Michigan Depth Chart for Central Michigan released

I'm not sure many questions have been answered by this release.

I wouldn't get to worked up about any of this...  it's going to change based on matchups, injuries and game performance.  It's fun to look at and speculate about but I think (especially early in the season) these are as much about motivation as they are legitimate rankings of ability.  We're still young in a lot of areas but the depth and overall talent level is much better than anything we've seen in recent years and it's really exciting to envision what this team will become.

The '97 team (arguably the most dominant Michigan defense of the modern era), even with Woodson and Andre Weathers as starters, ended up using two true freshman DBs as backups.  James Whitley and William Peterson, who later changed his named to Will James, started the season on the two-deep.  Both played quite a bit that year.

Let's hope Stribling and Lewis have great careers at Michigan, regardless of whether they make meaningful contributions this year.  Unfortunately, neither Whitley nor Peterson graduated from Michigan, as they both left early for various reasons.

is not that much of a surprise, is he?  I thought he would be #2 just because the coaches always speak quite highly of him quite consistently which I cannot say for the other Rbs except for Hayes who was destined to be a 3rd down RB. I know we didn't hear too much about him lately but the same can be said for Glasgow over Braden at LG,. The coaches love to keep things very close to the vest but it is hard to contain some leaks and Johnson being high on the chart makes sense if you look at his knowledge (being in the system), ability, spring, size, etc..

Drake Johnson will now prove he's a baller.

I don't know what the doom and gloom is all about. Personally I feel like this is as solid of a depth chart on paper as we've had since before the Never Forget season. Proven starters, including all B1G caliber guys at QB, RB, CB1 and 2, LT, RT, SS, DT, NT, FB, WR1, Slot, TE, MLB, WLB, and to a lesser extent DE and SLB. We've got some unproven, yet hyped guys at RG and Nickel. Center, LG, WR2 and FS are the only spots where someone need to step up, but there's no real reason to feel the guys penciled in can't hack it. 4 question marks out of 22 ain't too bad.

Show me a depth chart for any other school outside of the Alabamas of the world that doesn't have the same or more question marks. This is college football where you get 4 years and you're forced to move on. On average a quarter of the roster is gone every year. New guys and unknowns stepping up is the norm, not the exception.

I think too many posters were just focusing on his star rating out of high school, which could have been a function of his not doing the camp circuit more than anything else.  Given his size and speed (not just fake 40 times, but proven in his track exploits), as well as his highschool football stats, he really should have been rated higher by the recruiting services coming out of high school.

I hope to see Drake Johnson make an impact this year.  Supposedly he is really good at pushing the pile in the 3rd and short situations and he also is the fastest back we have.
