Do you disagree with this? If so, why?

The introduction of points on MGoBoard was, in my humble opinion, a catastrophe for all but a chosen few. The point system rewarded early joiners who posted frequently. These posters were all able to circle jerk each other to point totals of epic proportions, which enabled them essentially to control the destiny of new or infrequent posters. Negative points were not awarded for the reasons listed in the MGoBoard FAQ (i.e., being redundant, using stupid nicknames, spelling things incorrectly, or posting useless replies), but for merely posting material with which the established posters disagreed. Posters lacking in MGoBoard points were thus discouraged from voicing their true opinions, and, instead, encouraged to preach to the choir. What began as an effort to deter trolls and establish rules for new posters devolved into a Lord of the Flies-esque state of affairs. Those who held the "conch" (i.e., had lots of MGoPoints) were able to dictate the character and tone of conversation; those without the "conch" were subjected to the tyranny of the MGoBoard elder statesmen. Face it, MGoBoarders: you won't agree with everyone on here. That doesn't mean those you disagree with deserve to be negbanged. I've been a Michigan fan for all twenty-five years of my life. I spent seven years as a student in Ann Arbor (undergrad and law), and I've disagreed with Brian--and posters here--on numerous occasions. But does my disagreement mean I should be negbanged or barred from posting an original threads on this site? I would hope not. The point to to "senior" posters here is clear: get over yourselves. Your ridiculous point totals don't establish you as more worthy or more knowledgeable than any other poster on this board.

I don't neg people who disagree with me. I neg people for the reasons posted in the FAQ or if their posts are filled with factual errors or errors in logic. For example, a post that says "Denard should start at quarterback because ______________________" isn't neggable. On the other hand, a post prior to the season that says "I told you IT'S ALL ABOUT DENARD" is highly neggable. And this is coming from someone who gets negged all the time for people who don't like my opinion. For the most part, I usually have my facts straight and I know a fair amount about Michigan football, recruiting, etc., but because people don't like me, they neg me, anyway. It used to piss me off, but it really doesn't matter to me anymore.

People who negbang simply because they disagree with an opinion should be Pink Slipped. See, I liked those Diaries even if I disagreed with some of what was written sometimes. But, seriously you would have undergone a weekly Sunday negbang had this system been in place a year ago. You would have been buried and that would have been wrong. I usually up vote on principle if I feel somebody has been negged merely for having an opinion. Good to see others share the same sentiment.

...when it's deserved (i.e., highly inflammatory/trollish/etc). I kind of wish they ended with a Sandman-type character coming out to police sirens, doing a little tap dance, and escorting the negee of the internet for a bit (shame on you if you've never seen Showtime at the Apollo). That said, I find far too many posts/replies on here that get negged for reasons- in my opinion- that are outside the scope of what Brian created the down arrow for. All I do is +1 posters that were unjustly negged. I'm not going to make a big deal out of it- I'm not trying to be the positive police- but I think its a way to reduce the chance that we alienate people who primarily come here because they love Michigan sports.

I asked about the sphincter that barks and looks like a red revolutionary and now have one point. I am a moron who posted a stupid topic (not sarcastic, really) and got beat up for it...point system seems to be working as advertised.

Yeah . . . I would have surely been negbanged for those Pink Slips diaries. The funny thing is that I basically do the same thing on my blog now, but instead of saying "This guy should lose his job," I say "Let's see less of ______________ on offense/defense." And nobody's said anything negative. I guess people couldn't get past the words PINK and SLIP. I also +1 people who get unfairly negged. I consider it my cyberspace good deed of the day.

R_Mahorn is negged fairly. That guy is clueless, a troll, or both. I actually agree with King of Belch quite often. He's crude about things, but I usually agree with his opinion. But who's bouje? I've never heard of you before.

The point system keeps us from descending down into the true depths of hell like the Freep message boards. I'll take crushing Piggy with a boulder any day.

My self esteem is relative to my point total as you can read below.... When I was 0 - 100: life was a cold and bleak place. 100 - 200: I began to have feeling in my limbs, I could taste food, and my sense of smell returned. 200-300: I began to crawl. I developed opposable thumbs. 300-400: Lost my virginity. 400-500: I made my first million, I buy and sell companys on a daily basis. 500-600: I sang soprano in a opera, I have many leather bound books. 600+ People know me....I am very important.

I don't get why people give 2 shits about points. Except for the 20 minimum to post, which is now gone, they don't matter at all. I do agree that the points are stupid though. It just results in people whining in a fresh post every time someone negs one of their earlier ones. Why not just institute a 20 post minimum before new threads can be created and leave it at that?

