From the sounds of the comments on the schedule at the bottom of the article, it looks like the two consecutive home games we will be giving to MSU in '13 and '14 will be returned with games at the Big House in '15 and '16. Moving forward, MSU and OSU will be both home in odd years and both away in even years.
Where do you see 2016's MSU game as being in Ann Arbor? I see it in East Lansing.
It's away. Only 15 and 17 are home.
Sorry, meant will NOT
It says we will be on the road against MSU in 2013, 2014, and 2016. It does not sound like the situation will be rectified in the near future, if ever.
or just from the comments? it would suck if that were true. that means that penn state would be your locked in marquis conference home game. i suppose you might also get a wisconsin or nebraska from the other division, but it would nice to have one, good ol' fashioned hate fest at home every year.
I appreciate how they don't guarantee a Home and Away in back to back years for cross-divisional games. The reason being that it allows teams to cycle through opponents quicker. Otherwise, it could be possible to have 4 straight years of missing a team in the other division.
At least this way, we will still see all the cross-divsional teams on a frequent basis, just won't get the Home or Away Return right away.
That's only because '14 and '15 are 8 game schedules. You'll never go more than 2 years without playing an opponent under this system.
Other than one of the Indiana schools, not that anyone will care.
Full schedules (with dates) have been edited into the top of the 1st post.
The B1G will be at 20 teams by 2016, so this is all destined to change.
Wouldn't it be awesome if when the Big 10 expanded again that we got to go to E Lansing two years in a row again?
Here is the full Michigan schedule for 2016/2017 in non-pdf form.
One thing I noticed: they are starting to schedule conference games in the first four weeks of the season. Michigan specifically gets Purdue in week 4 of 2017.
I believe we're supposed to play Cincinnati on September 9th, two week before Purdue that season, which leaves two slots available for OOC games on either side of that game. One thing that is interesting is that the 2016 bye seems to sit in the second week of the season - I can't remember it being that early in a while anyway, although I think that is a quirk of adjusting to the 9-game conference schedule this time.
If you put the conference schedules for the next five seasons next to each other, on most every week after week 9, we are away a majority of the time - 3 times in week 9, 12 and 13 and 4 times in week 11 over the course of the next five years. It also looks like the pattern might end up being 3 at home and 3 away in the division, and then alternating "2 home and 1 away" and "2 away and 1 home" for cross-divisional games.
Hmmm. Looks like we didn't get screwed over. I'll take that.
Keeping OSU and MSU on the same home/away cycle.
The Big Ten completely screwed up our Even year schedules by messing with the MSU game.
We get PSU, Colorado and Wiskey. Since Nebraska gets traded for PSU; that is a wash IMO. Colorado is a shell of its former self but this will still be a bigger game and Wiskey is always tough.
Overall I like 2016 better than 2012 and 2014.
PSU's sanctions will have taken full effect by 2016 after 4 straight classes limited to 15 scholarship counters. Colorado is not a big game. Maybe they get it turned around by 2016. We don't have a single rivalry game on the schedule.
The theme when you say 2016 is better than 2012 and 2014 is that our Even year schedules are terrible now. 2016 is about as good as it will get. They were already imbalanced with OSU and ND in the same year but are even worse now with MSU shifted to even years and ND off the schedule. You cannot replace a rivalry game.
We absolutely need to replace ND with somebody compelling, and at home in even years. The Utah's and Colorado's of the world do not get it done. It needs to be somebody high-profile.
We are still getting stuck with MSU and OSU "home" years and "away" years. All to somehow satisfy schedulers who don't want any of UM, MSU, PSU or OSU to have to face all three of the others on the road. At least that is what I heard.
Can anybody explain how Brandon was forced, at gunpoint, to agree to this long-term rotten scheduling? Because if it wasn't at gunpoint, I'm not sure how it was that he agreed to it, and then agreed not to publicly complain about it.
I'll blame Brandon, until and unless Brandon points the finger clearly at somebody else and explains it.
God, I hate Penn State and everything they have brought to this Conference.
OSU and PSU. That is much better than OSU and moo u IMO. I hoped moo u would get moved to the west like they wanted. Maybe with future expansion, they will.
