OT - Did Anyone Win Tickets to the US v Mexico Qualifier in Columbus?

Submitted by alum96 on

Just curious if anyone here won.  I had 5 people try for me (well me and 4 other households) and none of us won.  All but 1 from Michigan - so I am ready to build a conspiracy case.  Frustrating.  They said demand was double capacity so I figured with 20K capacity 40K applications for about 15K seats (since some were already sold).  Bah humbug.

my group went 0-6 and were all in Ohio. Was pretty shocked that not one of use won. We were orginally fearing we would be in trouble if to many of us won. I guess sitting on the coach watching it on ESPN it is.

Between AO and Crew pre-sale and I think there was a Visa pre-sale, I'd think there were more like 7,000 seats available to the general public, not 15,000.  AO bought well more than their share.

AO members had a members-only presale like a month ago.  I'd imagine that US Soccer is more than happy to give the supporters groups a lot of ticket access because they're ones that they know will 1) make tons of noise, and 2) not scalp their tickets to a Mexico fan if it turns out they can't use the tickets.

Yes.

They had a lottery maybe a month or so ago and actually outsold their allotment, so they had to expand the supporters section to accommodate. If you were apart of the "extended seating," you just had to pay an additional $15 to lock up your spot.

AO and other supporters groups claim to have sold 9,000 tix (if they have, that's going to be quite a supporters section). Then add in the Crew season tix holders who could buy tix before the lottery (I have no idea how many that is) and you might be down to 5-6 k tickets available in the lottery.

In other US soccer news, it appears the Dempsey is gonna be a Sounder pretty soon. Good for MLS, but he is still good enough to stay in the Prem or move to another decently sized club in Europe. Not like he had a bad season or anything.
