He's a future NFL player, so I doubt he's saving up money from a part-time job.  And a relative giving him money for a computer?  Unless he was planning to buy a Pro 12, I seriously doubt it.

Maybe I'm just not up with young kids, but I don't see a whole lot of them posing with 5 grand in cash on instagram.

Mr. Show is a favorite of mine to this day. He and Cross are probably my favorite comedic minds. Cross is vitriolic and pisses tons of people off and Bob is equally funny but in a much different way. He can get his point across with much more precision. Like both equally, though.

Rocks a bottle of Dom in a club he's just another rich kid. When a recruit posts a picture with the tag, "struggleoverwit," after stepping onto campus, it's slightly more nefarious.

I understand why kids take pictures with money, but I don't understand why prominent college athlete kids haven't caught on that it immediately raises immense suspicion when you do it

Not all of these kids come from broken, poor, families.  Perhaps Mom and Dad have college funds that they no longer need because stud athlete son just had his college paid for due to his athletic prowess. Could be a little bonues fun money from Mom and Dad. Maybe.

A big stack of $20's?  How dare they have roughly a grand!!  They look like idiots and deserved being mocked for being clowns, but that's about it.    Maybe they worked a summer job for three weeks.  Surprised to see people so easily fooled by chumps putting the big bill on top.  And if they got the small stack illegally...whatever, is anyone surprised?

I took a closer look at that last night after I saw a few people people mention that. The kid in the middle has a bunch of twenties for sure on the bottom of that stack, and in one of the other photos (I think the left one), you can definitely see that the first few bills are hundreds before the denominations get shorter (presumably aslo twenties if the kids are holding the same stack, which they probably are).

Anyway, none of this means anything if we can't actually prove that cash was not procured in an illegal fashion.

Amazing how naive people can be.  We've had three of these pictures that I'm aware of over the last two seasons, and all of them have come from SEC recruits who quite suddenly comitted to schools they were not expected to commit to.

Making excuses for this image either has their head shoved so far up their ass, they are too blind to see...or their sarcasm really sucks...or they just refuse to believe even Michigan players have had luxuries.

Long ago, saw a kid on campus in Tuscaloosa decked out head to toe in UM clothes. Blew me away, turned out he was a UM commit at ILB. He very sincerely asked how football players were treated in A2. My response was sure UM loves football, players are treated with a ton of respect. Bottom line, he wanted to know if he was going to be treated like his buddy who signed with Bama and had a caddy pulled up with ten grand in the trunk. My reply was that he probably chose the wrong school. He stayed one semester and transfered in the winter.

It happens everywhere, it's illegal, and should REMAIN illegal. Ultimately the NCAA doesn't have the BALLS to do anything about it because it would cost them everything if they actually nailed all the teams cheating and paying players. It's a Pandora's Box of problems they don't want to see...

My head and ass are right where they belong.  I'm not naive enough to think that cash gifts don't go down at a lot of places...perhaps most.  Unfortunately, that's just the way it is.  I don't believe every kid driving a BMW or Benz is receving illegall benefits.  Some kids just have families that can provide that.  I do like to think that Brady Hoke and company do it "the right way" and I honestly believe they do.

Well, for what it is worth, "The Capstone Report" (an Alabama blog) is already musing about this particular incident (HERE).

The author defends Liner to a point, assuming that Liner probably didn't think that this photo would get much airplay beyond his friends and family (he certainly wasn't being thoughtful regardless), but then they end it with this passage:

"Pictures like this make the statement that some kids need the discipline college athletics and education brings a lot more than the programs and institutions need them, and if Liner doesn’t get that message quickly, he’ll be sitting with Brent Calloway up in the stands on Saturdays."

He does also mention that it may make some Alabama fans uncomfortable to see something that even sniffs of a violation, but he also points out the likelihood of the NCAA doing something to satisfy the schadenfreude of opposing fans might be slim.

So for all you argue this is innocent, what do you think he means by "struggleoverwit"?  Did he end the struggle by finally cashing checks from his summer of lawnmowing?

yeah...innocent sure...and in this day and age, any moron who is a D1 prospect posing with a handful of cash is ignorant. I don't care if his folks have cash or not. But apparently that's a point missed by 'the norm or the VOICE here' above opposition to the chosen tone.

"Look everybody, I just got paid!"

One of these days posing with fanned cash bills is going to go stale and lame, as it should have over 10 years ago. Yet for whatever reason it still seems to be considered a hip thing to do by young men. Most kids gaze upon these photos and laugh, mainly because they are ridiculous and stupid.

Interestingly, tuition at Alabama undergrad is $5K resident, $12K non-resident.
