Why do you think of that when you see Breaston's name?  I think of that when I see Ecker's name

I think, "he was a great player, I just don't know why he wouldn't pitch that ball.  And he ran out of bounds bascially.  why did he do that"

That's not true. Tyler Ecker was one of the better TEs Michigan has ever had. Outside of Joppru and Tuman, I think he's the best TE we've had in the last 30 years or so. It's a shame he's remembered for the Alamo Bowl non-pitch because he had a great career here.

D H-B would be have been a nice fit...

 

my problem with breaston is he has always been weak on the deep ball.  his vision was off here an then inthe NFL.  I'm not saying he can't be productive, I just think we would benefit most by a player to stretch the field opposite of Calvin....

I agree. Colts got him cheap and having a 2 big bodies like that on the outside can help. I think people gave up on him too quickly but Oakland is a truly toxic organization. People thought Woodson and Moss were in the dumps while they were there but their career paths were on the upswing once they left. I'm not comparing DHB to two greats like them but I definitely think he can be productive. Imagine an offense with DHB and Megatron on the outside, Pettigrew (ignore hands made of stone for a moment), Broyles/Burrelson, and Reggie/Leshoure. That's not bad at all. At the very least, with the threat of DHB on the outside, again a big body with speed, teams can't double and triple CJ.

What good is a receiver that cannot catch?

DHB has 140 receptions on 300 targets in 4 years. 47% of the passes his way he catches. 

Breaston has 255 catches in 6 years. In his 1st year he had 8 catches and last year he had 7. so he's had 2 seasons where he has been a non-factor. He was thrown to 412 times for his 255 catches. So 62% of the passes thrown his way he catches. 

I'm not saying the Lions don't need a player like DHB. They absolutely do... But I think if they get Breaston, they get everything that they would get in DHB and then some. Breaston is a deep threat but he does more than just run go-routes all game long. He can play outside and in the slot.. return punts and kicks. I think he's a more diverse weapon that takes more pressure off of CJ than Bey does.

Further, there's nothing to suggest (at least to my knowledge) that DHB had an attitude problem or was disruptive to the locker room nor did he have off the field legal issues. Just was probably drafted too high and Oakland is not exactly a place known for nurturing success.

Well gee in a thread about Steve Breaston working out for the Lions he says, "Yes please, also draft Trey Burke"

1. Nothing I read sounded like sarcasm so I made light of it giving him the benfit of the doubt.

2. Assuming he meant for Detroit (Pistons) to draft him he's a bit late to the party as the NBA draft has been over for a few.

3. Sorry for "improperly" using a phrase in your presence.

Oh right, because whatever the Lions have been doing has been working!

In all honesty, I wish the Lions would have picked him up in the 6th or 7th round last year. Raiola is old, he isn't very good, why not take a chance on Molk in the later rounds, what do you we have to lose for it? He was the Rimington winner as was Raiola and they are about the same size, to me, it made sense. I don't wish for the Lions to take every single Wolverines player, but when I think it's an area of need I'll hope they get a Michigan guy that was an All-American! You must not be a Lions fan to make a remark like this.

the most exciting, but I don't think he ever reached his full potential or impacted the team to the extent that I thought he could.  He had some brilliant games.  Texas Rose Bowl, at Iowa in 05, I was at the aforementioned Illinois game and that was an outstanding return.  But he also disappeared quite a bit too.  He had quite a few highlights against cupcakes but sometimes did not show in big games.  He was a complete non-factor in both games against SC and he called for fair catches all the time with room to spare.  His pro-career validates his talent, but I can't help but remembering his Michigan career as a little bit of a dissapointment.
