OT(or not): Michigan vs. Ohio High School All Star Game to Kick Off in 2014
This news was broke this morning. Slackers.
Ohio was looking for a contest to replace the previously played annual game against Pennsylvania. Michigan will likely drop the East-West game for this instead.

Highlights:
- The first Michigan-Ohio all-star football game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on June 14, 2014, at Donnell Stadium in Findlay, Ohio
- Both sides will field 40-man rosters. Ohio will announce its team Feb. 8 and Michigan on Feb. 15.
- The name of the game is the Ohio-Michigan High School Football Border Classic
- Visions of having the game at Ohio Stadium, Michigan Stadium or Spartan Stadium are on hold until the NCAA allows a Division I facility to be used.
On paper, Michigan will be the underdog most years. Still, I'm looking forward to see how our Michigan talent measures up. CMIIW, but doesn't the MHSAA restrict live televising of such events? If so, that needs to be changed.
I don't like it, less players will be selected for the All-Star game now which is more or less a fun few days for the players. We'll see I guess, could be wrong but I just think it'd be nice to have more kids to be able to participate in this event.
I hope it takes root and sticks around for a good couple of years.
I suspect Michigan might lose a lot of these unfortunately. Ohio has a lot more FBS-level talent
Michigan will needs its very best out there to compete. Ohio is deeper.
Quantity wise, Ohio just had much more 3* and 4* talent type guys. Seems like Michigan generally produces one 5*, four or five 4*, and then the a handful of 3*. I believe Ohio can reguarly fill out a "Ohio Top 40" list with all 3* talent and up
Tangent: the other week during a 7v7 I spoke with another coach who's team had been punished for being at a camp with a team from Arizona. This particular team (and other Michigan teams present) were all punished for being at the same team camp as a team from outside the 600 mile radius that he MHSAA had inlace. All Michigan teams had no intact with the team from Arizona yet the next week all were informed that they would have to give up one or two (honestly can't remember) 7v7 opportunities the team is officially allowed to enter during the offseason. To make a long story short(er) the MHSAA needs to change many of its ridiculous stipulations in order to ever be as competitive as some of our neighbors.
Rant over. This is something that has bothered me for some time now.
...the future Michigan All Stars have the same mind set as you.
Underdogs everywhere might as well throw in the towel.
hopefully Michigan brings it and can field some pretty good teams. I think the top end talent is pretty much equal most years, its after the top 5 or so in state for Michigan where you see a dramatic dropoff. Ohio has 20 and up solid D-1 players almost every year
The alll-star game would present an unnecessary risk for injury. The outcome of the game itself would be relatively meaningless. The players would have very little to gain from it - most of the players will have already signed LOI's. I imagine the players' college coaches would rather their incoming freshman not participate in it.
what happend to the B33 game?
The MHSAA sucks. Their rules are about as lame as the B1G's old no-repeat rule in the Rose Bowl or no more than 1 B1G team going to a bowl.
And this isn't going to even be a competition. This is like Oklahoma HS'ers going against Texas HSers. OU gets their big guns from their pipeline state where HS football is religion.
High school football in Michigan isn't even close to how serious they take it in Ohio. Every baby born in Massillon, Ohio gets a Massillon Tigers football put in their crib.
It's just going to be some state pride dick measuring contest.
If you want to see a real all-star game, get Ohio vs Texas.
Maybe people in MI should start taking HS football more seriously?
The West side of the state really loves their HSFB. Doesn't produce D1 talent like Ohio does but it still makes its share.
The East side of the state in terms of HSFB interest is dead.
It disgusted me going to and playing for a school on the East side that had arguably the best program in all of the county....historically and recently....and got little to no attention. And the school has only been around since the 70s.
Any idea why PA backed off the game?
improper sanitation issues in the state of Ohio.
