There was a current events blog I used to visit that I quit because it became a gruesome cult of personality for the blogmaster (hint: Lizards, that's all I'll say).

But the guy was a tech genius and his site was amazing. The best thing was that thread comments loaded in real-time from the latest post, so you could literally watch the thread refresh. Cool story and all, yes, but that was an impressive blog technically.

I know nothing about the programing requirements or how it works... The old scoring system where pos bangs (and usually more entertaining) neg bangs were really something.

Edit: beaten to the punch!

If you get the posbang/negbang back, it works better than having an OT board.  The crap OT is punished with a negbombing and then removed by a mod once the tribe has spoken.

Having a dedicated OT board is like creating a space for mediocrity to flourish.

I actually like some of their OT stuff. The comments, well, yeah, but I sometimes scan RCMB simply because there are some interesting OT stuff. Rather than clutter our main board here, I think you could get a nice OT thread, and then like others said, have a true pos/neg system again and if it's unwarrented OT it gets bombed. If that's the biggest downside, and you can get some cool OT links, because lots of us at least have similar interest (I like the Space OT links, for instance, but not everyone does; others are the drinking threads, the pro-sports teams, etc that a lot people like to reasonably justify a thread, but not everyone does like it). I've long thought a OT thread would be nice.

Also, FWIW, I do like the set-up that the MSU 247 has with the Duff. A general recruiting thread, then a thread for individual recruits. When someone has an update or whatever, that person gets pushed to the top and people can discuss that recruit. Maybe it becomes more difficult to moderate if people don't follow the rules, but I think it's a pretty nice way to get the people interested in recruiting to sort the info and give a place for people to discuss those recruits.

Of course they would. But at least it would be on the topic of Michigan related sports/academics.

I visit other message boards and they have "General Talk" boards. Yes, they allow people to start topics that I wouldn't discuss but the beauty is all that trash is filed away in a completely different forum.

Either way, no big deal. I will continue to wade through the garbage posts to find the gems I find and enjoy here. I was just suggesting a way to make it better.

Just make the board and don't moderate it. I bitch about ot threads because I come here to read about Michigan sports.

Michigan sports are not linked with any other pro sports unless there is a player that played at Michigan on the current team. I have a feeling if I posted a topic every day with my favorite pro teams more would complain since my team is not from the state of Michigan.

Just my opinion.