You work your life away reaching, grasping for the 20 point threshold, one false step and you are doomed, and when you finally reach it you find the GD MF SOB'S. eliminate it. Life is too cruel

First of all, it doesn't reward early joiners, as we all started with zero points on the exact same day (which was like a month or two ago)
FWIW, The date was June 19, so just over 3 months. And to put things in perspective, look at someone like mommatheregoesthatman. He's 5th in points and didn't join until June 30th. So it's not about collective minds, it's about presentation. Misopogon is another example as his points blew up a few weeks after the points system for his awesome research diaries. That doesn't just come from the people who have been on the board forever. I offer enough dissenting opinions, but I present them with a half way logical reason attached. If you do that, points aren't a problem. Honestly, I'm embarrassed I'm so high on the mgopoints list. It makes me want to start a thread on why we shouldn't have to wait 3 years of this RR campaign to get a national championship and a heisman winner. I could use an epic negbang.

I really don't worry about anything I post or all the point things. If I have something goofy on my mind I post it. Like the other day I got 40pts for saying that some dudes play he made in MS Paint looked like a Gypsy. Was I hoping for points? no. I just think people dig off the wall humor around here or dry humor so I happen to fit in. I like the people here and people like me. The points don't mean anything. I think the OP maybe putting to much into it. Just enjoy the content of the site.

I don't feel that I have to read this and respond because I have a lot of points which I got through a mutual masturbation session with all other people with many points. However, I will descend from my throne built from the tears of the negbanged masses and provide my response anyway. Consider yourself lucky. Maybe the people with a lot of points actually contribute to the board on a regular basis. I contribute less football information than many other posters because I've never played/coached, but clearly at some point people liked my posts enough to up-vote me. How does this imply that I negbang everyone with a low point total? I up vote when someone says something funny, insightful, or obviously true. I down vote when someone says something inflammatory or stupid. I never down vote when someone says something I disagree with if it is expressed clearly, humorously, and not in an argumentative way. Get off your high horse. Try posting something interesting or funny so you can get in on the points party.

I plan on cashing my points in for beer. Brian told me that once you get to 500 points you get Milwaukee's Best Light instead of Blatz. That gives me a goal to shoot towards.

Although I am not the most established user -- verily, I only recently acquired TRUSTED status! -- I am a negger on a power trip. Yes. Sometimes, someone will post a completely rational, innocent, and unassuming message. AND I NEG IT! For no reason at all. Just to be ironic... no! To be a complete douche! Yes. Can you see it? Here's your post: "I thought Tate Forcier's presence in the pocket was impressive for a freshman. I look forward to seeing him develop. Think of the possibilities!" NEG NEG NEG NEG NEG NEG!!! I have a veritable army of profiles with which I neg the unlucky saps into oblivion. Because the points matter so much, this is why I am drunk with power. It's not like you can have -250 and continue to post. Also, gaining vast sums of points gives you special, new abilities that give you more control over others' points. I am waiting to hit the 1,000 mark, upon which --it is rumored-- one is handed a condom and a goat. Do as you will.

My comments frequently get negged as well. I have chosen to follow the bouje model of success: perseverence and posting comments faster than they can get negged. In all honesty, though, bouje is a good poster, but also seems to be the type of guy that is fun to tease (I've been there before).

Does it really matter how many points you have. As long as you have 20 point then it should matter to people. and there was somone on here that somehow got over 1 million points in one night, his names bjoule you should ask him how he did it if your that into points.

That's tough to do. It requires getting negbanged so bad that the owner of the site takes pity on you and gives you eleventy billion points just to mess with people. Something tells me the OP wouldn't handle the original, necessary negbang very well. He should just stick to posting things not about the point system. The point system is essentially a game. People shouldn't take it too seriously.

i furiously masturbate to my point total every night and cut myself when i get negged. i also run a secret MGOPOINTS CLUB that meets thursdays in the alley behind the jackson wal-mart. we pick lice off each other and hold a meeting to determine which lucky poster will receive the mgofreemasons bump of honor or neggbang

the definition of you as a human being. Less points means you are like dog shiat. More points are like you are driving a Vette and your trust fund is fat. You can make fun of people who have less points, but have to submit to people who have more points. Its the point system. Deal with it. Otherwise, the turrurists have really won.

about MGoPoints whenever you post? I see exactly how you get points you just wait until the weekly "I don't have points I'm worthless as a human being we need to go back to the mlive forum model" and then just say "it's all about the sig" and then you get up-banged (full disclosure I banged and I banged hard). I see what you did there!
