Saturday Night Thread

It was a lovely day over here in SW MI. Beach was perfect and hopping full of happy people.

Watching: Tigers, Pre-season NFL a plenty on tonight

Drinking: 10 year single malt highland scotch

Doing: not a damn thing

Excitement level for UofM football: solid 8 out of ten. I like to build up to the first game. Soooooo impressed with how much more deep we are in are three deeps; and though young, seriously talented young men.

HTTV: through the team preview, schedule analyst tomorrow.

Over here, I've got Sam Adams White Lantern beer - excellent beer for what is a very nice evening here in southeastern Michigan.

For the moment, I have Dream Cruise coverage on once screen and the Tigers on the other. Later, I plan to reconnect with one of my favorite BBC shows - "One Foot In The Grave".

I just realized, after a couple scotches no less, that I said " much more deep", rather than 'deeper'. I feel some shame on that one. Sorry MgoPeeps! Exercise the Grammar!

It's one thing to miss the call, but to compound your own mistake by kicking out the manager and the catcher (who wasn't in any way out of control) is just ridiculous. This "human element" of the game seems more and more to be about the very human traits of saving face when they are wrong and worsening mistakes due to their own short tempers. They also seem to be virtually immune from public scrutiny.

Situations like this erode a lot of good will, and as replay and electronic officiating improve good will becomes more and more important in justifying the size of their roles in the game.

Am wondering about today's scrimmage. Were there any media members allowed in? Any reports or news? I assume no injuries.

Here at home, enjoyed an absolutely beautiful late summer day, a good long bike ride in the morning, son out fishing all day with a friend, wife out happily shopping, daughter up at a classmate's lake cottage in Wisconsin. Great fish fillet on the grill, Zucchini, onions, peppers on the grill with a bit of olive oil, simple dark green salad, fresh Michigan peaches for dessert, and a bit of beer. Life is very good, and it goes by so quickly. Hope all is well with you and yours.

I'm drinking honey wine I bought in Little Ethiopia. I don't usually have anything unique or Michigan oriented to add to the drinking threads so I felt the need to broadcast this choice.

Founders take-over at Sam's Quick Stop.  Better Half, KBS, Doom, 2012 Devil Dancer, Mango con Magnifico . . . good times.  The unwashed, I believe, call it, "rock out with your cock out."  Many Michigan grads, ex-pats and fans there today.

After a nap and several B vitamins, ibuprofen and glasses of water I'm back on the war path.

Re-watching the BtN MichigN preview, and whoa, we got some big freakin athletic dudes. Finally! Gonna be a fun team to watch this year. Probably some moments of "whhhaatttt" but also some mind splitting exciting moments.

Drinking spotted cow and starting a triathlon training blog. The blog should be an interesting experiment because I like to keep my thoughts to myself (I've been a lurker here for about 7 years before making an account). More beer should help though

class.  that has been my 'class', both unofficial and official (depending on the race) that i have been in for decades.  now it would be 'old gray clydesdale' class.   i remember one i did where  our back-up tight end (also 250 lbs, and we were both in good football shape) and i did the national sprint championships out in socal.   i suggested we sprint the last couple hundred yards to the finish line and off we went.   as we approached the finish line the announcer booms out on the loudspeakers, "okay ladies, you better get to the finish line right now, because heeeere comes the beef!'

just happy to be out there and grateful for the health to do them.
