Friday NCAAFB Mizzou vs Nevada Open Thread
While we drink, we've got football on tonight. Missouri is at Nevada, I'm seeing lines around Mizzou -7.5 with a O/U at 61.5.
General discussion goes here. I don't see anything going out of the normal here. Pistol could be interesting to watch though.

the number seems a little low, I would have expected at least -10. Nevada has not looked good against ND or CSU. They have moved the ball this year, but have a terrible turnover margin (-8, as in 8 giveaways/no takeaways)

Before there was the Space Emperor, there was Pat Brady. According to Wikipedia:
"Nevada's Pat Brady holds the record for the longest punt in college football history with his 99-yard punt against Loyola Marymount on October 28, 1950. It is a record that can only be matched, not broken."
Therefore I predict that when next called upon to punt (probably in the PSU game) Zoltan will boom a 3596 inch punt to prove a point.

I wonder how long it rolled for.

I'm mostly interested in checking out Nevada's Pistol Offense. I know from the various game previews that Indiana and Nevada's pistol will vary because of the quarterback play but I'm still interested in seeing it. Hopefully someone who knows X's and O's (and isn't drinking too heavily) can compare them to what we might see from Indiana tomorrow.

not drinking...However, UN's QB is considered to be a pretty good dual threat QB. From what I have seen of IU, which is limited, they don't have the same skill set at QB. In fairness, UN has not been effective this year on offense. They have been offensive. They were shut out by ND and scored two garbage TD's against Colorado State to make the score somewhat respectable at 35-20.

Indiana's pistol is designed to create more downhill running for the backs. Nevada's is similar, but add in the running/option threat of QB Colin Kaepernick. Last year they scored in bunches but haven't fared as well this year, offensive line has been mediocre.

I love that Joe Tessitore is doing CFB this year. He's one of my favorite announcers, mostly because of boxing and EA Fight Night.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:04 PM ^
Is it just me, or are the mini hawks more prevalent this year? Michael Floyd looked to be sporting one ... I've seen a couple other cats with them ... Even the dude who just muffed the punt has one. that's it. I'm going to my barber tomorrow.

split a series with the Wolfpack, losing in 2006 and squeaking by in 2007. I know that the NU defense is seldom stout, but the Wildcat with their last QB, Graziano I think his name was, gave us fits. Kaepernick seemed like the real deal until ND shut them down.
Also, Missouri beat Northwestern in a OT heartbreaker last year. I can't decide who I want to lose.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:15 PM ^
I'd say root for Nevada. The Big 12 being overrated is a meme I can live with.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:22 PM ^
is a sound argument. Go Pack, I guess.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:12 PM ^
Somewhat ugly so far. But the Nevada defense looks like a WAC defense, cooked up according to the mantra "we can score at will against 75% of the schedule, so all you need to do is slow them down"
September 25th, 2009 at 9:20 PM ^
Hey FA, not that I'm particularly curious what you're doing right now or anything, ahem, but the twitter link in your sig is broken.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:21 PM ^
Also, only one and you're buzzed? Man up.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:25 PM ^
Hence the need for food. I haven't eaten since breakfast at 9:30am. Feeling much better now.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:36 PM ^
Not eating before drinking has made for the some of the worst nights of my life. And also, according to everyone else, some of the most hilarious. Not that I'd do it unless you want a two day hangover.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:02 PM ^
Interestingly, not drinking before drinking is like that for me. Mmmm...booze.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:22 PM ^
I'm drunk and trying to sweep smoke out of the house. So that's what I'm doing.
I'll work on the link. Thanks for the tip.

Some people in the Big House should get together and do this:

Does anyone else think that it would be amazing?
September 25th, 2009 at 9:31 PM ^
but do you know how many Koreans died in the making of Jumbotron the Human Experiment?
September 25th, 2009 at 9:26 PM ^
And 3 TOs on the drive... this could end well.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:33 PM ^
"And he just levels Perry. What a hit!"
But hey, thanks, let's not show it again.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:41 PM ^
"Joe and Rod Storm the Dorm"
Alright, no way that isn't a gay porn.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:48 PM ^
isn't he a Texas de-commit?
He is huge - his last scramble reminded me of a svelte Jared Lorezon
September 25th, 2009 at 9:56 PM ^
Mizzou, if I recall. In-state kid. I vaguely remember some kind of Elite 11 show and thinking he was committed to Mizzou at that point.
He is a large young man. True dat. Hasn't look all that sharp throwing the ball tonight, tho.
Always liked the "Hefty Lefty" moniker for Lorenzen.
September 26th, 2009 at 12:22 AM ^
He was a Nebraska de-commit.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:04 PM ^
great, I'm impressed with their defense - looks much different than against ND.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:08 PM ^
but is it just me or does Nevada's QB seem a little bit... gritty?
September 25th, 2009 at 10:11 PM ^
Def. gritty, but also looks like he got left out in the sun during the summer, and then covered with tattoos, to confuse you.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:13 PM ^
Yeah, good call on the QB. I meant the RB. The gritty one.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:15 PM ^
Lippencott? He's even grittier than we usually mean when we grant players that honorable distinction; I think he's a sixth year (redshirt + medical hardship) senior, backing up a real bruiser (who looks like he got a real bruise on his elbow in the first quarter).
September 25th, 2009 at 10:18 PM ^
even made a special teams tackle - that is true grit.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:15 PM ^
Wow, good play on the run.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:16 PM ^
decision on the two point conversion.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:16 PM ^
is gigantic - don't like the call to go for 2 - no need to go for it there there is 32 minutes of game left, and they just cost themselves a point.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:19 PM ^
kid - what a great throw.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:45 PM ^
That was impressive clock management at the end of the half.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:49 PM ^
return by Nevada - short field for the offense.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:57 PM ^
Woo boy, fun run to watch.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:58 PM ^
run - but Gilmore is right - I hate the call to go for two
Mizzou cost themselves a point by going for two earlier - Nevada should have just kicked it there and they would have been +1 in not making stupid decisions, now both teams have made one major tactical blunder.
September 25th, 2009 at 11:02 PM ^
Mizzou gonna go for two again - lol why?
September 25th, 2009 at 11:17 PM ^
See, there are ways to keep a shootout exciting, without making it look like NCAA 10. Nevada's doing its part, on that front.
But Gabbert is just chucking bombs. booo
September 25th, 2009 at 11:18 PM ^
Anyone else thinking that Gabbert throwing those up in Big 12 play might just lead to a few interceptions?
September 25th, 2009 at 11:31 PM ^
For real. Try that against the Texas, Oklahoma, or TT secondaries, where the athleticism is (especially in the former two cases) roughly comparable, and you're going to be in trouble. Do that against Nebraska, you'll cede the North.
September 25th, 2009 at 11:19 PM ^
and this is a lot closer than I thought. Based on the ND and Illinois scores I for sure thought that this would be 3 TD's by now. Is Nevada looking better or does Mizzou look anemic?
September 25th, 2009 at 11:22 PM ^
was looking really good - the D held strong keeping the last drive our of the endzone.
September 25th, 2009 at 11:34 PM ^
he was not gritty enough to hang on to the football
Huge break for Mizzou.
September 25th, 2009 at 11:46 PM ^
Mizzou is lucky to have this kind of lead. Nevada should be tied right now.
September 25th, 2009 at 11:48 PM ^
you in this game.
September 25th, 2009 at 11:51 PM ^
A bad way for this game to end though. Both were somewhat able to move the ball and now Nevada has got all the momentum against them. Bah to that.
