OT: The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug teaser trailer
I know it is a slow news day, but I figured this would interest most of the MGoFaithful. I mean c'mon, it's The Hobbit!

For those wondering, the elf with Legolas is lady elf Tauriel, played by Evangeline Lilly (Kate from Lost), a Mirkwood Elf warrior, an invention of Peter Jackson & Crew.
We also get our first look at Smaug the dragon. (OMGSMAUG!)
The Desolation of Smaug opens in theaters on December 13, 2013.
Thoughts?
{Edit: Turns out I suck at embedding. Can someone help me out?}
Bombadil was indeed a glaring ommission from FotR. That said, I cannot imagine Goldberry being "pissed" under any cirucmstances no matter how unjust.
Leaving Bombadil out was the best creative decision they made for FotR. It took me years to read the Trilogy because I hated the Bombadil part so much. It really summed up the VERY few, but still existent bad parts of Tolkien's writing to me.
Bombadil is a brilliant (and I mean that in the truest sense of the word) character. I can only agree with the decsion to leave him out of the movie if the reason is that their treatment could not do the character justice.
I recommend you listen to the BBC unabridged reading of the LotR. My appreciation for Bombadil was heightened after hearing this professional reading.
People criticized Bombadil's presense when the books were written. Tolkien even admitted that Bombadil was not essential to the narrative of LOTR but left him in to "show that there were things beyond and unconcerned with domination and control." He is Tolkien's moral ideal.
I'm trying to think of an analogy to Michigan sports but I keep coming back to Denard Robinson.
it would be what, 15 parts?
a billion.
It would be a pretty depressing movie, with all the betrayal, death, and collapse of the Noldor kingdoms of Beleriand, and honestly would probably take an army of screenwriters to create the dialogue.
Would love to see it, though!
I actually liked Bombadil, especially after reading "The Silmarillion" and the oblique references to the kingdom of Arnor.
If the heirs of Tolkein, New Line, and Peter Jackson want to continue to milk the series, I wonder which way they would go:
Back to the founding of Gondor and Arnor up to Last Alliance? Way back to the rise and fall of Numenor? Or way way way back to the coming of the Noldor to Middle Earth and the fate of the Silmaril?
Yes a huge dork. I'll admit.
Going to have to wait a while. Christopher Tolkien(Son of JRRT) absolutely hates the movies and did everything he could to slow The Hobbit. He still has the rights to the Similarion and has no interest in selling them.
Thanks for the Doom of Mandos, pal.
That is one big dragon. Holy Toledo.
He is quite large, but nothing you can't handle on your own, Mr. Norris.
I'd bet a Google search for "Lord of the Rings porn" would bring some results right up your alley, get to work.
I almost never go to the movies. The last movie I saw was An Unexpected Journey, and before that it's been a long time. This may be the next.
Has seen the movie yet
I just watched "An Unexpected Journey" last night!
