BBall Freshmen on Campus
Donnal looks all of 6 ft 9.
If Irvin is really 6'6" then Donnall looks to be pushing 7'.
As did I, but at second glance Donnal is standing about a foots length in front of Irvin due to their semi circle formation (Borges does not run this). So take that for what you will, still towering over Dakich, however
But get those young men to the nearest buffet fast. B1G season will not be kind unless they all put on a few lbs.
at 6-9 and 230, which isn't bad, if it's accurate. Scout had him listed at 215, and Rivals at 200 while he was beng recruited, so if the roster weight really is current, he's already bulked up a bit. Irvin and Walton are listed at 200, which is in line with Stauskas and LeVert.
LeVert is razor thin. Homeboy needs a sandwich.
LeVert is the kind of guy I see sticking around 4 years, and getting stronger and better every year.
Trivia: It appears that Donnal's older brother (a 4-star O-lineman) got an offer from RichRod back in '10:

Imagine the grocery bill in that house.
Fortunately, Donnal is a candidate for a redshirt, what with Morgan (Sr.), Horford (Jr.) Bielfeldt (So.) and McGary (So.) ahead of him.
With Morgan and potentially McGary gone after next year I would let Donnal play to get used to the rigors of the B10.
So many people think Donnal is a lock to redshirt, I really see a possibility of his year going the way of Caris Levert's last season. Particularly if one of the bigs gets injured, I don't see Donnal staying out the whole year.
But the difference there is that LeVert took the place of a walk-on (Akunne) in the rotation. We have much better depth in the post for 2013-14. Even Bielfeldt may not get that much PT.
That can give us a stretch four at 6'9 or taller who can hit the outside shot like Donnal can.
He took Vogrich's spot as I remember.
How much playing time can you realistically give five big men? Unless one of the other four gets hurt, it's really hard to imagine him getting any non-garbage minutes. Mop-up duty won't do a whole lot to prepare a guy for the B1G.
But this also doesn't take into account the fact that Donnal is a much different player from all of Michigan's other bigs. Horford, Morgan, and Bielfeldt are very limited offensively. McGary is developing his game, but even he doesn't have the offensive weapons of Donnal. The redshirt thing seems likely, but if Michigan actually plays a two big lineup for the season, Donnal probably will get some time because the offensive efficency will tank without somebody doing some damage at the 4.
will depend as much on how well he plays defense as offense. Beilein has said that the best way for a freshman to see the floor a lot is to get it done at the defensive end. I think we'll depend on the backcourt and Robinson, with McGary, for most of our offensive production, and the other bigs mainly for rebounding and inside D. That being said, I can see Donnal presenting some real matchup problems if he can step outside and hit threes consistently.
We won't really know until we see Donnal in a game. If his O translates to college and he plays decent D he will get some time. Unless Morgan, and to a lesser extent McGary, become less foul prone Donnal might get some key minutes.
Horford/Morgan, 25/15 split at the 5.
McGary/Donnal, 30/10 split at the 4.
Spike and Caris didn't get a ton of minutes this year, but I think they got enough to get acclimated.
Where's Bielfeldt in that rotation? You don't think he'll play at all?
Not to mention that it assumes that we'll go with 2 bigs 100% of the time, which I doubt.
all the time. And if we did, that would squeeze the minutes pretty tight for SG and SF. If we assume that Albrecht and Walton split 40 minutes between them somehow, that would only leave 80 for Robinson, Stauskas, LeVert and Irvin to divide, and Robinson and Stauskas averaged about 64 together last year.
Not a bad thing, though, for there to be healthy competition for playing time everywhere.
Wow, deja vu from last yr. looks good
Bring us a title, lads!
mgoblue.com press release: Dakich, McConnell Join Wolverine Program as Walk-Ons
Baumgardner article: Michigan formally adds walk-on guards Cole McConnell and Andrew Dakich
McConnell, a 6-foot-5 guard from the New Hampton School -- a post-graduate institution -- averaged 15.9 points and 4.4 rebounds last season, hitting 98 3-pointers. His 3-po;int total ranked second among all high school players in the state of California, and he was named the Mateo County Player of the Year.
McConnell had Ivy League interest, and has two brothers (Redd and Will) who play college basketball at the University of California-Irvine and Dartmouth, respectively.
. . .
Earlier this week, Beilein said he'd like to get his roster up to 15 players for next season -- which means Michigan may add two more walk-ons once the fall begins.
again in 12 months after a year in the weight room
Donnal looks like a father headed out to Chuck E. Cheese with his kids.
While looking up info on the walk-ons I skipped across the WWW and found this:

If I connected the dots correctly, Cole's parents endowed an LS&A scholarship. (There's a blurb on it in the article.) Pretty cool ...
If i didnt know I would say Mitch is about 15 in that picture
awww... they grow up so fast.
Didn't the football players arrive yesterday and today?
