hire away WVU's prez, just to be dicks.
Second choice, bring back Lee Bollinger, he was the MAN!!

My freshman year orientation speech LB raised the roof in Hill Auditorium. Telling people not to study too much and to enjoy all that Ann Arbor has to offer.
Maybe he could bring Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to AA?

I was actually thinking of going to the Rutgers game against WV in December wearing my Michigan gear. I just don't know if there is any way to get to Rutgers Stadium from Manhattan easily through public transportation.

Hats off to you sir, I think you might have set a new record for posbanging.

Bollinger was the Bill Frieder of university presidents, interviewing for other jobs behind our backs. He also gave his approval to the halo. Columbia can have him.

I agree. Bollinger was the man. He was my professor for a legal theories class my senior year of undergrad. Cool guy.

This is why the NCAA is so fucked up.
September 17th, 2009 at 9:49 PM ^
Don't see how that could hurt what's going on with the "practice" investigation

i disagree. she'd have to be harder on us than a person with no connection to UM to avoid the appearance of partiality. she's been a good president. i hope she stays.

Also, I've heard there is an article on the homepage of the newspaper-whose-name-we-dare-not-speak.
September 17th, 2009 at 10:13 PM ^
i went to the freep so you all don't have to. there's an article that says "[Mary Sue Coleman] chuckled at reports she could be a possible successor to Myles Brand, the NCAA president who died Wednesday of cancer."
also she said after someone asked her if she was going to take the job she said "I hadn't seen that"
September 17th, 2009 at 10:03 PM ^
Condoleezza Rice would be an interesting choice to replace Brand. She was thrown around as Pac-10 commissioner after she left the White House administration. She has an academic official background with her provost time at Stanford. She's also been on record as wanting to manage a sports team, as she's a huge sports fan.

Sounds like that was USA TODAY picking names from a hat. The Freep said she laughed off the rumors at the regent's mtg.

(Sorry for the Freep link, but it was the only one i found. Don't click, article doesn't say much!)

I think Coleman has done a great job at UofM. Selfishly, I would like her to stay at UofM!
September 17th, 2009 at 10:12 PM ^
I'm just saying.
September 17th, 2009 at 10:52 PM ^
I doubt Lloyd would want to do it, but there aren't many men with the knowledge and integrity that the job really demands, and he's one of them.
September 17th, 2009 at 11:30 PM ^
He has both the knowledge and integrity. And there are not many people who do.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:13 AM ^
YES.
YES.
LLOYD CARR HAS THE KNOWLEDGE.
YES.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:36 AM ^
Lloyd is very much enjoying his semi-retirement!
September 18th, 2009 at 11:02 AM ^
i don't think there's anything lloyd would enjoy less. among other things, this job requires a relationship with the media.
September 17th, 2009 at 11:08 PM ^
Yeah, that's never happening.

As someone who spent 10 years at Michigan (less than half as a student, the rest as staff) this does not surprise me. She is a charming woman and really has the ability to mold situations to her will. I think the Big10, despite its national struggles in the power sports, is a good source for NCAA leadership. We are (mostly) comprised of top notch schools but can still pull off major college sports with major dollars behind them. Brand came from Indiana and Ohio State. Ms. Coleman is president at one of the highest profile schools and came from Iowa.
I think Brand's legacy will keep our profile high. That does not mean she is actually being considered.
We will know for sure if this is dead if Herbsteit breaks the story though.
