Buckeyes becoming annoyed?

Wolverine success starting to annoying Buckeyes? Its starting to look that way, at lease with my friend. I got a text from my friend just a bit ago whining and crying about how some Michigan fans that he knows that live by him are starting to chirp about the wolverine success. He didn't tell me what they were saying but must have been some smack talk about how Tate the great is going to bring the buckeyes down this year. Who knows what was said. What i can tell you is that he is a big buckeye fan who hopes for Michigan failure and a 0-12 season every year. My dad taught me to appreciate the rivalry and hope the buckeyes are undefeated, because those buckeye tears will only taste sweeter. I have also kept away from trash talking that some fans do. I have always looked at it like if i trash talk and then my team loses i look like an idiot, so i just don't do it. At the end of our conversation i just finally told him to suck it up because i hear it all the time living in Ohio. There will always be those fans and you just have to ignore them. Its a different culture down here in Ohio. They take things personally and just have to say, "hey calm down guys, its not the end of the world". But i was curious if anyone who has buckeye friends have noticed a new annoyance with them. There seems to be an insecurity with themselves when Michigan is brought up. Any thoughts or stories? Go Blue!

Unfortunately, I think OSU is still better than Michigan. But I think that buckeye fans realize that Tate is as about as good or as good as Pryor and by next year might (should?) be better than him. They know Pryor can't throw.

too many Buckeyes are worried yet, though I suspect they know the day is coming. If Michigan is healthy, I like our chances this year to end the streak more than next year in Columbus. Should be competitive regardless, though. '11, '12 and beyond, I see tables turned. Blue Kool-aid. Maize colored glasses and all that.

I know what you mean. I am best friends with an OSU student, and usually when I respond with witty jokes about OSU, he responds with the facts of the football season. This year, he is coming up with his own jokes, and I keep bringing up the home loss to USC, especially after their loss to UW (I know they didn't have Barkley, but they were still way more talented than U-dub). I still don't quite feel ready to talk yet. I want to wait for the Iowa game. Then I'll fully talk.

They can see it. The Leap. Although they might still be better than us this year (remains to be seen of course), they all know deep down that in 1-2 years we will be destroying them like all the other elite teams from outside the B10. And under a dinosaur like Tressel, they'll be helpless to stop it. It's coming.

I have in-laws and neighbors who are buckeyes. It sucks. My neighbor is more realistic and sees it. He is a more educated fan who knows that the rivalry is cyclical. I didn't have to bring up the 2-10-1 Cooper campaign, he did. The in-laws are what I call Buckeye blind. They only see the last five years. I have to remind them that they could beat us for 10 more years in a row and they still wouldn't overtake us in the entire series. The cycle is about to shift and all the buckeyes around the world are hearing footsteps. They will drop the ball soon. On that day I celebrate!

I think buckeye fans are becoming more annoying (hard to do considering their high starting point). The ones complaining about Tressel (not that this is all of their fans or even a majority, but it seems like a big enough number to be kind of a story) are incredibly irritating. I was talking to a good friend of mine about this (a Colorado alumnus who I've had to talk down off the ledge a number of times since 2002) and he went ape-shit. He had a tough enough time listening to my minor gripes about Carr (his stock response was usually, "At least you guys don't suck at football"), but hearing OSU (and SC fans this past week) complaining about their coaches made him livid. He suggested stripping these people of their fan privileges all together. That being said, they will be even more annoyed when RichRod (very soon) turns the table in the rivalry. I've thought all along that UM would be a lot better at the end of the year than at the beginning (and the Blue have looked pretty good so far) so I'm optimistic about playing the buckeyes at home. Just hope the defense stays healthy enough to slow them down (knocking on Maize&Blue wood as I type this).

OSU fans know they’ve always had a hard time with faster teams that run the spread. (Exactly the type of team Rich Rod wants to build) I think there are a lot of fans from other teams that can see what Michigan might be building and as much as they don’t want to admit it…I think they’re all a little worried.

I spoke with my nephew, an OSU student, back in August. He started at QB at a high school in Cleveland, but had to step away from football because of injuries. However, he is tight with several guys on the OSU team. They are all extremely aware of RR & Michigan. I wouldn't say they're scared, but he was very aware of the improvement, and that UM would be winning games soon.

OSU may have more talent, but RR is already getting more out of the talent UM has than Tressel is out of the talent OSU has. I definitely agree with the poster who said that RR is building the kind of team that regularly beats OSU. Tressel will soon, possibly this season, face the same dilemma as all dinosaurs: adapt or die. It will be interesting to see if Tressel can subjugate his ego like Joe Pa has and let an OC install a spread offense. At the very least, Tressel needs to look at some old BC tapes when they used to roll out Doug Flutie. My guess is that Tressel will refuse to change until he loses to UM again. AFAIC, that means UM gets a "freebie," possibly this year.

Michigan can definitely beat OSU this year. OSU's offense is basically average and lacks playmakers other than Pryor. The OL is decent but not great. The running game, other than Pryor is below average and they lack great WRs. Defensively, the are good, not great... Michigan's offense has shown flashes of brilliance, skill and greatness. If they continue to improve, they will be able to score on OSUs defense. There are too many playmakers to account for, and RR scheme will exploit the weaknesses in the OSU defense. Right now, this game would be a toss-up, if Molk were back and healthy...at home.

