OT: Report: Nate Burleson Breaks Arm in Car Accident

Submitted by MGoVoldemort on

I was listening to 89x this morning, and they are reporting that Lions WR Nate Burleson broke his arm in two places in a one car accident.

Edit: It was confirmed by the Lions

That's unfortunate, but at least it's only a broken arm.  Reggie Brown suffered a neck injury, almost dying on the field; surgery prevented paralysis, but his football career was over.  Mike Utley suffered a broken neck and paralysis.  Eric Andolsek was working in his front yard when a truck ran off the road and killed him.

Talk about bring back a memory - I was AT that game with my late father.  He was a Dr and Hughes went down right in front of us (we were sitting in the lower deck of Tiger Stadium on about the 35) and he never moved.  I remember Mel Farr stepped over Hughes to get back to the huddle while Dick Butkis was going nuts motioning to the Lions bench to get somebody out on the field. And all the while my dad kept saying was "he's not moving at all - something's really wrong with him".

It wasnt until we got home that I found out he had died.

I'm 54 and I've seen exactly ONE playoff win during those years.  The only thing about this news that doesnt surprise me is that Johnson, Suh & Stafford weren't in the car that hit his and also injured.

At some point this season if the Lions are doing too well, all three of those guys plus Reggie Bush will be in separate cars and all hit each other at the same four-way intersection.  It'll be like that one commercial where the lady gets hit by four student drivers at once, except it'll be at like Telegraph and 8 Mile.

I grew up my whole childhood in Michigan, never seeing a Lions playoff victory. A few years ago I moved to Indiana, just in time for Peyton to go down and the Colts to enter the Andrew Luck sweepstakes. Now I live near Cleveland, who, despite winning Sunday, traded away one of their two good players (Joe Thomas being the remaining good player).

At this point, as far as pro teams, I think it's me. If people are willing to pay me, I'll gladly move to Dallas to help the cause.

But then had a friend have the audacity to have a Fall wedding, which will not only interfere with this Fall Saturday for them, but future Fall Saturday's for years to come.

Let this be a lesson to people, good things never happen from getting married in the Fall, any other season is perfectly acceptable though.

But if I ever make it to a Browns game I'll make sure to let you know. I'm hoping to eventually, just need to find the time/resources.

I was really liking this 2-1 start overall....

Hopefully, Burleson's recovery is full and expeditious. Per ESPN - here - it happened around 2:25 AM this morning in Farmington Hills. No ticket was issued.

I saw the thread title, and I thought that maybe Nate Burleson was a basketball recruit.  Shows you how much attention I pay to the NFL, including the Detroit franchise.

I'm guessing I might have known who he was, if he had played for Illinois, or Iowa or even Georgia or Georgia Tech.  So I looked him up and found out he was born in Calgary, Alberta and went to college at Nevada.

Sorry for the "lol."  Hope his arm gets better and that his career as a professional football player is a success.

this guy has seriously ripped off the Fords and the entire Lion's Franchise. Dude has been hurt for all but a few games since he signed. I hope there is a clause indicating injuries incurred off the field do not allow for pay. Other than that I hope he gets better soon.

Way to change your argument when you're proven wrong.

Guy is a class act, great contributor back into the community.  He was driving home after watching MNF with friends and taking back some leftover pizza - something i'm sure we've all done before.  The police found no reason to suspect he was under any influence, so why are you out for him?  I can predict your next argument - that the cops are under pro athletes thumbs so he got off easy.....tell that to Miguel Cabrera or any of the other star athletes who have not gotten special treatment in metro Detroit.

Your vendetta is tiresome.

It's one thing to exaggerate (though it makes your original point sound weaker) but, it's completely another to be totally wrong and accuse people of driving high when police ruled out he wasn't driving under the influence. So lets not jump to conclusions next time...
