OTish: What are your plans for opening day

Submitted by Boom Goes the … on

With kickoff a month away, just curious what everyone's plans for the game are.  No, it's not the biggest opponent this year, but it's still Michigan football.  Personally, I'm up at 330 am Sunday (Okinawa time) to catch the game, grilling a breakfast bratwurst or 2, then probably head off to church before hopefully some of the later games.  Can't wait!!!

In AA, getting excited for some Devin Funchess-style freshman breakout (I'm looking at you, Derrick Green).

(Also, how do you catch games in Japan? I'm in Nagoya for work all the time and trying to find somewhere that has any American sports is an exercise in futility)

(in my best Brady Hoke voice) I'll probably have to work in the morning, but I'll come home, watch some football, eat something, watch some football, drink beer, watch some football, avoid the wife, watch some football, neglect my kid, watch some football, drink some more, watch a little more football and then probably, uhhhh, pass out.

Wake up way to early like Christmas, read mgoblog and mnb, figure out what I'm going to wear, watch college game day live, probably tweet to much about how excited I am, watch the game and all others that follow!

I am pretty sure it will start out like most days in my house - either the kids will get me up early despite me having stayed up for the Friday games, or the cats will get me up early with their infamous "Toes Are Evil" campaign.

After that, plan the wardrobe for the game, coffee and breakfast. In celebration of the return of football, it will likely be a full English breakfast because I've made that a "morning of the first game" tradition these past several years.

I only live about 25 minutes from the stadium, but I'll try to get get to Ann Arbor as early as possible after first soaking in some "College GameDay" to see if Corso will finally break down and predict "Diet or Regular?". Once I get to Ann Arbor, it's a combination of wandering around finding old friends and food.

Between about 3:30 PM and 6:30 PM - football.

After the game, I will drive home, reconnect with everyone and then sit down with a beer, MGoBlog and the late games.

I will start off the day bright and early by playing some NCAA 14, obviously playing against CMU at The Big House. Next, I'm going to hop in my car and drive to AA to meet up with some old friends, have a few drinks, and play more NCAA and watch Gameday. Finally, I will head up to good ol Michigan Stadium a few hours early to hope for a great seat so I can jump up and down and scream my lungs out like a little kid for a couple hours.

ONLY 32 MORE DAYS

But there are plenty of M alums and fans in the family so we will watch the game after half a day of wake-boarding. First home game I will miss since UTL (I was really sick that week).

My Dad and his friends will use the tickets so we will still do our part to pack the stadium with Michigan fans/alums.

Probably roll into town around 11:30 - 12:00.  Settle in at either Charlies or Pizza House for some lunch and pre-game libation and watch the first half of the Noon games.  Around 2:30, head on out for the Stadium to watch Team 134 put a beatdown on the Chips.

Should be a pretty good day.

We will pull up to the house we tailgate at about 7:30, get everthing setup, play some bags and start drinking. About 1 1/2 hours later our late friends will show up asking if we need any help setting up. Then they will disappear for another hour only to come back with a bag full of hash browns. The days conversations will range from the lastest recruit, to sympathizing with the Ann Arbor rapist (have you seen some of those girls?!!). The grill gets going at 10, and probably again at 2. I'll dominate bags pretty much until it gets too crowded to play (just saying). It's going to be a great day.

Well, my football weekend will start Thursday. I'll watch my soon-to-be alma mater play Thursday (BGSU. I graduate August 10th. WOO!)

Then I'll make a big gameday spread at home since I can't make it up this year.

Watch OSU struggle in the first half against Buffalo and stir the shit-talking pot with the family (Who are all Ohio fans. puke).

Finally at 3:30, watch a 40 point beatdown of Central.

Beer Pong at about 7am, followed by shots every half hour til kick off ... rum & diet during the game, and a celebratory shot for every TD, Int, FF, Sack, Safety, or any other play that gets my adrenaline going. Follow up the game with some channel flipping. Probably eat about 5 family sized bags of tater tots and pass out on the recliner in the Wolverine Den.

It's in Old Town Plymouth; north on Main street past the train tracks, take a left at Taco Bell (Mill Street).  Down a few blocks, take a left on Liberty.

I'm partial to the Regal Burger (bacon cheesburger with fried egg on top) with onion straws,  My wife likes the Hammy (ham, swiss, chipotle mayo).

In Feb they almost always had Hopslam on tap, too.  Great beer selection.

It's a sentimental place for me; I went there pretty frequently when I lived in Plymouth, got absolutely loaded there the night before my wedding .
