""We've beaten Michigan for the short term, but like any rival, there's a chance it can come back," Troy said."

Thanks for sharing this story, OP.

As far as this particular incarnation of Michigan, I hope it never returns and Grant lives a long and healthy life from here on out. Hopefully, the only Michigan he sees from now on is on the field or on the court somewhere. Good luck to this young man.

The only time I will ever say this.

Someone needs to make this kid a maize and blue shirt that says something like "Beat Michigan! Go Grant! M CLUB (or UM) SUPPORTS YOU!"

I thought to myself "there's never been a good Ohio State beats Michigan story" and that still holds true since this kid is not Ohio State!

And happy no one on here is blaiming the refs or the OC for the loss, though now that I bring it up...

I think I've heard of things like this before (actually, I may have heard of a "beat Ohio" slogan coming from Mott), but I think it's something that is great for the kid, to give it a bit more of an upbeat and positive outlook on what's happening. Sometimes, it's truly amazing what just a positive outlook can do in these situations. Yes, I just went all Patch Adams up in here.

Reminds me of a joke my Buckeye mother told me once...

A young child abused by his OSU parents had to go to court so that he could be put into the care of other family members.  He had two options: live with his Michigan grandparents or live with his Ohio grandparents.

After careful consideration, he elected to live with his Michigan side of the family.  Everyone was stunned, since he was a Buckeye through and through, and they asked him why.  He answered that he was there because his OSU parents used to beat him, and he firmly believed that Michigan is not capable of beating anybody.

On that cheerful note, congrats to the kid for beating cancer.  May he live long and happily.

First off, good story and I hope the kid makes a full recovery.

Howeva, if this kid was smart, he would have named it after a disease that was easy to beat, like the flu or something.  Instead, he named "Michigan" after a disease that is extremely difficult to beat and wins more often than not against any opponent.  In the end, he really just gave Michigan a huge complement.  Thanks kid!

If I was suffering from a bout of syphillis (catch it from trashy people, utterly annoying, and easy to beat), I would definitely name it Ohio.

I get the underlying humor/ slight sarcasm you may be trying to convey.  But where's the  physical, mental and emotional motivation to beat an opponent that you don't truly deem worthy?  If I have the flu, sure, I'll try to fight it.  But really, I everything I do for it is just to make me feel comfortable as I know the sickness will eventually pass.  Additionally, an inferior opponent that doesn't get any respect is the one that can have a fighting chance to win just based on the fact that you don't take them seriously.  Hoke and every other coach/player will say they'll prepare for Akron the same way we prepare for ND, but do you honestly believe for a second that's completely true?

Having a worthy, despised (yet oddly respected) opponent like Michigan as your foe only makes sense.  A fight that you could very well lose, where so much is on the line, is a fight you'll put every ounce of your strength in to winning.

Good for him.  May his own personal "Michigan" continue to stay beat down, and may he be around to witness the Wolverines beat up on OSU many, many times on the football field.

I'm sure brain cancer is one bitch of a disease. Anything that motivated this kid is fine with me.

I hope he can live an ordinary life from here out!

Although I'll find it hard to be upset for the kid if Michigan breaks his heart by beating Ohio year after year.

If this kid was a Michigan fan that said it was Ohio or staee those 2 fan bases would probably wish the worst on the kid.. Good Luck kid!

Over on 11 Warriors thread about this, a poster mentions how his son knows the kid, and that the surgeon who treated the tumor (and did an overall exceptional job) was a UofM med-school graduate.

Some very classy posts over there, and nice that fans can put rivalry aside for the more important things in life.

Well played, son. Well played, indeed. I guess that's the one time in my life where I will root for Michigan to lose.

Note to self: refer to all future sicknesses as Ohio States.

Not impressed.  I've already been referring to my dong as "Ohio" for a couple years now.

Having cancer and being 12 is no excuse for being less clever than my infantile masturbation jokes.
