Although the role that introduced James Gandolfini to wide movie audiences was Virgil in "True Romance", as well as roles in movies like "Get Shorty" and "Crimson Tide", he is inextricably tied to one of the most successful and talked about series in the last 20 years if not ever. He really was very talented.
Very tragic news - 51 is far too young. His daughter was only born last October too. Condolences to his family and friends.
He was also very good in The Last Castle with Robert Reford and a few other people. Very good movie IMO.
While he is and always will be Tony Soprano, I'll never forget the fight scene when Virgil beats the crap out of Patricia Arquette in True Romance. One of the most brutal fight scenes ever made. Sad to see such talent go so soon.
to give him one good shot was so good-humored, and yet so ill-fated. That scene should be played in the locker room of every underdog getting beat at halftime. Belief in yourself/desperation and one well-placed shot can turn the tide.
and he did so much for Manic depression and his hbo documentary on PTS was fantastic. From what I heard he was a very nice man too. RIP.
Gandolfini was a Rutgers alum and supporter of the football program going so far as to make several commercials. Very sad news. He will be missed.
I'm so broken hearted, I loved his acting and I loved him in the role of Tony Soprano, so sad right now. I guess he was working on a new HBO series too. he wil be missed.
