Meta: Server, Page Down, Defensive Recruit List, Points
My header is pretty self-explanatory, but it'd be great if Brian, Seth or a mod could explain several things, for instance:
- What affect will server change have on the site?
- Is the page down feature for the board going to be fixed (so you don't have to open pages in a new window?)
- What's happening with points and upvoting/downvoting? (I really don't care WHAT the answer is, just would like to know what to expect & when changes are coming.)
- 2014 offensive recruiting board is listed under useful stuff . . . eta for defensive recruiting board?
- Are you having a blog header contest again, or has that already been designed for the 2013 campaign?
- Anything else on site happening before this season (i.e, by Aug. 30.) Obv., there won't be time for significant blog changes after we're fully into the swing of things.
Again, I love mgoblog as it is (well, mostly,) and I'm not expecting or needing change, but just am curious what to expect. I guess you could say, in a different vein, I'm asking of the site owners the same kinds of questions asked of Michigan coaches.
In Brian I Trust
I would assume they are working on updates and that they will be wonderful.

Replying here so it's high up.
1) it'll be faster and more resilient to traffic floods..
2) I'm not sure exactly what this refers to. Clarification?
3) The immediate goal is to get back to the status quo from before the move. Long term (IE, site revamp), we will restore unlimited pos/negbangs.
4) Defensive recruiting board is something we're going to get up before the season.
5) No contest. Six Zero and I confer on several options and select one. I disagreed strongly with many of the outcomes from the last contest and decided I'd rather just pick the thing I wanted.
6) No plans for major changes. We're in a nasty spot because drupal 8 was just released and we can either jump to that or 7, and I'd much rather do two levels at a time than one.
Thanks for your answers . . . that's all I was looking for.
- Your response clarifies that you did indeed change your avatar (for all I knew, there was another Brian with this avatar, although the point total gives it away.)
- Regarding page down: on the right side of the page, there is a site search, & below that Diaries, & below that MGoBoard, & below that mgo.licio.us. At the bottom of the MGoBoard section, there is the tag "1 of 8" (I'm guessing for 8 pages of board entries,) and then a double right arrow, i.e., >>. When you click on the >> to "page down" to page 2, the MGoBoard section vanishes. The short term fix is to right click and open a page in a second window. While this works, it is a bit of a pain, especially on game days when there are scores of new board entries, and you want to find a thread that is 3 or 4 pages down. I am using Chrome, which may (or may not) be relevant.
- Regarding the page design and header, I trust and welcome your judgement. Democracy in something like this can end up with pretty weird outcomes. But as much as I loved Denard's tenure, it is time to turn the page and change the header.

But if you use Firefox with Greasemonkey or Chrome, you can install this script:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/137085
Which fixes pagination on the various sidebar aggregation areas and does a few other things to streamline the site experience.

I hate to display my computer ignorance, but I'm not sure about several things.
- I thought you used either Firefox OR Chrome, not both. How do I use Firefox with Chrome?
- How do I "install" a script? Does this have to be done every time, or is this a one time fix?
Thanks in advance for your help with doing this.
I'm a programmer, not a writer, so I'm going to use parentheses in an attempt to clarify:
Use (Firefox with Greasemonkey) or (Chrome).
Greasemonkey is an addon for Firefox that allows you to install scripts like the one linked above as mini-addons. Chrome will do this on it's own, but the process is a bit trickier. Link!
http://userscripts.org/about/installing
Once installed, scripts will run every time you visit a page within one of their "included" domains. The script in question here runs on mgoblog.com, so every time you visit any url in the mgoblog.com domain, it will run. And it will not run on any other sites.
Will try that! Thanks for the suggestion.

Well, while you are at it, there's been one thing that has not worked in a long time. While logged in, the left panel appears as:
Users by MGoPoints
Forums
My Account
Recent Posts
Create Content
Log Out
When I click on "Recent Posts" (http://mgoblog.com/tracker) I get a "Recent Posts" panel that has 2 tabs, one entitled "All Recent Posts" (which is active) and another entitled "My Recent Posts." The tab "My Recent Posts" used to give you a panel of all threads that the user had posted on. Now it gives me an error message while trying to direct me to "http://mgoblog.com/tracker/143" where I'm guessing 143 is probably my user number.
100% more NSFH pics.
good times.
Ha, but deserved. Good memory.
like a champ. You earned a lot of my respect that night.
I want to posbang you both so hard for reminding me of that.
those were the days, when I could double my point total with one shitty photoshop of a scarlett johannson picture...
Those were the days.
MAKE ME A BICYCLE, CLOWN.
Brians reaction to reading your list....
Hilarious graphic, and a good enough answer to my questions for me.

Is that Andrew W.K. ?
August 7th, 2013 at 11:50 PM ^
Yes. That is the best news show on TV, hands down.
I downvoted your post Mr. Kass only because I couldn't downvote a lot of stupid posts today. Thanks for being there when I needed it.
Per Brian's comment in the "Mic Check" thread, the changes to (indeed, the absence of) voting were an unintended consequence of the server migration that took place last night. As far as I understand, and this could be incorrect, whatever happened caused the modules which control voting and perhaps some other functions to revert to an earlier version - the moderation buttons are visible, at least on my end, but only in a small cluster at the top of the threads. The eventual future of comment moderation - per a thread long ago - was a return to something at least analogous to the old system, but the timeline is something that I don't know specifically.
It'd be great if you could mind your own business
I just click them a lot. Something is bound to happen eventually.
I just clicked where the moderate thing should be for your post. You probably just got like a zillion points or something.
the moderate area while thinking only of "overrated", so back to 3142 points...maybe.
I'm only upset because I felt I had some good posts today and I missed out on my self-appreciating parties when I see 5 points above my post
going up 50 with 3 posts.

Make three more posts and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Lookin like a site back out plan wasn't considered. Even the best of plans can go south real quick when performing server migrations.
August 7th, 2013 at 10:35 PM ^
Damn, even the servers are faster in the SEC.
August 7th, 2013 at 10:55 PM ^
I'd plus this if I could.
Put yourself down for a +1 when/if the migration rights itself.

The only thing I care about is that now the boxes around comments are a lighter shade of blue. I don't like that at all. It's surprising how much it bothers me.
Edit: or is it? I can't exactly tell. Something visual is different, that's all I know.
August 7th, 2013 at 11:50 PM ^
They seem a lighter shade, and it feels like the "squareness" of them is more emphasized. I'm drawing a blank right now, but I don't think the old comment boxes were so rigid, or had the bottoms colored
The gray then?
bring back maize n blue please!!
I like the new "(Reply to #)" feature, even if it isn't working properly. Consider this a vote for fixing it, not trashing it.
is about to drop off my mobil page. It is easy enough to sell my tickets somewhere, but I was hoping for a really nice home for them. You, especially, would like the pre-Bo player next to me, not to mention that I won't be able to use OSU, either.
<whistles>
Seth calling a penalty? May he not ding your points! Um, I believe there is a sticky for selling/buying tickets. But I still don't know how to share/get contact info without posting for all. Let me look a the buying/selling spreadsheet.
Regarding the tickets, I have an obligation 8/31 I can't get out of (I'm a pastor, and am officiating at a wedding that day.)
August 12th, 2013 at 12:23 PM ^
no <whistles> as in suggestively saying "hey, over here."
You don't have to post it, I can pull it from your account page.
The new "comments rating" tab is kinda funky. Might be TMI.