Maybe we can get something going with them. Call it the Land Grant Trophy, and work up a beautiful piece of artwork like so:
OSU has Michigan home one year and then PSU & MSU home the following year. That is the schedule Michigan should have received but somehow did not.
For calling it out more succinctly than I did. Does it seem that OSU's UM/MSU rotation was elevated above the priority of Michigan's MSU/OSU rotation? Again, it seems like the old 10-team Big Ten status quo in scheudling was all upset to accomdate PSU (primarily) and OSU (secondarily).
I'll blame Brandon, until and unless Brandon points the finger clearly at somebody else and explains it.
Did you miss that part?
Let Brandon tell us why he is not to blame. Explain in detail what principle forces us to move off of our traditional rotation of OSU and MSU, the two most popular games on a future no-ND schedule.
If Brandon can do that, then we will know who to blame.
"If you don't like the way things shook out, don't blame the league office. Remember that the conference athletic directors approved all of the guiding principals that went into the schedule."
when he doesn't have the balls to put his all time winningest program, giant budget, biggest stadium out there and shove around the rest of the mickeymouse programs in this conference. i know that every seat at the conference table is equal, its just that UM's seat is probably a little more cushioned and offers 17 points of adjustment and has a mesh back so we don't get too sweaty.
i know that brandon and the rest of the conference gets is jollies off of media sales these days, but everything they have now was built on the backs of ticket sales and to stick the foundation of your program with anything less that ideal falls on him.
The back end of this year's schedule will be tough.
If you are going to have Ohio and MSU be away/home in the same year at least they are both home when there are only 4 home games and both away when there are 5 home games. I think that is a good way to keep the schedule difficulty more level from year to year.
Good insight.
I would venture to guess that Brandon only agreed to the MSU/OSU home and away in the same seasons if the east division was guaranteed five home conference games in even years to offset the loss of both traditional rivals coming to Michigan Stadium.
I think Rutgers will be a good game to watch going forward. They'll probably be better than MSU (although not a rivalry game) and PSU (in the near term until they recover from their sanctions).
That will be interesting to watch, but I have a feeling Rutgers will be...Rutgers. They come from a terrible conference with weak competition. I recall PSU faring much better before they joined the B1G years back. In comparison, Rutgers is a nothing trying to make the same jump. I guess it's the same complaint many of us have lodged (though there's really no point) - c'mon, Rutgers? And Maryland? Sounds like Illinois and Indiana to me.
Who's Wisconsin?
Seeing as how the crossovers will be 1 home&home + 2 rotating, it looks like the top schools from each division will be guaranteed home & home games with each other whenever they are available.
Notice how Michigan skips Nebraska on the 2017 schedule, suggesting that they will be part of the h&h in 2018.
I'm 90% sure that the 2019-20 schedule crossover for Michigan will be
2019: Neb, @NW, Illinois
2020:@Neb, Iowa(next h&h), @Minn
You should have a giant asterisk after saying "90% sure" with the caveat that this assumes the conference membership does not change before 2019 (which seems like a 10% chance.) So, you should really be about 9% sure.
I updated the Wiki.
Seth, you may want to consider adding the Arkansas series to the wiki as well:
U-M also announced a home-and-home series with Arkansas to open the 2018 and '19 seasons. The Wolverines will host Arkansas at the Big House in the season opener on Sept. 1, 2018, with a return trip to Fayetteville, Ark., scheduled for Aug. 31, 2019.

good call.
Living in Madison, this news pleases me. I don't care about anything else. I don't care if we're getting screwed by horrible crossover scheduling. I just want to see the winged helmet in Madison every few years. It's all about me.
Lol that's the same justification that the DC and NYC folks used about being excited for Maryland and Rutgers joining the B1G.
Exactly the same sentiment. It sucks that I've lived in a Big 10 city for the past 10+ years and feel like UW and UM are in completely different conferences. So welcome NYC and DC markets...thanks for further clouding up my ability to see UM play in a B1G city!
Is it still ok to be super pissed that we go to East Lansing twice in a row? Ok, thought so. Of all the teams to make us play @ twice in a row, they figured MSU? I would've preferred us going to anyone else but OSU twice in a row. Hell, send us to Iowa City or Bloomington in 4 straight years, just don't screw us over in a rivalry series and give me my back a non-awful even year home schedule
