Michigan vs Central Michigan Prediction Thread

Submitted by jericho on

So, I've been waiting for this thread to appear. It hasn't.  So I'm officially starting my  second  thread ever.  I'm sure that tomorrow will be pretty busy with the CMU preview and all.

Your prediction should come in three forms.  First: What will the first offense offensive play for us be?  Second: Who scores the first  touchdown this year?  Third: What will the final score be?

I'll start us off:

1. I think Hoke wants to start MANBAWL off right and we see Fitz off right tackle for 4 yards.  I would love to see play  action deep to Chesson, but I doubt it.

2. The first touchdown will go to none other than D. Funch.  Of course, if we win the toss and defer, than Blake can have the honor of a pick 6 and I'll be just fine with that.

3. 42-3. Usually as we get closer to a game I get more pessimistic.  Oddly this year I feel that we should blow their doors off on both sides of the ball.

Grab your crystal ball and make it happen, people!

1. Power run to the left with Toussaint, pulling Kalis to Lewan. Just to see if it works as we all hope. It goes for 7, and we all have a glimmer of hope in the power run game.

2. Gardner rolls out from the 2 yard line and outruns a LB to the pylon.

3. I don't think we're going to totally blow the doors off, as they'll leave something in the book for ND, but it'll be a comfortable 38-13 win. Tipton is a good RB and they'll have two or three frustratingly long drives, but only make it into the endzone once.

1.) Fitz run behind Lewan, with a great kick-out block coming from a pulling Kalis

2.) Fitz again, on a 15 -20 yard run cappping off a great first drive

3.) Somewhere in the range of 35-14, with CMU scoring the second TD late in garbage time

First play: first down pass to Funchess. First TD: 5 yard run up the middle by Fitz.

Final score: Michigan 45, CMU 6

Really point forward to updating my signature for the first time since January.

The one prediction I hope DOESN'T come true is the one currently dealing with the weather. I could certainly do without a repeat of our last meeting with the Chippewas, that of the hour long rain delay in 2006.

HOWEVER, seeing as the last two times we opened (or essentially opened; CMU was game 2 in 2006) the season with rain delays against a directional we won 11 games, maybe the forecast isn't such a bad thing...

Bold predictions:

1) At least two defensive / special teams touchdowns.

2) Shane Morris and Jehu Chesson score their first college touchdown, respectively (although it is Gardner throwing to Chesson).

3) Michigan runs for under 50 yards in the first half.

To answer your questions:

1) Halfback run to the left is the first play.

2) First touchdown is scored by Jeremy Gallon.

3) Final score: Michigan 45, Central 14 (right on the line, baby!)

Some random but key comparisons from last year's stats, for what it is worth:

 - Michigan third down conversions (offense) = 50.29%

 - CMU third down conversions (offense) = 37.41%

 - Michigan third down conversions (defense) = 35.96%

 - CMU third down conversions (defense) = 44.38%

 - Michigan points per play (defense) = 0.298

 - CMU points per play (defense) = 0.445

CMU also gave up 6.0 yards per play compared to Michigan's 4.8 yards.

One of the more common scores in Vegas - last time I checked - was something along the lines of 42-10, which sounds about right.

The game will never be in doubt, but we'll have flashes of great play on both sides of the ball interspersed with a bunch of yakety-sax turnovers, penalties, and special teams gaffes.

We'll be much better next week against ND.

If the other team doesn't score, it is impossible to lose.  I hope to see that happen.

Michigan 47-0

Why 47?  I also like prime numbers..

Also, we are flying (or driving) up from Alabama for, among other things, the game so I hope I don't get rained on, nor do I hope for a sunburn.  Sometimes there is just no pleasing me.

To the right? No off tackle to the left.

if we receive the ball fleet is taking it to the house bank it... if we defend then get the ball Gallon scores on a 18 yard pass..

we send a message 48-0
