OT: "Nothing to see here" Tigers vs Texas Sunday Open Thread
End of 5th Tigers up 3-0 on homeruns from Hunter, Martinez, and Peralta... But Verlander is back to being dominant.
Edit: Changed Title
I hope it continues, so far this year these performances are followed by shellackings in the next outing. Also, this should be a "nothing to see here" thread...
this won't end well
just win the game that is all that matters...
(pitch count is up... guess JV wont be throwing on Tuesday)
Leyland confirmed JV is not pitching Tuesday and is being replaced on the AL roster by Baltimore SP Chris Tillman.
Chris Tillman of all people?? I mean James Shields (probably wasn't asked because he's pitching today) but Grant Balfour, Derek Holland, hell even Anibal deserves to go before Tillman.
I think its a couple different reasons. First being needing to fill a starting pitcher spot with another starting pitcher so that eliminated Balfour. Shields was eliminated due to pitching today. As for Holland I completely agree guy has been about the only constant for Texas with all their injuries.
EDIT: Balfour was named a replacement also today during the A's / Red Sox game
Yeah, Tillman being on the roster is pretty much a joke.
Dude has been a solid pitcher this year, but no more.
Just posted on the broadcast that he is out. Being replaced by someone from Balt. Could not catch the name
EDIT: beaten by 1 min. I'm a slow typer on the iPad
The someone is Chris Tillman.
As for this game specifically, pretty solid defensive effort through six innings for the Tigers. I would like to see Martinez (or someone) get at least a single deep enough to get another insurance run here, of course.
The interesting stat that was flashed last inning was that only about one-third of JV's pitches have been fastballs this game, if I heard this correctly. That's unusual for him, but it is working.
He still gets to be in unform I would think??
Yes JV will still travel to the All-Star game (same with other injured or pitchers who started today) and are unable to play.
Nothing too still see here.........
Tori Hunter ended up being one hell of a good signing by DD.
Verlander was dominate for 6 innigs against the Sox the other day then got rocked. Leyland has to get the balls/smarts to get him out before he starts to groove that straight heater. Also they have to protect their investment, this John Wayne shit where Verlander won't let Leyland take him out has to stop. He's getting older, alot of innings on that arm (notice the lack of velocity, has it still, just does'nt use it until he's trying overpower and strike someone out in a pinch) and you gotta just know when to call it a day.
Jv has a [redacted] thru six. Yes I'm saying this out loud. Yes I'm a bitter cubs fan stuck in Michigan. Wish soto would've broken it up last inning.

It sucks when people like you are so classless that they root for bad things to happen to a guy who is trying to make history...when they have no skin in the game. Classless.
I take it you were not hugged very much as a child
Jackass!
Good luck with your cubs fandom going forward
Hate to be that guy, but it's 'dominant', not dominate.
Fixed just for you!
Pitch count too high. He won't make it to the 9th anyways.
Tim Lincecum used 148 pitches last night in his No-No. He's going to get about 8 days rest after this start so pitch count might not be an issue.
Tim Lincecum isn't managed by Jim Leyland.
Lincecum has a much more violent delivery too, it was a risky play by Bochy.
Despite his struggles this year, people forget that JV could go on the mound any day and throw that thing-that-shall-not-be-named (avoiding the jinx here). He's still in a class by himself, and I think we'll be talking about him with the likes of Nolan Ryan by the time his career is over.
If he's able to get to the ninth under 120, you probably give him the chance (assuming that thing he has is still intact). Anything more and you have to pull him. Honestly it would probably best a ranger did something they haven't done so far just to make the decision easier.
Blessing in disguise...
Can't disagree but knowing JV's personality it would probably be an even harder choice for Jim to pull JV over any other pitcher.
No hitter thru 6?
There goes that
Rather it be a hard hit ball than a duck snort through the box. Kudos to Justin, he'll get his 3rd another day.
People who quote Hawk Harrelson have no place in this world.
Haha that's fair, but I think that term describes those type of hits really well. Insert "Cram it Hawk" meme here.
Just to remind everyone that an "average" from JV is still way better than 90% of the pitchers in baseball. JV has done enough that he has earned my patience as he works his way back to being "The MAN". Always must see TV.
Smyly has looked real good the first half of the year.
