OT Dan Dakich at it again
Everyone's favorite radio personality is at it again. This guy really needs to stop searching twitter for his name.
The kid he called out is co-hosting the show with him on Tuesday. Hopefully it leads to him getting a gig far away from 97.1 in either Detroit or Columbus.
First of all, creating a thread about Dan on a well-known M blog is exactly what he wants because it causes people to interact with him, which in turn leads to more people listening to his show. This is like Drew Sharp...he knows he is a prick, but likes it that way and so do their bosses.
Second of all, if he can't handle the "bad mouting," then he needs to get off Twitter and grow some thicker skin. He is using his position as a radio guy to attempt to make himself look better because he knows you won't be able to respond again. I highly doubt he would put you on the air because he is a scared coward.
I'm not the kid that tweeted about him. But, he is putting the kid on the air. While Dan might think that any publicity is good publicity, that link doesn't line his pockets, so I don't mind posting it. What concerns me is that he is going to be linked to Michigan in the coming years through his son. Also the concern that his son is, in fact his son. I really hope he isn't like dad.
Sorry, I didn't mean "you" literally.
He takes after his mom.
Is a tool. He can't take any criticism. I tweeted at him during a game where he had Illinois or someone higher then Michigan in his top 5. I told him his top 5 was a joke after Michigan punk Illinois. He then blocked me. Seems like a guy who burns bridges.
And yet, Michigan was playing like crap and Illinois had just beat Indiana IIRC.
You complained at him about his opinion on how teams were playing and he blocked you. Complaining about a person's personal power rankings is about the dumbest thing I think fans do. It doesn't matter. If it matters enough to you to complain about it on Twitter, then I'd probably block you from my Twitter as well.
Sorry Mr Perfect, but you put something out there in the media and have a high self value you deserve to get punked. A real man would take it in stride and move on. The fact he blocked my comment shows he can't handle the criticism he dishes out to others.
Mr. Perfect was sweet but for my money I am always going Hacksaw Jim Duggan
I was always fond of the soothing voice of Mick Foley.
He did the same thing to me. I called him out on twitter without directly tweeting at him. I basically said his power rankings with IU above Ohio is a joke since two days earlier IU lost to Ohio going by his algorithm of dropping teams below the team they lost to recently. He called me out on twitter saying high school educators should stay out of sports and he blocked me. For a so called respected media member he is VERY immature and has a major inferiority complex.
Frankly with the way he searches twitter for his name points toward psychological issues he need to work out.
Professor X? The Overseer? To the east my brother to the east ...
That comment was brought courtesy of the red, the black, the green with a key you sissyyyyyy!!
I wish we could all just call him an idiot but with his son on the team, it feels more uncomfortable to make fun of a players dad
I can't read that exchange in any positive light, I simply cannot comprehend the way the guy works. Maybe he gets great numbers, but wow, not too excited about his baggage.
DDK3H. Allegedly.
What a fuking clown. Bullying kids and making fun of former players on Twitter. IU couldn't get rid of him fast enough
Dan Dakich's son plays for Michigan.
I don't care if he's in the wrong or not, but I propose that we simply do not discuss Dan Dakich at all. Put it right in there with Politics and religion.
Pussy. I don't care who his son is. If Hitler's great-great grandson played for Michigan, are you suddenly "okay" with what Hitler did? Yiu get my point...
Just locking this in. No further comment.
Dude went Hitler in one comment. Escalation: hyperbolic.
Not to mention requesting someone get a sex change. You know how expensive those are?!
He must have that dope health insurance (no polo).
So which is it? Grow a male genitalia or a female one? Also a Hitler reference and a complete misspelling. Just amazing.
screw that. Dan is an asbolute joke of a member of the media. I have high school students that show more emotional maturity than Dan.
I would say that is all true. I just don't think here, at MGoBlog, it does us any good to bring it up when you consider his son plays for the team. There are plenty of other places we can talk about Dakich's "alleged" asshattery.
I couldn't care less if his son plays for Beilein. Dan is one of the most unprofessional "adults" I have encountered on twitter. If he doesn't clean up his act on social media accounts, he will be calling high school basketball games on AM radio in short time.
I feel bad for his son.
Exactly, I feel bad for his son too. Knowing that Dan Dakich's behavior isn't going to change based on what commentors say on MGoBlog, but also knowing that his son may very well read MGoBlog, I'd say we just cause less stress for an M athlete and not discuss it.
For M Athletes?
So we can't talk about anyone who plays badly, or is getting passed up, or does something wrong? If he can't take someone classing out his dad for bad behavior, how about the roasting guys like Russell Belomy have gotten on here? If we start banning topics like this, where does it end?
Those are completely different situations. Did Andrew Dakich cause any of this? No.
But to answer your question: Yeah, I don't think the blog should cause undue stress for M athletes.
(Especially when this blog and its proprietors' incomes exists thanks to the athletes and the institution).
Who is to decide what undue stress is? What if the player's dad is a coach? We can't offer commentary there, either? Player's dads who are ex-pros or ex-players? If somebody they know gets arrested, we should keep it quiet? Sounds like a lot of gray area.
And your last point is non-sensical, because all media makes its income due to the athletes and their institutions. And in return the athletes and institutions make their money and get their scholarships due to the fan interest in paying to watch those teams, getting their information through the media.
