The UTL2 is going to be the premier recruiting event of the year...an absolute load of talented kids will be on the sideline...gotta win that game

Can you imagine our d line in the immediate future if we get these recruits. Heck even if we get one or two of them. I wonder if some of this success on the d line has to do with the fact that Hoke talks about being a d line coach so much. Also, not only could the line be uber talented but it will be well coached. Now we would only need its members to work hard and it will stack up to anything, including the SEC, the rest of the country has.

The offer list for Settle is a fairly lenghty one - Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Miami (YTM), Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Old Dominion, Oregon State, South Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin, according to Rivals.

His Hudl.com highlights from the 2012-13 campaign were on YouTube:

That seemed to come out of nowhere....where did this all come from?  Haven't seen Settle's name associated with our 2015 class so far.

I think the "Commish" and the "Mayor" may have been involved...and I think Hand is the new "Sherrif".  We have quite the makings of a strong government...err...Defense in the coming years.

He has been talked about as being a potential member of the class in some parts. I believe the coaches are waiting to extend an offer until he comes to campus. From what I've read, Ohio State seems to be the favorite, but perhaps getting Hand would pull him elsewhere in the Big Ten. Personally, I don't think we have a shot if we can't reel in Hand.

Well, Andrew Brown and Quin Blanding say hi, and don't be surprised if Settle follows.  He's looking much harder at the instate schools than Hand ever did.  It's too early to make hard predictions like I did about Blanding, Brown, and Kamara, but Settle has more than legitimate interest in UVA, and Tech as well.  And just got back from Tuscaloosa, FWIW.

I would add that Settle has planned a trip to Charlottesville to take in Oregon/UVA for the same weekend as the UTL game, so I think the UTL report is of "unverified veracity" at this point.

In state schools is due to his lack of opportunity to get to other schools. It's very expensive to take unofficials. A weekend in Michigan was well over $1K. That's driving, renting a car, hotel, food, gas etc. Unless you have a coach who's willing to take his personal time or a parent with free time and money...and the ability to take time off of work, then your opportunities are limited to where you can get to and back home in a day. Andrew Brown falls under that group too, committed to UVA and didn't visit any other of the big schools recruiting him. Settle went to Ohio with Hand for a camp, but hasn't seen any other major programs.

I don't consider UVA, VT, and to an extent UNC major programs, I mean schools like Michigan, USC, Ohio, Texas, Bama, Florida, etc. there is a very obvious difference walking into their facilities and walking into one of the big boys.

Settle just got back from Alabama.  Brown visited GT, Clemson, and camped in Chicago so it's not like he couldn't have gotten to Ohio or Michigan if he'd wanted to.  I think it's a little insulting all around to insinuate "he only went to UVA because he couldn't afford to visit real schools."  If Brown had really wanted to visit some of the big schools offering him, he could've waited until official visit season.

If I recall, Canzior is a coach that traveled with Hand on his visit to UM. I think he has some good insight into the top players in this area and is probably not just insuating anything, but stating truths. I believe the camp in Chicago was the Rivals 5* camp and I think that players are helped out with costs for these camps, but I am not certain about that. Otherwise, he didn't do much traveling for visits. I am surprised at the number of officials many of these players take and the distance traveled. It always makes me wonder how it is affordable, seeing how some of these kids are not from the best areas and have stated as much.

GT and Clemson...both are with a 6/7 hour drive to the 757 area(Michigan is about 12) and Chicago didn't come out of his pocket. Insulting or not, it's the case for a lot of kids. As an apparent UVA fan, I understand you taking offense to this, but it's not about the school, it's about locale.  Look at how often Ferns, Morris, Harris et al are on campus.  Guys that are further away? Peppers? Hand?  Once each. Speight goes to private school and his family is doing well.  There is a reason most kids don't leave their areas.  It is financially feasible to visit early and often. I've lived in VA for 26 years so I'm a little familiar with the state. Maybe you follow recruiting or are a coach, so I don't discount your info.

Just about everyone I hang out with coaches high school ball in VA. So I have heard different stories than you have. Brown has never been a fan of the process, combined with the desire to end it early, so his UVA commit was no surprise to anyone.  He never cared for any of it, and neither did his dad once the coaches were allowed to call the house. Once again, I will give you the disclaimer: This is meaning no offense to your school, it's just how the chips fell.  Even being a UVA fan,  with all the hype about London going around,  you know AB can go anywhere, yet he chooses to go to a school with a head coach (who I personally think is fantastic for the program) but is likely to get fired sometime during Brown's UVA career, and is a solid 2nd in the state.  I think the entire state would do well to have both programs be good, because there is an immense amount of talent, and the level of high school coaching is improving.

And as of right now,  Settle is coming with Da'Shawn (and possibly a 2015 OL) to the UTL II game...per the guy driving.

The timing is interesting. Hand announces his decision date yesterday. Today we find out he is bringing a top DL prospect with him to UTL2. Either Hand is a good guy helping a younger recruit through the visit process or this bodes very well for us on November 14th. IMO, both are be true!

I think settle had been interested in UM for a while, rumblings were tht if Hand had come to the bbq then settle would have joined him. He is also high on OSU. Think this one was just a fortuitous "I like the same school and we can travel together" moment.

Hand still to visit UF and Bama, would UF being scarier for threatening for his services

I'm sure you're right. I'm just strangely optimistic about our chances with Hand, which is really odd because I'm more of a "glass half empty" kind of guy. As it is often said here, getting kids on campus is a huge step. Let our tradition, facilities, staff, players, and commits take care of the rest!

His recruitment has been interesting.  Michigan has been very interested in him but he has not received an offer yet.  Hand is using a lot of his limelight to get Settle's name out there (i.e. Ohio visit that he and Hand took a couple months ago).  With Settle confirmed to visit for the UTL game, I would think Michigan has a strong possibilty of being the front runner if/when they finally offer him.

Is Jason Cornell coming as well?

He is the top-ranked recruit in 2015 according to some sites, and he has been in contact with some of our commits via Twitter already. I thought I read somewhere that he might be coming to UTL2.

When we hired Mattison I was excited about his bringing the Ravens defense schemes and know-how with him, but never did I expect he'd actually recruit what will soon be the college equivalent of the Ravens defense itself.  The future is shaping up to be scary good round these parts, and no better team to unseat the SEC for the rest of the country than the winningest team of all time.
