Upcoming FB recruiting visits
It looks like some big names will be coming to campus including Sharriff Floyd and Josh Shaw according to GBW. It seems the 3-0 start has started to perk up interest with the higher rated guys. I just wish the staff would go after Jeff Luc hard as we need a MLB bad.

How do you know the staff isn't going hard after Luc?
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:30 AM ^
especially after we were dropped from his list. According to Luc's brother the staff just stopped calling him so he dropped us.

They probably wouldn't want the top LB prospect. They probably just sent him a letter and waited to hear back. Come on. They go hard after their top targets until the kid says eh, then they shift their priorities. There are only so many hours in a day.

Just because you go after a kid hard doesn't mean they will show you any interest.
I'm sure the staff is doing their best, plus there always seems to be one or two surprise commits near the end or guys who really weren't on our radar and suddenly commit - IE Quinton Washington, Denard Robinson or Roy Roundtree.

We were in it for Q for months, It was between us and Florida for DRob and he wanted a chance to play QB, Roundtree came because of the change of offensive scheme and would not have even considered if Lloyd had stayed.

A better example would be someone like Ricky Barnum.

Fine time to bring in big namers... IU! Wooo Party! The big house remains big though, even when we do play "basketball school with a football team" U. Won't be the same as the ND atmosphere though unfortunately...

I could read the link before I comment, but you know, busy busy and shit.

But it's not likely you get a SURPRISE commit from a 5* top 10 player in the country. Those usually have their schools narrowed down to 1-2 schools when the time to committing happens. Only exception may be if the school they chose fired a coach.

I think Michigan is in a somewhat tough position with the official visitors. They probably want to bring a good number of guys on to campus early in the season, especially the recruits from Florida, before it gets cold. However, the only early season game that brings a lot of energy to the stadium is the Notre Dame game. Any players who couldn't make it to that game have to come to a game like Indiana, or wait until PSU and OSU by which time the weather may be significantly less friendly.
Before I get neg-bombed, I see the argument that we only want guys who are willing to live in the cold, etc. However, we still want people to see the campus in the most positive light possible. I submit that the campus is not as inviting in mid-November.

Sharriff Floyd, set an official visit to michigan, I thought we were off his list!??????
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:17 AM ^
but the sept. 22nd story on rivals says floyd's 5 official visits will be florida (last week) USC, Penn State, North Carolina and South Carolina. He is quoted as saying that if he is not ready at that point he'll make unofficials to ohio state and michigan. seems like a long shot.

would I love to see Shariff in Maize and Blue! If we can pick up 2 solid corners a solid LB and a DT I will be very happy with this class! I've kind of felt apathetic about a lot of our offensive guys mainly because they've been committed for a while. Nice thing now though is we have pretty solid depth at WR and RB so most of those recruits should be able to redshirt.

in Courtney Avery, another in the Talbott kid, and maybe Adrian Witty in January.
On top of that, maybe Christian?
That's a decent haul.
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:25 AM ^
I'm not big on Avery or Talbott. I like Witty, but with him having failed to qualify already, I wonder if he can get/stay eligible. None of those guys is very highly rated.
Christian is higher rated, on the other hand. I just think he'd be a better fit at safety.

I agree not very high on any of them, we need to close on christian, rashad knight, grimes , and ifill. I am not gonna be unrealistic and say we need latwan anderson or anything, I just would like to see some higher rated prospects as a whole

I should have said 2 solid DB's not just corners. From Brian and the various scouting sites it seems like we have a pretty legitimate shot at a few corners and safeties. I would definitely like Christian and another either corner or safety. I think Scout had a hidden article yesterday or two days ago saying we were in the race for Johnavon Fulton. Tony Grimes has mentioned us a few times. We should be in the top 2 for Ifill. I can't remember the names but I think there were a couple DB's (Sean Parker and Dietrich Rieley maybe?)as well as Shaw from Cali that were at least talking about taking officials as well.

out of AZ. Marquis is #13 safety according to Scout, #7 athlete on Rivals and ESPN rates him a 78 calling him a physically imposing safety/hybrid LB.
