OTish: The Future of Instant Replay

Submitted by Space Coyote on

I assume something somewhat similar could be used in other sports, such as basketball and football as well. But I found this to be pretty crazy. It looks like a video game. I'm not sure what went into setting it up, I'm guessing in baseball it's helped by things happening at fixed locations. But in football you could have something around the GL or around the basket in basketball.

YES plays replays like this, have been for a couple years now I think.

I assume they have so many HD cameras around the stadium that the imaging is generated from HD signals at 8-12 camera locations around the stadium feeding images to a computer. Not sure how much CGI goes into it tho.

CBS pioneered this in the 2001(?) Super Bowl when the Ravens beat the Giants. As you say, it's done by fixed cameras all over the stadium.
