Carlos Hyde Update (i know, i know)
Mindy Drayer of NBC 4 Columbus has seen the video and is reporting Carlos Hyde slapped the victim in the face. Slapping a woman is enough to get you kicked off MTV's the Real World, but is it enough to get you kicked off the Buckeyes? Video Link: http://www.nbc4i.com/video?autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=9127622
when a policeman pulls over a drunk driver and places them under arrest, they aren't 'pressing' charges?????? A million more examples would suffice to say that yes, police do in fact press charges on criminals.
If she really did hit him first I have no issue with him returning the favor. Just because you have that magic box between your legs doesn't mean you can disrespect me in such a way. Simple as that.
Well fortunately, the law does have an issue with that. Simple as that.
The law also has an issue with women hitting men.
If you've been stomped by some chicks I suggest you seek counseling.
Nope never have. Speaking from experiences I have seem in ly personal life.
Im really hoping this is sarcasm. if not I feel sorry for you.
I really don't see the issue with what I said. In no way am I saying beat her to a bloody pulp or anything of the like, no woman or man should ever hit the opposite sex but if it does happen I don't see the issue with hitting her/him back. It's a mutual respect thing. In my experience with women in college they often feel like they have the right to strike you and you can't defend yourself. That's bull shit, simple as that .
Whether it's in college or the trailer park, if women "often feel like they have the right to strike you," I'm guessing the women aren't the source of the problem.
A women has never felt like they have had the right to hit me, if they Did I would have been hit by a woman already in my 19 years of life. Like I said there's always a mutual respect between women and myself. When it comes to women hitting men I'm speaking from seeing my female cousin often hit her husband for the smallest things.
How many people on here can't see the difference between defending yourself and hitting someone? I (and probably no one else on here) would have an issue with you defending yourself against an attack by a woman. She comes at you to slap you, you move aside or grab her hand maybe...you don't whack her back.
They appeared to have an argument, which appeared to be instigated by Hyde. She attempted to, or did slap him. He slapped her back. Contrary to what has previously been rumored, no one got knocked out or punched in the face. Also, Hyde didn't act unilaterally.
To me this appears to be on of those teaching moments in life for both parties (i.e., not a career ending event). Should he have done what he did, ever? No. But there is such a thing as heat of the moment and "fight or flight" when you adrenaline is up. In this case he appears not to have done the right thing like we were thinking with the release of the Yahoo report.
In Carlos' case, if there is a major team value statement about respecting women, well he clearly has broken a major team value, and therefore some consquence is in order. Publically, since the case is public.
My view - the best thing for Mgoblog to do here is let the police, the DA, and OSU figure this out, while we mind our own business.
Can't be.
a combination of Alvin York and Audie Murphy, a Leonidas on steroids...what a tough S.O.B. you are. Slapping the shit out of a woman because she disrespected you assuredly places you in the glorious panthenon of notable toughies such as Sean Penn, Charlie Sheen, and Mel Gibson.
I have never put my hand on a woman, I never have had to because its a mutual respect between us always. I never said slapping her chin off of her face or anything like that. Maybe a better way to put it is grabbing her up and restraining her.
Yes........that's a much better way of putting it........
Seeing as in how you are a woman I'm guessing by your username could you please tell me the best way to deal with it. I don't see walking away working. Women tend to hit more than once.
Dude, seriously, I don't know who you're dating, but I can honestly tell you, I know no woman who has ever hit a guy. But yes, I think walking away is the best way to deal with an irate woman. Just keep walking.
It's never the women I date. I never said it was an issue with the women I see. I live in Columbus and date mostly black women who never disrespect me in anyway thankfully. I'm speaking more from what I see in my friends dating lives and family members. They all seem to end up with irate, vicious women.
I have a friend who lost half of his ear because he looked at the butt of some chick at cedar point. His woman is responsible for that. Maybe its just the demographic of the women my friends and family date. I know not all women are like this. I have never been in a relationship with one that was.
And I promise I take that advice to just walk away. Seems like it is the popular opinion.
Walking away is the smartest move. That said, I've seen many women hit guys. Obviously, all women don't do this, but some seem to think it's okay to hit a guy if they are unhappy.
you seem big on respect, but I can assure you that you aren't garnering any with these opinions of yours.
one of life's goals. I believe I have met a true-to-life pimp. What color mink coat are you wearing? Church!!!
Pink but I like to alternate with blue from time to time.
slogan on the wall means anything at all then yes, slapping a women should get you kicked off one of his teams.
If the video is inconclusive, doesn't the call on the field stand?
the current call on the field to uphold? This situation makes the Seahawks/Packers game look well officiated.
I'm just gonna guess nothing will come of this. Urban/Ohio seem to get away with anything and everything...thats just the way things are. I don't like it, but nothing I can do about it. This world we live in is more about who you know than what you know.
to see the full video for myself in the thread saying Hyde was innocent, as I was at least a little suspicious that there might be a cover up of some kind going on. Of course, we have different sources now saying different things, so who knows what the truth actually is unless we see the video for ourselves.
One so-called source (saying Hyde did not assault the woman) was a second hand report providing no plausible description of what happened and insisting on remaining completely anonymous.
The other source (saying Hyde did assault the woman) comes from a respected NBC reporter, who saw the video 1st hand, stuck out her neck and put her own credibility on the line on TV. She described in detail how Hyde struck the victim in the face. The victim immediately put her hands on her face and then was consoled by people around her.
