OT: Clowney sits. Spurrier calls him out.
Clowney told his coaches last minute that he was too sore to play. Spurrier's response - If Clowney "wants to play, we will welcome him to come play for the team if he wants," Spurrier said. "But he if doesn't want to play, he doesn't have to play. Simple as that."

Spurrier is a jerk. Either the kid is hurt and and he should stop injuring his reputation or he doesn't want to play in which case he should keep the dirty laundry in the locker room. College students should not be disciplined in the media.

As I suggested above - the press has hounded Spurrier about Clowney all season. Spurrier answered the question openly and honestly with patience.
The simple fact is Clowney didn't feel ready to play, and Spurrier said as much. Clearly Clowney will need to answer to future employers later.

Carolina will be better by subtraction after Clowney leaves the team for the pros. Ego and fame has definitely gone to his head.

Well he can get cut if he dogs it in the NFL and lose a lot of non-guaranteed money. Good incentive there. The guy's a #1 pick and any team that passes up on him for anyone other than a prospect equal to Andrew Luck is dumb.

Aaron Murray (Georgia QB) is looking pretty good.

Bruised ribs is like severe headaches....can't prove they have it and can't prove they don't.
Unless of course he was playing a pick up game of flag football Friday.

What happened to him was Taylor Lewan. He hasn't been the same since the Outback Bowl. By his own admission Lewan was the best tackle he faced and despite the widely publicized "hit' he did next to nothing in that game.
First time his confidence took a major hit and it's in his head.

I hate Spurrie's southern drawl.

I would take Spurrier's side, but the man seems to take calling out his players as a coaching tactic.

Clowney has just been one major disappointment this year so far. He was supposed to come in and probably have 20 sacks by now. Maybe he really is hurt, maybe he isn't, but this isn't looking too good as far as draft scouts are concerned. I'm sure he's getting double, and maybe in some cases, triple-teamed, so that hurts his stat chart a little bit. But still, he should be dominating his competition.
He'll still go high up in the draft based solely on his potential, but at this rate, he can probably kiss the first overall pick good bye. And if he doesn't produce much else this season, he can probably kiss first-round status good bye as well.

I remember how they benefited from hyping the guy up a ton and now are benefiting from his demise.