I detest OSU as much as anyone, but all this tough internet talk about dethroning the Bucks starting this year before we've played a single tough game in the conference is crazy. We haven't proven a thing yet other than we can beat a team coached by Charlie Weis in our own stadium. If we beat MSU and Iowa then the bravado might be warranted, but not until then.

Inside they fear Michigan. They know Tate is a great player, but they all say "He is overrated". How is a freshmen qb overrated who throws 65% and 1 int? They just do what they do and talk shit. I'm glad we don't got Pryor, can you imagine a MICHIGAN qb saying "Everyone steals, everyone kills people.."

Are we gonna dethrone the Buckeyes this year? i dont know. Are we gonna next year? I would bet on that. Were talking about how this perfect storm is getting ready to hit Buckeye land. Maybe not this year but i would say next most certainly. Right now its building. Michigan is creating something that OSU has been unable to stop. They have seen what Rich did with WVU with a bunch of nobodies and now he is actually getting players. Same what you want about who Michigan has been, they have looked impressive in every win with a true freshman QB. That has to count for something. There is a new sense of life. A sense of blood in Ann Arbor and Tate is leading the way. Not just by his performance but his attitude, "We have to destroy everybody". I think the buckeyes see it getting ready to hit and now they are trying to prevent this, and if they cant, they are shielding themselves from....The Perfect Storm!!!! ok a little cheesy humor but i thought it sounded cool. Go Blue!

i'm hopeful for an upset over osu this year, but won't bet on it...yet. i think our defense will get a little better as the year goes on and gerg(and staff) is able to watch more film and gameplan for the teams we face, before half time of each game. on the flip side, osu will improve a lot over the course of the year. tressel has demonstrated he is a good coach willing to make adjustments in the past. i am witnessing a growing sense of discomfort towards michigan by my cousin, a rabid and dumb buckeye fan. immediately following the freep garbage, he was the type of guy saying things like rich rod should be fired, and richrod was a bad fit for the big ten/michigan. buckeye fans certainly wanted the richrod revolution to be squashed before it had a chance to really get started. too late.

yea i know what you are saying. i live in indiana about 5 minutes away from the ohio border and even though i live closer to ann arbor than columbus.... theres still a ton of annoying buckeye fans in the area and it seems like every single one of them likes to run their mouth. of course when they say anything about michigan i just respond "i love how you guys seem to think that beating up on struggling big ten teams makes you the best team in the nation... then you face someone outside of the conference and get the snot knocked out of you." normally they just get pissed and walk away but when it comes down to it, the Big Ten hasnt been one of the better conferences in the past couple years and osu is just a decent team beating bad teams. but the tides are changing my friends. GO BLUE!!!

Is get in the Buckeyes' heads. New coach, new system, hopefully we keep winning. They have no idea what to expect (other than they probably expect to be able to run the ball against UM). Get in their heads, get a lead, and they'll wilt this year in Ann Arbor. They already have a weak psyche. If health is on our side, this year's game is at least a toss-up.

for everyone. OSU has just landed the No. 1 recruiting class in the country in February, they've won or shared several consecutive Big Ten titles and they're predicted to win or tie for it all again this year. On paper they look to be far more talented than Penn State is, let alone Michigan. Yes, Tressel is a conservative to the eleventy billionth power and Terrell Pryor hasn't yet set the world on fire. But as far as I'm concerned, it's all too early. Michigan has turned things around this season pretty well so far, but RR and the team still have all of their work well ahead of them to prove the army of college football naysayers wrong. I do think this UM team could beat a Penn State and Ohio State this fall if things fell their way, but definitely not the way Michigan has been playing defense the last 3 games. But anything is freaking possible. But yeah, when you escape by a butthair against a service academy at home (Navy) and you can't seal the deal against a Steve Sarkisian offense that has been decapitated (no quarterback, no decent OC) and transformed into a zombie that can't do anything but run around backwards and drop stuff, yeah, I guess I can understand OSU fans feelings some anxiety about now. I say let them whine.

...haven't spoken too much with Buckeye friends (don't have that many, thankfully), but my younger bro went to MSU. We were talking after the CMU debacle he was just ranting: "I hate the spread! That's not football! I miss the old days, the smash-mouth manliness of B10 play, blah blah blah..." Pause. Sigh. "...how do you stop that damn thing, anyway?" It was very hard not to "cackle with knowing glee."

Almost everyone I know is a buckeye fan and most of them still talk shit about Michigan and their 3-9 season but it has definitely been a little more silent in C-Bus these days. Last week I had multiple buckeyes coming up and asking me if Tate was injured and when I said he would be fine they seemed really disappointed. I think a lot of them are scared but they don't want to admit it. The buckeyes are more aware of us now, but even so, I know I'll be hearing about the interception and how we shouldn't have won the game and won out of pure luck.. blah blah blah. We're 4-0... they're not.
