OT: From Nirvana to Soundgarden to Special Forces hero- an incredible read

Seattle Grunge has a place in my heart since its emergence coincided with my time in AA so I personally find these stories a bit more interesting. However, regardless of perspective, this is one of the absolute craziest stories of a man who went from touring as a guitarist in two of the biggest bands to a war hero on multiple tours of duty in the Special Forces. It is honestly hard to get your head around his journey.

This was a great article and I am glad that you thought to post it here.

(I too was in AA as an undergrad during the whole grunge scene.  Still love listening to it.)

The author totally missed the opportunity to find out how Courtney Love killed Kurt Cobain. That's the information I REALLY want to know.

Great read! Thank you, this story brought me back to my youth. The excitement of going to the record store. I will never forget that! One of my first jobs, I worked in a record store. It was during the grunge era.

It's definitely more convenient, today, to be able to download MP3s of an album on the day of the release, but I'm glad I got to go to midnight releases at the long-gone record stores that were on South U 15-20 years ago.

Wait in line with fellow geeked up fans for an hour or so about why you think the record will be great/suck, buy 'Superunknown' or 'BloodSugerSexMagick,' and then listen it to it for a few hours into the wee hours while you played Sega Genesis hockey. Good times.

I agree with everything you said! Even the part about playing Saga hockey! I working in a small town record store, during my middle school to early high school years. I will never forget buying CD's as soon as I was paid! I never forget buying Pearl Jam's Jeremy, Alice in Chains Dirt, RHCP BloodSugarSexMagic, etc. The MP3/iTunes era is great. But I can honestly say, I miss the experience of going to the record store on release day to get new music. From my favorite bands.

but I had to sign in and say thanks for the article. It was an awesome read. Pretty inspirational... not many people would rebound the way he did from being bounced out of two of the biggest bands of the 90's.. and nirvana obviously being the monster that it is still.

to attend for family next month.   i know the drill with those guys, but i've never heard any of them tell me they were band members before service.  that is definitely a unique story, glad he's still around to tell it.

as a humorous aside, rangers are fond of listing their occupation as 'seal rescuer', commenting about getting the seals out of tough spots they didn't properly plan for.
