Maddeningly Under-Researched Albom Column
I know I shouldn't expect anything more from the Freep or Albom than poorly researched articles but it never fails to amaze me that one of the most critically acclaimed sports writers in Detroit and possibly the country is so poorly versed in things that the average sports fan knows.
In today's column Mitch is talking about Tate's nerves of steel in his ascent to awesomeness. He notes (incorrectly) that just last year Tate was carrying his school books down a high school hallway.
Tate was home-schooled.
Maybe I'm so far buried in Mgoblog that I assume things like this are common knowledge, but c'mon, it is Mitch's job to know such things.
At least now we know Mitch's interview with Brian wasn't an act, he really doesn't know anything about mgoblog, which may be more pathetic than lying about it.

Since I live in SD, I can confirm that indeed Scripps Ranch High School does have hallways as opposed to many schools that are merely a collection of trailers placed in some seemingly random pattern. I don't know what 'charter school' he attended.
Can I get a +1 or is this just too worthless?

But I would be more comfortable doing it if you had also thrown in the gratuitious "Well, as a Michigan alumnus because I graduated from Michigan in 19XX, I am quite sure that schools in San Diego have hallways"

Tate refers to his high school experience as home schooling in an espn article despite technically being a charter school. The espn article says the facility had one room, suggesting no hallway.

Tate actually called it "home schooling where the teacher doesn't come to you", which the writer synthesized into "home schooling" in one portion of the article. A charter school is not even close to home schooling, in spite of Tate's epinion on his education.
Also, saying the facility has one room is an exaggeration.

the point was merely to show he was in high school last year. Tate did attend a charter school but it was mostly independent study. My recollection is that he had to meet with his professor a few times per week on campus.
I welcome the day when the failure to clarify in a column not about his high school experience is the worst sin comitted by the Freep.

Andy Reid over at Michigan Daily's article on Pahokee reminded me of Albom before he decided that he has odorless feces. If the freep even exists when Reid graduates, they should show some cojones and give Reid his job.
Albom used to be great when he could actually get a pullover shirt over his head. Now, though, he has pretty much lost his heart for sports and is more of a celebrity than a sportswriter.
He still seems to have passion for writing fiction, though.
