OT: Fantasy football site preferences

Submitted by Phil Brickma on

Just curious as to the board's opinion.

I'm setting up a new fantasy football league with some co-workers and am not sure which site to use. I've used ESPN, CBS and Yahoo! in the past. Each has their pros and cons, and I genuinely don't know which to use for this league.

Any thoughts?

Hmmmm...QB won't be a problem, nor will PK or TE. You can probably round up some decent white WRs (you might be lacking in WR1 talent, but you'll have some depth). Assuming you have a team defense, you're probably screwed there. Are there any white RBs that aren't Danny Woodhead (i.e., RBs actually worth playing)?

I used CBS Sports for both regular and college fantasy football, but this year they started charging for college leagues. I found this website called Fantrax (fantrax.com), and that's where I'm doing my college leagues. Not sure if I'm gonna boycott regular fantasy football on CBS or just suck it up and go with it...

I run a 16-team college fantasy league. I used to use U-Sports for college fantasy football but they no longer exist. Then I used CBS for two years and now they are forcing people to pay for it. This will be my first year with Fantrax. The good and bad thing about Fantrax is that their options seem universal - for example all of the salary cap stuff for college players. Makes it confusing to set up. They also don't do player projections from what I can tell, although there are other sites that do. Anyway, I am excited to see how it goes with Fantrax.

We use Yahoo and I like the live scoring, but I liked it much better when it included a chat room. FF is really just an excuse for us to talk shit. The chat went away last year and we almost switched this year, but couldn't find anything that was really better.

I'm happy with Yahoo.  Ever since they made their Live StatTracker free a few years ago, there isn't too much to complain about.  They continue to evolve, adding further customality to their leagues every year in terms of scoring, waivers, keeper leagues, etc.  Public leagues run pretty smoothly and use a pretty traditional scoring system.

RTSports.com

We've used it for 15 years. Easily customizable rules (Even fractional points if you like).  Very responsive if you have questions.  Easy to use interface.  Stores data from previous seasons, so we can look back at our league history.

NFL.com sucks. You cannot even have a Free Agent Watch List on NFL.com. Myfantasyleague.com is good. It doesnt look that great visually and it does cost $$$, however it seems to have a lot of unique features that are actually useful. Yahoo & ESPN are both pretty good and free.

my main league is starting our 11th season with yahoo.

I've also used ESPN, which wasn't bad, but not as good as yahoo in my opinion-- I find the interface much cleaner and intuitive on yahoo.

I've used Yahoo, CBS ports and Fox Sports.  Possibly b/c I used Yahoo for 10 years before using the others, but I much preferred Yahoo.  The interface on CBS was horrrible and Fox Sports didn't add anything extra by far.  Yahoo has the most users by far in this space.  (It's been awhile since I looked, but I think Yahoo has 2 or 3x the users of the next biggest.)

Aside:  I know everyone scores different in their leagues, but I've always used Yahoo's standard scoring, but doubled the points for Defences.   Before we did that the defense was about as valuable as a kicker.  Now people will occassional draft a good defense in the 5th or 6th round.  You also end up rooting for that team quite a bit.

Interesting that nobody has mentioned Flea Flicker.

I have used Flea Flicker for about 5 years and prefer it as my free site of choice.  If you have not looked at it, I would suggest that you check it out.

I have only used ESPN, but I haven't had any problems. We don't do much beyond standard leagues besides adding fractional points and valuing defense a bit more. Works well for a free site.

The best site out there is myfantasyleague.com  it costs like 100 bucks but it can do anything you want it to.  We've always used it for our dynasty league because of how well the site rolls over from year to year.

Fleaflicker is the best free site.  They had some issues last year with the new york storm and I was impressed at how they kept users informed (ultimately there were no problem).

the only site I hate is CBS becuase it cost a ton of money and don't do shit special...  you might as well use yahoo over CBS...

I'm looking to start a dynasty league this season with my buddies.  I'd prefer not to pay a fee to host a league, and just checked out fleaflicker.  Should my league just pony up the money and start with myfantasyleague or use fleaflicker for free?  Any other advice or thoughts?

honestly it comes down to your buy in.  If you aren't playing for more than 100$ then you can go other routes.  But if you are investing a couple hundred and you are playing with a serious league then you should 'protect' your investment, upgrade and go with myfantasyleague.com

read this if you want the information of more serious players:  http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=418753&hl=%2Bbes…
