uconn destroyed by Maryland

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

Maryland just got done wrecking uconn on the road.

The score of 32-21 isn't as close as it looked. There was a safety and a garbage uconn TD in the 4th quarter.

uconn falls to 0-2 with their other loss being to FCS Towson in another blowout loss at home.

I went over to TeamRankings to get the Maryland / UConn comparison, and for some reason, the site has not bothered much with AAC team stats so far this year (one can only imagine why).

So, here's some summary stuff for Maryland (avg / FBS rank):

UMD Offense
Value (rank) UMD Defense Value (rank)
Points/Game 43.0 (#19) Opp Points/Game 10.0 (#7)
Yards/Game 576.0 (#9) Opp Yards/Game 171.0 (#1)
Points/Play 0.589 (#17) Opp Points/Play 0.149 (#10)
Yards/Play 7.9 (#7) Opp Yards/Play 2.6 (#2)
3D Conversion % 30.77% (#84) Opp 3D Conv % 23.53% (#16)
4D Conversion % -- (#72) Opp 4D Conv % 33.33% (#36)
RZ Scoring % 100.00% (#1) Opp RZ Scoring % 100.00% (#65)

I think I remember reading that Team Rankings doesn't count FCS games in their rankings for FBS schools.

There it is in the top corner of the conference power rankings -

NOTE: The stats on this page include data ONLY from games involving two FBS schools.

Now I'm going to go look at the AAC games and see how many were actually FBS v FBS, which could be contributing to the lack of rankings.

I saw the game and don't think I would quite categorize it as destruction, though MD did pull away.  The question is whether UConn is better or worse than Akron.  The most obvious thing seems to be UConn doesn't have any offense, at least so far.  If we play well it won't matter and we'll be 4-0, and happy I hope.

Of course they're better than akron, there are multiple FCS teams that are better than akron. I'm not afraid of akron though.

The coaches are going to make this week of practice one for the ages and I think the players are aware of it. They should be pissed off and want to tear uconn's head off next weekend.

I'll say this for Akron - the quarterback was pretty damn accurate.  No excuse for having those receivers running so open, especially deep, but give him credit for hitting them.

I live in CT so see most of UConn's games.  What concerns me is they haven't shown much of anything yet but they should have been better than this. Michigan has to jump on them early and keep the pedal down before they can get any kind of confidence or this could be another stressful few hours.

Up at least 45 points on these guys and hold them to 17 points we are seriously in for a LONG SECOND HALF OF THE SEASON! I will be watching. They need to let Green in the game for a series or two per game.