It makes me wonder if the first report--which appeared almost immediately in all the major news sources--was an attempt to pre-empt and cast doubt on later, far more credible reports. It's the kind of thing a PR department would concoct. And Ohio spends a huge amount on PR (at least 7 figures each year)
Considering the risk she's taking, I also believe the reporter. She might as well start looking for new employment if she proves to be the reason that The OSU PR machine's lame excuse wasn't just accepted as gospel.
I also noticed that the WWL didn't run any new stories when the report of Hyde's "innocence" was released yesterday. Kirk Herbstreit may be feeding them information from his old contacts in CBus because he doesn't want his network to end up with egg on its face. I'm sure Buckeye Nation just writes it off as more ESPN hatred for OSU.
Is it possible that the women plays/played soccer in Europe and that he never touched her? Maybe she is just trying to get him red carded?
Will the video be released if charges are filed/not filed?
If so, please do not make it a GIF!
But really I don't even care anymore about Ohio. I wish we had some more updates about the freshmen coming in but instead anything anyone talks about is Ohio related
That isn't true. Look at how much time people spent on Alabama's locker room with and without waterfalls.
I'm Rick James bitch!
Hyde the Video!
How totally and thoroughly disappointed I am in some of the misogynistic caveman bullshit in this thread?
Not to mention, I'm not sure I've ever seen a thread before with so many questions about when and to what extent it is appropriate to hit children and the mentally handicapped.
But it's totally cool to hit them, as long as they hit me first, right? Like, legally, I mean. I get that it's not cool. But I'm totally in the right to hit them back, in the eyes of the law. Even in the face.
Here's the legal deal. Self-defense is a legitimate defense for assault IF:
- The accused faced the risk of imminent physical harm (objective test)
- The accused believed he was at risk of imminent physical harm (subjective test)
- The accused did not create or provoke the threat of physical harm.
- There was no reasonable opportunity to retreat. (Ohio doesn't have a "stand your ground" law, only a "Castle Doctrine" law)
Here, IF THINGS ARE AS REPORTED IN THIS LATEST STORY, then Hyde really doesn't have a defense. He's a large and very strong football player, so there is probably no way he faced an objective threat of harm from an unarmed female. It's hard to imagine he felt threatened by her, again given his size and football-ness. And most importantly, HE COULD HAVE WALKED AWAY. Again, large, strong male with a group of other males being "attacked" by a single female.
But she attacked him first. Doesn't that mean something?
Yes, it does. They BOTH committed assault.
Thanks for this. I apologize deeply for the things on this thread I have said, I had no idea this is how the law works. I figured it was just you hit me and I have the right to hit you n return. I don't want anyone to think or feel like I'm some woman beating, brain dead lunatic of anything of the like. I apologize. Just quite confused by the things I have seen in my personal life and with how the law works along these lines.
I leave you with the wisdom of Chris Rock:
You know what they say, "There's no reason to ever hit a woman." Shit! There's a reason to hit everybody. You just don't do it. Shit, there's a reason to kick an old man down a flight of stairs. You just don't do it.
Yeah, I will definetly keep and use this advice. I really appreaciate it.
Thanks. Out of curiosity, how often are both assailants charged in similar cases? And if you have the breakdown by man vs. man, man vs. woman, woman vs. woman, that'd be interesting as well, although probably unavailable.
Also, how would the situation differ if this took place in a "Stand your ground" state?
I don't have any stats, but my guess would be that typically, unless someone is injured or one party really wants to push the issue, these things tend to go away.
In a "stand your ground" state, everything would be the same, except the obligation to retreat (if possible) wouldn't exist. In other words, he's still have to be threatened and feel threatened, but he wouldn't have to walk away if it were an option.
(Lawnerd follow-up: in some states, "stand your ground" also shifts the burden of proof for self-defense cases. In those states, the accused has to present a prima facia case that they acted in self-defense, and then the burden is on the state to prove that the accused DIDN'T act in self defense.)
site updates, though, so you can be called to service whenever the Board needs you. Anyways, thanks for explaining it. I find this stuff interesting, even if I don't know what I'm talking about.
If Brian is going to put BiSB on retainer, then we're all going to have to man up and click the Bevel Guilt button a lot more.
That's a Bob Loblaw Law Bomb
Just culling from the dankest nugs of the shittiest fanbase in all of sports. Misogyny, victim blaming, and minimization ahoy!
A selection of comments from various Eleven Warriors stories about the Hyde incident (horrific grammar and spelling obviously not mine):
"The bitch is the agressor, but if Drayer's story is correct then [Hyde will] probably miss a couple games."
"Anyway in reference to hitting a chick there are exceptions."
"I hate the fact that he might have thrown away his season. There's very few circumstances when hitting a female is warranted"
"I hate when women assault a man, then hide behind their gender when there might be consequences."
"The fact that she went on vacation immediately AFTER that shows that the ordeal couldn't have been that serious."
"It was so serious that she put a young mans future in jepoardy yet she couldnt delay her vacation?"
"How about just be held accountable for her actions?"
"Women should really think about what they do or say about crying assault or rape."
"I think too many times we give the female species "free passes" on things of this nature."
"I thing she was entitled to get slapped."
As a social worker who has worked with male perpetrators of domestic violence...this is the kind of shit that they say all of the time. Always her fault.
In summation: fuck Ohio State forever and ever. And if you say or think any of these things, fuck you too.
A fanbase just beyond parody
