OT- Nick Swisher goes full Bro-h-i-o

Submitted by WMUgoblue on

In case you missed it, quite a rare and funny play happened in the Tigers-Indians game tonight. Nick Swisher got caught not running out a grounder down the line and payed the price in a closely contested game.

I know he played at OSU and is from Columbus (and that I am going to get negged to bolivian for this), but there is something about that guy that seems kind of likable to me. He just seems like a funny, down to earth guy who would be an absolute hoot when sitting down and having a beer.

Now I want to state that I don't know much about him (just what I see on interviews and during games), but I always get a kick out of him. And hey...if you keep your cooler locked there's probably no harm in chilling out with the guy and having a few beers.

Anyway, that is just my thoughts on Swisher. He seems like a funny guy to me.

if you watch him as he sets up at the plate he always looks up out of the corner of his eyes toward right field and has a hilarious smirk on his face. Every time I have ever watched him he does it and it cracks me up.

Also, as a Jays fan I got to watch him a fair amount while with the Yanks and as you say, he just looks like he is always having a good time. I even saw him get brushed off the plate with some pretty hard and close chin music, only to get up, dust himself off and smirk at the pitcher. Not in a threatening way, just in a "you almost got me there" sort of way. He just seems pretty funny to me.

As to the comment above about him being a dumb jock...I get a little tired of people thinking those two things have to go hand in hand. I would bet that most people would have characterized me and many of my friends as jocks in HS and lots were pretty damn smart. Admittedly I dropped out of school the first time around, but many of them went on to university and did very well. I think it is pretty clear these days that people can play sports and be smart too. Now whether that applies to Swisher I have no idea. I just think he seems like a fun guy.

Edit: Also, if that gif of him falling down rounding third went a little further I would bet (based on what I have seen of him in my time watching the guy play) he would have been laughing at himself pretty hard. I like people that can laugh at themselves, I think it's a good trait.

Swisher had a habit of hitting walk-off homers against my team in college. At one point one of our upperclassmen pitchers decided to throw a little chin music to try and back Swisher off. All of the Bros on the Ohio bench were moving to charge the field and fight it out. Swisher kept calm and actually came off pretty mature by calming down his dugout and defusing the situation. There was not even retaliation from their pitcher. I'm sure Swisher has no problem being an idiot and getting silly. He did play his whole junior season with a Joe Dirt mullet. But I have never seen him act like a brat the 6-8 games I have played against him.
