactly.

This game takes on a completely different feel if the defensive line was able to get pressure on the Indiana QB.  Do that and suddenly throws that were on target become slightly off target and dropped; slightly off target balls get picked; third down conversions missed and Indiana punting more.

"It all starts up front" is not an empty cliche.

If Michigan can find 4 that get push and couple that with the secondary talent that's in pipeline, this is going to be a very good defense.

It wasn't pretty but a win is a win and A LOT of young guys were out there on defense against a potent tempo offense. Better days are ahead with the youth on D.

Some of the worst tackling I have ever seen.

The coaches really need to talk to DB's about knocking the ball down instead of trying to catch. We gave up 14 or 21 points because of failure of just knocking it down.

Does Mattison get a pass on this one?
