Game Day Menus/drinks/traditions/general hullabaloo

Submitted by MGJS SuperKick Party on

Night before the first game - I feel like a kid before Christmas!

What does everyone do for the first game of the season? Do you have any specific traditions/clothing/food that you always have to do for the first game?

What is on your menu? What are you drinking tomorrow?

I dont have very many traditions - I do try to drink a new beer with my tailgate before every game, so tomorrow I have a nice bottle of the Bruery's Tart of Darkness in the fridge, and we are having finger foods and dips - should be a nice way to start off the season. I am excited to get out and toss the pigskin around and catch up with people I havent seen in awhile. I will be wearing a Seatle Pilots hat, so keep an eye out for me.

I'm too excited right now, its almost unbearable. Go Blue and Stay Hydrated in the heat!

Seafood boil for our tailgate. Shrimp, sausage, corn, red potatoes, garlic, onion and lemon dumped in a huge pot of spices and sodium. I'll wash it down with 7-8 Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfests.

Commence caloric intake. Can't wait!

It's the best day of the year. I'll be there with my son. It's our fourth opener in a row. The last two have been stressful (storm of death) and depressing (jerryworld, countess injury)so we're excited to get back on track. It's going to be a great year. Go blue!

Right before the game I will be finishing my bacon, sausage, eggs, and hash browns. After our victory I will be grilling salmon and eating Caesar salad potatoes and garlic bread.

Last year was half Blue Moon and half Mikes Hard lemonade. Year before was half Guiness and half pear cider. This year I'll be mixing Kona Big Wave Golden Ale and Angry Orchard Dry Cider. Wings and queso during the game big ole ribeye with potatoes and salad after the game with a bottle of Oban scotch that I have been waiting till now to open. God I love Michigan football. Go Blue!

The only real gameday tradition I have is that I will start the morning with a mimosa after coffee and breakfast to wind down a bit and get into a good mindset for the game.

I also make it a point to try at least one new dish at each tailgate I attend, whether it is something light or barbecue.

...and keepin' it simple for the first tailgate. We've got next weekend, of course, to go all-out.

A morning bloody, and then some Sammy Adams Octoberfests accompanied by some kielbasa on the grill.

We hook up my jäger tap machine.... Raise our jäger flag.... Do some shots, then start the beer pong tournament, and try to be the life of the golf course. We consider ourselves to be ambassadors, so we invite the opposing fans over as well.

But iirc, when I worked at the golf course, we made sure to get there before 6 because that's when they let the commoners in, jk, but they started to let peeps in at 6 and there was always a line. Never a big line, we're talking 20 30 cars, but people were waiting to get in. So if you have a fave spot like we did, the 3rd buckeye tree on the 9th fairway, I would suggest get there when they open.

Heading up to Glen Arbor in the morning, watch the game at the cottage and spend the evening on the lake. Low key before my journey to AA next weekend for UTL2.
