2014 SF Trevon Bluiett to UCLA
LINK to 247 page.
Sucks to lose him, looked like a good player that was high on Michigan. On to the next.
EDIT: Changed title to 2014 to reflect proper year. Had 2015 previously, thus some of the comments below.

Oh well. We'll get somebody else.
September 2nd, 2013 at 9:11 PM ^
Who exactly are we still in on in the '14 class?
I must admit I can't figure out why we aren't landing any of these high profile kids having just come off of a trip to the National Championship.

doesn't take place until 2016 recruiting class. Most of the work are usually done at 14 and 15 class.

'14 class wouldn't see much though. Certainly '16 you're probably hitting your peak, after that it becomes too distant and too "what have you done for me lately".

what I mean. Michigan are in with a lot of elite prospects like Swanigan, Thornton, Winston, Gordon, Towns, and Battle.
I do agree that there will be some effect for 2015 class. Hopefully, Michigan can follow up with another Sweet 16 or Elite 8 appearance to strengthen their recruiting further.

eh we blew it. on to the next one

Clearly Beilein made a huge mistake not hiring the kid's HS coach. /s
UCLA wasn't anywhere on that kid's top 5-10 list until they hired his HS coach. Beilein didn't blow it, he just didn't compromise his coaching tree to pick up one kid.
Forest>tree.

You don't think the career trajectories of Shabazz Muhammed and Kenny Anderson were the primary reason for this committment?

I agree that Beilein didn't blow it. But don't you think there's another reason the poster said he blew it?
Maybe Coach B didn't blow it. Maybe Trevon blew it.
September 2nd, 2013 at 8:14 PM ^
Very punny.
September 2nd, 2013 at 5:03 PM ^
he would have been a heckuva player here
September 2nd, 2013 at 5:17 PM ^
Not too bummed. I'm sure he'll be a good college player but He doesn't have the bounce that some of the other 2014 guys have. I want kameron chapman and Jonah bolden. Two future NBAers there.
September 2nd, 2013 at 5:19 PM ^
Beilein is losing players - I wonder if the perception that he is a system coach is deterring a lot of these recrutis.
September 2nd, 2013 at 5:22 PM ^
I think in reagrds to the 2014 class he's going after a slightly different class of recruits and while I think he wanted Bluiett, I think the focus is more on Booker and a few other players, whereas I think Lavin put the full court press on Bluiett the moment he was hired by UCLA. Sometimes you just get beat, don' think I'd read anything into it.
September 2nd, 2013 at 7:51 PM ^
They hired Lavin back for a second....

Whoops Alford is what I meant, thanks for the catch. Still: slicked hair, sleaze-ball vibe, questionable coaching acumen, I actually remain to be convinced they're not the same person.
September 2nd, 2013 at 10:45 PM ^
I had forgotten they had hired Alford, so I was like "Wait, what...?"
September 2nd, 2013 at 7:19 PM ^
WHO CARES ABOUT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES AND NBA DRAFTS!! I WUNT MOAR NOT HIS SISTUMS!!!!!
But seriously, don't think thats true at all. Maybe 3 years ago.

Love this kids game. Reminds me of Carmelo
September 3rd, 2013 at 1:28 AM ^
He's know where near the talent Carmelo was coming out of high school. He's a very good player but he is not an elite athlete. He's more of a perimeter spot up shooter which is why I would have loved him in our system.
September 2nd, 2013 at 5:21 PM ^
UCLA hired his coach right? Hard to overcome that.
September 2nd, 2013 at 6:46 PM ^
something like that if I recall.
September 2nd, 2013 at 5:23 PM ^
Have fun playing for Steve Alford....until he gets fired in a few seasons.
September 2nd, 2013 at 5:25 PM ^
Hard to get upset with this stuff during football season.
September 2nd, 2013 at 5:26 PM ^
I wasn't readdyyyyy
September 2nd, 2013 at 5:58 PM ^
So where does this put us in terms of potential prospects? Devin Booker or bust??
September 2nd, 2013 at 6:09 PM ^
a bunch of quality "stretch 4's" they are still in on. Hopefully we can get 1 of Booker/Blackmon and 1 of the stretch 4's and then it's on to 2015
September 2nd, 2013 at 6:13 PM ^
Would love to "steal" Blackmon from IU (though he decommitted).
September 2nd, 2013 at 6:20 PM ^
Frustrating but it happens. Good luck to him. I'm hoping we do get Blackmon.
September 2nd, 2013 at 8:39 PM ^
We hired Watson and got Rose.. Hiring hs or aau coaches is kinda odd IMO
September 2nd, 2013 at 8:44 PM ^
Even if everything goes as expected with GRIII playing in the NBA in 2014, we'll still be stacked (and experienced) at the swing position. That probably weighed a bunch in Blueitt's decision, as he obviously picked the school where he'll have less to show the coaching staff to be able to get minutes right off the bat. A combo foward with more size is a bigger need for our 2014 class anyway (if I could get my pick of any one of our targets to commit to UM, I'd pick Devin Robinson).
September 2nd, 2013 at 8:51 PM ^
You win some, you lose some. I have faith the coaching staff will still bring in good kids for the program and the school.
September 2nd, 2013 at 9:43 PM ^
Beilein is in the running for a lot of eliteish prospects, but every time one goes elsewhere it increases the chance we'll end up with a plan b guy...Which...They tend to either turn out great(Spike, Caris, etc) or transfer. Basically it seems even odds we eventually get a similar or better player with that ship anyway.
September 2nd, 2013 at 11:14 PM ^
Start recruiting for basketball too? We need their finishing prowess.
September 3rd, 2013 at 9:34 AM ^
It's too bad. I liked Bluiett more than Booker by a smidge. But hope we get the latter or Chatman or Blackmon now.
