Andy Schmitt
I just got done talking with a friend of mine who started for Eastern on Saturday. Apparently the word is, Schmitt's knee injury is career ending. Sad story for a kid who probably had an outside shot at making an NFL roster.
Also, my friend was telling me how loud it was on the field. He said it was very hard to make calls at times because of the noise.

Hopefully he can beat the odds and make a comeback.

sucks for the kid and hope he has a speedy recovery. there must be something about that part of the field cause that was damn close to the area when fargas had his knee blown up.

I think we were on grass when Fargas was here.

they were playing on grass and it was against wisconson. i was referencing the spot on the field, not what kind of field (grass or field turff) they were playing on.

Alright. I took it to mean that you thought there may be something wrong with the turf in that spot, but I just misunderstood what you meant.

When Fargas got hurt, the x-rays looked so bad there was legitimate concern he would have trouble walking normally again. Horrendous break. It's amazing he was able to spring back from that.
I feel bad for this kid, and I feel bad for Ron English. That's not the way you want your first season in rebuilding a program to go.

Always sad to hear these kind of stories. Hopefully he can make it back.

Know what happened? Was he hit and just tried to go an extra play and then collapsed like that?
Man, this seems like on of those old astroturf injuries, when a guy would get his leg caught in a seam or something and just tear the knee up.
Good luck to ya, Andy!

he stepped back, planted his right foot, and went down. it was just one of those fluky things that happens. he did fumble on the way down and brandon graham pounced on it.
i was disappointed in the "Go Blue" cheer when he was on the ground, clearly in pain, with the trainers tending to him. For those that were there, was that a student section thing? Whoever it was, it was a poor display when an opposing player is injured on the turf.

No one near him just stepped awkwardly and down he went.

To the OP, please provide more info when you have it. I even felt crummy when we took possession on that play.

I will let you guys know when I hear anything else. I'm sure there will be some sort of formal announcement soon.

You hate to see a kid who's put in so much time to go down in that matter. Here's to a speedy recovery.
September 22nd, 2009 at 4:53 PM ^
That's terrible, and for it to happen on such a freak play is even rougher.

I talked to Andy (went to high school with him) before the MRI results came back. He felt something in his knee a few plays before that he said. The play he dropped was just the straw that broke the camels back. Really weird. I feel awful for him because he is a great kid and has worked his butt off. But he has a good head on his shoulders and will still be successful in whatever other endeavors he pursues I am sure.
