I can't wait for next Saturday afternoon and out first possession---from my vantage point 79 rows up in the north end zone, watching Offensive Line play is one of my favorite in-game pastimes.  I've been looking forward to watching what Kalis brings for a long time!

The Detroit News has a piece on Kalis this morning as well - (LINK)

Coach Funk had this to say:

“He came in strong enough,” offensive line coach Darrell Funk said. “Some kids come in, they might be big enough (as far as) height, weight, but Kyle was close physically. It’s consistency in how he plays that will ultimately decide what he does.”

I think that, under the tutelage of Lewan and Schofield, Kalis will definitely be an asset to this line. It sounds like he's soaked in the lessons that have been thrown at him and - perhaps most importantly - he can pave roads through defensive linemen from the look of things.

You can see that each team member embraces the Team concept, even Kalis commenting that he now hopes he is named a starter vs expecting it. It shows that everything is earned.

Also Smith looks more impressive every time I see him run the ball, he runs with bad intentions...has great balance and makes people earn a tackle. I think he may end up being one of the very best in this class.

Cowboys have their first home preseason game tonight. Headed out early to tailgate in a little bit. This morning I woke up feeling like football is finally here. Brady reeling in recruits left and right has made this long summer somewhat bearable, but I am so glad the wait is just about over!

MA's (missed assignments) and loafs.  I learned something new.  They do keep stats on linemen.

I'd kind of like to hear about those stat lines on the other lineman too.  Especially the guys battling for the other Guard spot and the Center position like Bryant, Braden, Miller, Glasgow etc....

Nice interview. Looks like Kalis is a real rennaissance man, not only his road grading ability as we suspected, but also his musical and artistic talents described in the article this week. We're fortunate for the Tressel meltdown that had Kyle look to Michigan.

Just wondering if he will eventually wind up at tackle after Lewan is gone. He seems to have the mindset of a Michigan Olineman and could be a perfect guy to continue the #77 legacy. We'll see I guess. 

I always expected that Bryant and Magnuson would be pushing or named early starters in this reajusted line, but that was before it was clear that Schofield and Lewan would anchor at tackle. This makes the transition a lot easier to deal with both now and next year, and provide depth with starter competition looming, especially with a new guy at left tackle protecting Gardner's blind side.

Kalis is very confident.  Hopefully he can grow in to a Steve Hutchinson type of guard.

BTW... more #4 sightings in that night scrimmage video that we didnt see earlier... kid is going to be special.
