OT - Shark Week Day 1 Open Thread
It's that time of year again, Shark Week on the discovery channel. Hopefully we get another week of awesome shark related programming. Right now there's a show on a giant shark off the coast of South Africa.
Anyone else watching?
MEGALODON!
Colossus is Megalodon
Tracy Jordan looks like he's on heroin in that video.

I thought the same thing. How would the video footage be salvaged? May be the case that a boat actually went down, but they simply created a video to add glamour. Then again, the whole idea of "Megalodon" is questionable.
This whole thing is fake and terribly disappointing.
Best promo vid ever.

Apologies of course, wayyyy OT. Two friends backed out of Tuesday's JT & Jay-Z concert @ Ford Field. 2 tickets, sect. 125 for $125 each. Also would consider trading for tickets to UM football. Email is [email protected]
Enjoy Shark Week.
Edit: By the way this is off-topic

Jordan Kovacs just made a tackle. In the NFL. (sort of).
Sorry for the OT, but Dolphins are pretty close to Sharks anyway.
Dolphins are mammals. Sharks are a a class of cartilaginous fish. Aside from they both live in the ocean, they're not close at all. Dolphins are more closely related to humans than they are to sharks.

Which UM football player deserves the nickname MEGALODON? Fast, immensely powerful, feasts upon humpback whales. Suggestions?

I must say I was extremely disappointed with the direction they went with the shark week Sunday premiere. When did this whole "mockumentary" movement start? I've lost almost all respect for the Discovery Channel. They seem to have no problem with turning into the National Enquirer Channel in order to improve their ratings. I encourage everyone to email their corporate office and complain about this uptick in intentionally misleading programming.
There was a day when the purpose of shark week was to undo the damage that Jaws did, and educate people rather than entertain them. That day is long passed.
Agree. Wish they did some sort of conservation stuff too. Shark populations are getting wiped out, especially with the continued harvesting for shark fin soup.
I wish they didn't every special on the Great White either, with all those different interesting sharks. But I'm watching anyway.
Honestly I don't mind the cryptozoology-type programming like this. It's entertaining, though probably not scientifically faithful. So long as 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo' stays on the learning channel (what?) then I'm fine with Discovery diversifying their programming a bit.
This pisses me off beyond belief. When i was a kid and I saw something on the Discovery Channel I assumed it was fact based and scientically sound. Now The Discovery Channel has turned into ScyFi. It is really frustrating when you have to try to figure out while watching something whether it is a real science based experiment or if it is a phony piece of garbage. The Discovery Channel is crap. Disappointing as hell.

old 70's Sasquatch The Legend of Bigfoot movie combined with Geraldo Rivera trying to find Al Capone's vault. Then there are all the red neck reality shows too.
I think TV in general continues to erode into drivel. Honey Boo Boo and Backyard Oil being exhibits a and b.

They had me for a while with the Megalodon show until they started firing the "chum gun." I'd say it jumped the shark at that point.
