Slightly OT - Accomodations for the UConn Game

Submitted by Arizona Blue on

Hello MGOBoard,

I am a NYC based Alumni looking to make the trip from the city to Storrs, CT for the game.

I was wondering if anyone has looked into accomodations / transportation options and could provide some recomendations.

Thanks for your help!

We are staying at the Hilton at 315 Trumbull St.

I can't tell you anything about the area, or if that is the right place to stay, but that is where we are staying.  Keep in mind that the stadium is NOT in Storrs.

My company, Sports Power Weekends, is running roundtrip coach buses from NYC to East Hartford for the game.

Check it out here: http://www.sportspowerweekends.com/bus-from-nyc-for-michigan-at-uconn

We are going to arrive three hours prior to kickoff to allow for tailgating, and will return shortly after the game. No need to find a car or designated driver, pay for gas and parking, etc. We've got it all covered. Contact me through the site if you have any questions!

I will be driving in from New Haven, which is only about a 45-50 minute drive.  There is a guide to the stadium which includes directions, hotels in the area, etc.  But, it doens't suggest the best way to get there assuming you don't want to drive which it sounds like.

I know people take the train in and out of the city all the time, I just don't know how far up CT the train goes.  I'll check and get back to you.  I beleive it goes to New Haven (and a 45-min cab ride is a no go), but kinda doubt it goes to the Hartford area...lemme check.

You can take the train from NYC but you have to switch trains in New Haven usually. If you book early on Amtrak it's usually not that expensive. There's no train that goes from Hartford to East Hartford. There is a bus but I'm not sure how long it would take or where exactly it stops in downtown assuming you stay in Hartford (which I would, East Hartford is kind of a shithole).

To be honest, I can't figure out this website.  One the one hand the map says there is a train station in Hartford, on the other I don't see Hartford as a destination from Grand Central. Anyways, have a look around the site and see if you can take the train.  If not renting a car would be easy too and there are plenty of directions on how to get to the stadium and many rentals come with GPS, I know Hertz does.

I've never sat in 200, but I sat in 221 (other side of field and further towards the end zone) and it was good.  I personally don't think there are any bad seats as I have sat a few places and always had a good view.  Ovbiously the corner of the end zones are the worst, but been there although close to the field and it was still worth it IMO.

Has the game time been announced yet? It's still showing up as TBA on mgoblue. Kickoff time will help determine if we stay Fri night or Sat.