It's just a stupid discussion to have regardless.
"X said Y, what a tool" when X is not associated to the UM is not a topic I would have thought is board-worthy, even in the off-season.
Bender. Careful what you wish for.
Edit: As usual, as comments carry over onto a new page, the threading is all f'd up. This was in reply to an earlier comment of yours.
but we, as Michigan fans, find ourselves in a tough situation when discussing Dan. Since we know some football players have been around these parts, who's to say Andrew (Dakich) won't also come on here and find that all of the basketball team's fans are also mocking his dad.
Just an awkward situation for us, I suppose I kind of agree that Dan Dakich should just get the Religion-Politics treatment
posters regularly take shots at Dave Brandon, RichRod, Lloyd Carr, Tim Hardaway etc etc etc--even Denard and Trey have their detractors--but somehow we can't touch Dan Dakich for a truly douchy thing....cuz his kid has walked on the BB team.
They are different situations. Andrew Dakich isn't in control of anything his father stupidly does.
Dave Brandon, Rich Rod, Lloyd are all (well) paid public figures with very public positions. Criticism of their actions is expected there and even then at this blog it should be criticism that is informed and educated. (Note I left THJr off this. "Criticizing" players is a very touchy subject and should be done very carefully and not personally.)
Bringing up everything Dan Dakich says on his radio show and calling him "Dickich" serves no purpose whatsoever. It has nothing to do with Michigan athletics at all and when you throw the fact that his son plays for the team into consideration, then no I don't think we should bother. Again, what is constructive about this discussion right now?
that's even further removed. No one is mocking Andrew. So your thesis is that its okay to mock an actual Michigan player(and I mentioned Trey and Denard--so you cherry-picked the paid ones), but not the father of a player whose douchiness was well-established long before his son arrived on the scene.
I don't understand your comment. I believe players should never be criticized for anything they do on the field. That's my personal belief. I understand, however, that you can tactfully judge the performance of a player (as Brian does in UFRs) without getting personal. That's what I meant.
The thing is that so many of the Dakich attacks are personal. This all started when Dakich rated M a few spots lower than what we believe they should have been ranked and people flipped their collective shit and did very RCMB-like things such as calling him "Dickich" and the like. And this was for having an opinion that was actually pretty defendable.
Since, Dan Dakich has done some dumb things on Twitter (I mean, he really has no idea how Twitter works, or maybe more likely, he has no idea how people interact on Twitter). However, I believe people are still resorting to personal attacks, often in a childish manner, which is the main reason I hate it when anybody posts something about Dakich. Plus, now that his son plays for us, I thought it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world if we just simply didn't discuss Dan Dakich's asshattery on MGoBlog. I really think it accomplishes absolutely nothing. Going by this thread, I think that statement is supported.
I certainly said nothing of "mocking" Michigan players. I don't understand how you made that false connection. And I'm confused by what you mean when you say I cherry-picked Trey and Denard as I previously made no mention of them either. I choose my wording carefuly and I think if you re-read my comment, I'm not suggesting anything that is immensely rash.
Was Tim Hardaway Jr. in control of anything his dad said? We had no issues talking about any of that. How about Braylon or Stan Edwards? The Borens? Where does one draw that line?
I don't remember any of those instances in great detail, other than the Borens and some of Stan Edwards.
However, those were all people who said stuff that was actually on the topic of Michigan and/or Michigan football. Perhaps that's where the line is drawn?
My point originally was not to stop talking about Dan Dakich solely because his son plays here. That's what people have picked up on, but it's not the main reason I think this topic is not board worthy. I don't think it's board-worthy because:
- It has nothing to do with Michigan
- It is total Flamebait: "Look at the tool Dickich at it again"
- People are irrational about it b/c he once ranked M below UW and ILL, even though he based the rankings on how teams were currently playing
- His son plays for Michigan and it seems slightly in bad taste
I'm a little surprised so many people are jumping on me for this, but perhaps I did not explain my view very well. Hopefully, this helps. And if it doesn't, hopefully this will at least make you laugh:
This thread with an un-subjective opinion and open mind about Dako h. I now have found out that he is a complete ass-clown, a cowardly one at that. He appearantly "gets off" on having the power of being a part of the media. No pun-intended.
Dakich*
you had an un-subjective opinion? So that means you had an objective opinion about him?
English is awesome.
jdon
and I don't know anythingabout the guy, but my best guess is that he's playing a "persona" on the radio in order to get more listeners and make money.
It's probably just an act, like 99% of all TV commentators.
I wish I could believe that, but there are just too many examples, mostly on Twitter, and many that don't relate at all to his radio show at all.
Great. You guys used the D word enough already that he's probably lurking here as we speak, gathering intel for today's broadcast. He knows the heads of ESPN and NBC. You've doomed us all.
for me to get my 15 minutes of fame, is to just go on twitter and just spew Dan Dakich hatred for days and days. It's inevitable that I'll get an on-air tirade devoted to me at some point
Yes Dakish is an immature, hyper-sensitive guy who probably shouldnt play on Twitter anymore. HOWEVA.....if he actually gives the kid airtime as promised and if the kid is any good at all he probably just gave him a shot at an actual job in a very competitive field. Somebody will pick this kid up just for the publicity it will create and for a kid right out of college that is not a bad thing at all.
