I lived right across the street on Madison for 2 years and took all visitors to Blimpy as a special treat.  My dad used to joke that they "paint the meat on" and it was "cheaper than food".  Sigh.

Sadly, I did process the work order which allowed the electric service to be disconnected, which was the final step towards, well, that. I believe the steel pole in front of it, which was actually my design, is going to be taken away as well if it is not gone already.

Hopefully, they start up again somewhere else - the rumor for a while was somewhere on William, I think, but obviously nothing came of it.

They were a choice customer for a time. It took a lot of marketing savvy to get them back. When I was a designer in the field, I used to be at the planning meetings a lot and the parts of the university that we do service (the power plant still has some of it) add up to about a $7 million bill each year, as I recall.

...that the University is turning into a cancer that's destroying Ann Arbor.

If only Blimpy was being displaced by a Dominos Pizza, then we could all blame Dave Brandon!

Ann Arbor is being overrun by corporate establishments and the University's endless growth.  There is now a 7-11 on State Street!

They actually had to threaten imminent domain to push the negotiations along. (And some of the other properties were owned by....Bill Martin). Blimpy's locale the widow just took a big sum of money we all probably would have and sold it. She had been giving Blimpy's a rent break for the area for awhile, so you can't really blame her.

It'll all be put and set up like this-
