College Football Open Thread Night 2

Can't live up to last night, but it's football. Please if MSU goes down 3-0 to Western let's not act like they're not going to win by multiple touchdowns. Also Texas Tech-SMU, Florida Atlantic-Miami (YTM), N. Dakota St-KSU (maybe good?), N. Arizona-Arizona, and Morgan St-Army already underway.

MSU's defense is going to have problems this year too. They can't get pressure on WMU with four. They are blitzing every play and leaving a lot of open space in the secondary. A team with a decent QB and an okay set of receivers could hang 30 on them--which is basically an insurmountable deficit for these guys.

I'm selling MSU big time.

Against a team that went 4-8 last year.

And it's not like this offense was any good, and that defense was competent but definitely has lost talent.

But given your posting history, I'm not surprised you are being contradictory.

I know, but WMU is coming off a pretty bad season and a coaching transition.

The defense won't be terrible at all. They just aren't going to be a top-10 type defense. They had a really great group of players that's slowly disappearing due to graduation and the guys coming in are fine, but they're not on the same level. MSU simply isn't recruiting well enough to keep the talent level up.

Just got home from work, time to sit down and pray my alma mater can this one off. Row the boat!

EDIT: Can anyone inform me on what happened to Van Tubbergen?? I was pretty excited to see if he could indeed be an improvement over Carder, like he was last year

People tend to leave during thunderstorms. Something about not being around a tall, metal structure.

Michigan Stadium emptied out against WMU in Hoke's first game when the thunderstorms rolled in.
