Coolest/favorite Michigan thing you own?

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

I would say probably the coolest MIchigan thing I own is a tie between a program from the first game in Michigan against Ohio Wesleyan in 1927 and a piece of the All-Pro Turf that was in The Big House from 1982-1990.

I got the program from Ann Arbor Sports Memorabilia. It is an amazing underground shop in Ann Arbor that has programs, buttons, cards and everything else you can think of that is Michigan.

What is the coolest or your favorite Michigan thing you own? Pics would be great.

I have a Michigan letter sweater and an M blanket, both of which I received in the mid-50's as a member of the basketball team. They're still in excellent condition, mainly because they've resided in my closet for 60+ years.

back from 1947 or 1948 my grandpa gave me. He's stiff armor that guy who tried to tackle him from the stands. My grandpa even though a Buckeye loved Tom Harmon and met him and his wife in the 1950s

It's an advertising poster for the 1911 UM Syracuse game featuring my great uncle Fred Conklin. I've got a team picture as well from that year. My prized possessions.

Don't have much memorabilia, so I'm going to say the coolest thing Michigan thing I have is just the memories of the few games I have attended. Hope I'm able to revisit the Big House this fall.

Edit: I am also a big fan of my signed Desmond Howard book I Wore 21.

That plane is owned by Richard Rogel a UM alum who founded PPO of Michigan and then sold it to Blue Cross and Blue Shield in '96.  He's a big UM supporter, as you probably guessed.  He chaired the Michigan Difference fundraising campaign, was President of the Alumni Association and sits on a UM atheltics board along with donating boatloads to UM.

I have heard firsthand that another UM alumni has a private jet with the winged helmet painted on the nose.  Michael Levitt a UM grad (BBA, and JD) who founded Stone Tower Capital (now part of Apollo) hedge fund.  However, I can't seem to find pictures of that.

first suburban, a 3/4 ton '77 4x4.  it was dark blue and i painted the wings on the hood and stripes all the way back to the tail gate when we went to the rose bowl in '86 or '87 (getting long enough that i don't remember exactly).   not nearly as cool as a citation, but it was all i had back in the day.

Kinda silly, but I still have my spats from marching in the 2005 and 2007 Rose Parades/Bowls. No M logos, but I know what they are and that's what matters

The wife bought me one of the lockers for my birthday last year.  The numbers are magnetic and I was told the players switched them from locker to locker when they wanted to but I still think it's cool that my locker is #21.

My cousin is a 2014 WR/DB from Sylvania Southview HS. My brother and I had the good fortune to go on an unofficial visit with him to the Northwestern game last year (his brother is a DB at NW) I got a chance to see some of the recruits, Shane was there sitting with Leon Mcquay, Brian Mone and Ian Bunting were both there with their mothers. Beforehand we got to walk down the tunnel and be on the field during warm-ups. During the game I got to sit 4 rows up on the 50 yard line, easily the best seats I've ever had. Afterwards I got to meet Gorgeous Al, he was happy to talk football with us. I have the lanyard proudly hanging at home.

Between about 1983 and 1985, Bo brought the football team, basketball team, cheerleaders and others to pattengil elementary school to meet the kids and hold a charity auction. I still have my programs for two of those "M Nights" signed by Harbaugh, Bo, etc. I had my picture in the news getting Butch Wade's autograph and Tim McCormick held me up to dunk a basketball.

I have Craig Roh's defensive game plan packet against MSU from 2011. Probably not the best game plan. I also have a football signed by Hoke and a picture of Denard with my little boy.

Oh I have a few things but my favorite has to be my 1998 Rose bowl Program signed by Sir Charles...to be more specific it's signed by him and he inscribed "Sir Charles of Arbor" under it, so that's a win. Also at the open house for Crisler 2 years ago I got a jersey signed by the whole team + Beilein, and obviously they went on to win the B1G sooo yea.

mat (size of a welcome mat) that looks like the football field and was made from the turf of the field. weidenbach gave it to me as a graduation gift in '91. I was the FedEx driver for the athletic department while finishing up at Michigan. Really cool to have a piece of the field!
I also have the photograph of the famous Desmond Howard Heisman pose that is signed to MGoBrewMom personally by Desmond.

I bought a Michigan hat 12 years ago. I've warn it to the point where it used to be Navy and now it is a whitish gray color. I still wear it all the time and it is the only hate that I wear. I make sure to wear it to every Michigan sporting event that I go to. I plan on retiring it one day, but not without the signature of Charles Woodson on it.

A photo of the Big House from Bo with a personal note to the old head football coach at my school thanking him for sending so many great players, and one Heisman winner, to Michigan. My father somehow ended up with it.

A genuine helmet, with nicks and scratches, that I won in the Women's Football Academy three years ago, signed by members of the offensive line (one of whom left the program the day after he signed it), including Taylor Lewan.

From the 100th game, I have an Ohio player's mouthpiece that he threw at us (I can't remember what we said to him) when we went down to the field after beating them. Actually my old roommate might have it.

Also have a Chris Perry autograph somewhere. But he signed his Bengals number.

My brother got some field turf, a "MICHIGAN PLAYERS" sign from Crisler, and a giant Desmond cardboard cutout. All destined to be trashed during the renovation before he swiped it.

I used to work at Nike and have an authentic game jersey #98. this is Tom Harmon's jersey number not available anywhere else, even as a Michigan football player (until it becomes a Michigan legend jersey).
